  1. Review titled 95 year old waiting for hours in wheelchair

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Jennifer Creaghan - Posted on 09 November 2022

I followed an ambulance from my mother’s care home around lunchtime on Tuesday 8th November. She has Alzheimer’s is 95 and very frail. I stayed with her to reassure her, be a comfort to her and explain what was happening. The staff were very good and caring. After blood tests and an X-ray she was deemed fit to be discharged and I was told she would be taken back to the care home by ambulance. This seemed very necessary as she had even struggled to sit up to be dressed, was unable to walk and I didn’t think it safe for me to take her in my car, especially as it was dark and raining and I am unfamiliar with the area. I left just after 5pm after she had been transferred to a wheelchair. She had only had one biscuit to eat since her breakfast but I knew that the care home staff would look after her. Imagine my distress the following day when I visited her to find that she had arrived back at the care home at 2.30 in the morning. She must have been sitting in a wheelchair for 9 hours. She is 95, with back problems and always wants to be lying down. If I had been told it was likely to be hours, I would have got staff to help her into my car and would have managed somehow rather than let her suffer like that.

Thank you for taking the time to raise your concern following the care and treatment your mother received whilst a patient in the Emergency Department. I am very sorry to hear that your mother had to wait for such a long time to be taken back to her care home and that she had to sit in a wheelchair and not in a more comfortable position. I hope to reassure you that this is not the standard of care we hope for and work towards. To enable the Trust to investigate this further, can you please contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 01246 5126410 or alternatively crhft.acs@nhs.net and they will be able to liaise with the Emergency Department and provide you with a response. The procedure was carried out in a very organised and professional manner by the nurse endoscopist and her staff and at all times during the procedure with concern for the patient the team were in my opinion superb.

  4. Review titled Fantastic care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 30 November 2022

I attended A&E for a bleed in early pregnancy, and the team could not possibly have been any more sympathetic, understanding, professional and caring. I was very surprised at how quickly I was seen. The reception team were compassionate and discreet, the health care assistants and nurse went above and beyond to make sure I felt as comfortable as possible, and I was reassured and kept informed every step of the way. I saw a very caring and professional gynaecologist, and was referred for an urgent scan later that afternoon (it was past midnight when I was seen). This was the best experience I have ever had of using an A&E department, I was so much calmer and felt reassured after leaving, and I felt every single member of staff I saw genuinely cared about me - despite the pressures they were under and how busy the department was. Thank you, Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

  5. Review titled Pain clinic appointment

    by Bic1995 - Posted on 11 November 2022

I cannot sit or stand still for very long due to severe pain, hence attending the pain clinic. Left waiting almost 2 hours, only to be told I had been missed because my file wasn’t put in a box. No staff wearing masks and no infection control.

  6. Review titled Exceptional Care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Julie C - Posted on 20 November 2022

I attended for surgery on the 1st Nov initially, a lovely female junior doctor assessed my lump and said it would be best removed under GA. (This was an unnecessary surgery due to GP's did not see me soon enough, through 'it's phone appointments diagnosis') I came back on the 2nd Nov on the surgical assessment unit. I was put at ease, everyone was friendly, things explained well. Even though I hate general anesthetic the surgical team put me at ease. Surgery couldn't have gone better, I remained on the SAU after, had a lovely meal also (Bonus) To all on the Surgical Assessment Unit, Exceptional Care, Be Proud :) Thank You

  7. Review titled Great first appointment, but need better signage

    by mols555 - Posted on 25 November 2022

I took my daughter to her first CAMHS assessment in The Den, and once we were there the staff were lovely and greeted us with a warm welcome and the initial appointment went very well. We both had opportunities to talk on our own to the staff member and was given clear advice on what would happen next. My only feedback is that on trying to locate The Den we struggled to find it, a kind staff member saw us looking confused and showed us a short cut through a fire door. We found The Den but then the receptionist said we were in the wrong place, we need to go upstairs. I feel like some extra signage would have helped us. On leaving the appointment, we didn't know how to get back to the front of the hospital, so ended up having to walk around the whole hospital to get back to the front car park, which took about 20 mins. Some signs to direct us back through the hospital to main entrance would have been super helpful.

  8. Review titled Visiting A&E two times following arm fractures.

    by Acceptablelife810 - Posted on 02 December 2022

I visited Chesterfield Hospital with my daughter. She initially broke her arm in July, this was a simple fracture, and we had a 5-hour wait in A&E to have a back slab. We were seen almost immediately by triage nurses and they administered pain medication, so the wait was manageable. We were seen a week later in the fracture clinic, where my daughter was put in Pop. 4 weeks later, this was removed and she soon re-broke her arm in splint, this time more severely. We attended A&E and they immediately identified and escalated this, we saw a nurse for observations, pain killers and initial management. This nurse put us at ease, was kind, compassionate and generally a joy. I wish I knew his name, he was able to establish a relationship with us both immediately and told us the next steps. Following seeing him, we were taken to a room in ED. They monitored and managed my daughter's pain, and later reset her arm with further monitoring by orthopaedics and pediatric nurses. It felt like it all happened very quickly, and they were fantastic throughout, explained everything thoroughly and managed me as much as they managed my daughter. I felt we were given options and they even explained when they were changing shift. What was a horrible experience as a mum, seeing your child in pain and scared and not being able to do anything, was eased by all the staff at Chesterfield A&E, Orthopaedics and Paediatrics. I cannot compliment them enough, even the cleaners who stopped for a much needed chat and to offer a cup of tea, they all individually made a positive impact on our visit. I will never forget how wonderful they are and this shows how efficiently they run their services to make sure they can see those who need seeing as soon as practical. A wonderful team in a wonderful hospital.

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Cardio patient - Posted on 14 September 2022

Told at 9.30am that I would be discharged shortly, just need meds and discharge letter. Chased up at 2pm, "I'll check" . Chased again at 4pm, "I'll check". Chased at 6pm "if we get you a prescription to take to a pharmacy is that okay"? I just want to go home, yes I'll pay for it and collect it on way home!! 7pm will it be much longer? "just getting it now". If I didn't have a heart condition before I do after this experience!!!
