  1. Review titled Faultless, compassionate, responsive service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 20 January 2023

I had an ultrasound appointment here today. I am autistic and therefore contacted the department with details of reasonable adjustments required for my appointment. Their communication to me prior to the appointment was exemplary and on the day i received a first class, empathetic service with all adjustments provided as requested. The staff all seemed to work together to provide them and it made me feel comfortable and confident in their hands. The lady doing the ultrasound was very helpful, informative, reassuring and guided me through the process effortlessly which was very much appreciated. Today was a prime example of the levels of service that one can receive when the NHS works as it should. Which as most of know, isn't all of the time to say the least. Thankyou to CRH.

  3. Review titled Could not fault

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Alice - Posted on 12 January 2023

Was referred to the Barnes Ward/same day emergency care unit for tests to rule out a pulmonary embolism. I was on my own, in pain and anxious about being there given all the negative press recently. I could not fault them. The staff on the unit were smiley, friendly and could not do enough for you. I was kept updated as to approximate wait times and what would be happening next in relation to tests and treatment. I was put completely at ease. I don't think I'm allowed to mention names on here but is there any wau i can thank the certain staff involved directly? Thank you to them all, it made a long painful day a little better just having a friendly face greet you.

  6. Review titled Great team

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Spent a very busy Monday in a&e (total of 7 hours) with my adult son, although very busy, over worked and obviously understaffed the team treated my son with patience and compassion. They put both myself and my autistic son at ease, dealt with every aspect of care including time to answer a lot of questions and conversation by my son, doctors, nurses and other staff are so under appreciated and don't get the recognition they deserve under enormous pressure....thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you do

  7. Review titled Wonderful team

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 12 December 2022

I had to attend AE with my dad yesterday with acute abdominal/ chest pain.I was worried how stressful the experience could be. I am a GP and I am aware the pressure the hospital staff are under. I was amazed how kind all the staff were in the hospital from reception, to the cleaners, porters and clinical staff. The department was incredibly busy and patients were in the corridors at points. The staff were kind, considerate and calm. Staff were trying their best under busy circumstances. Its the small things that count when your loved one is ill...being offered a chair, a tea and people saying hello. I was tired, lost and upset at one point and a porter was so friendly and kind. People used my dad's name and he felt like he was being treated as a person and not a number. I worked in Chesterfield hospital years ago and for me it's never lost its kind, personalised and caring approach. I've never been to AE and this year I've been 3 times. I've been incredibly impressed and proud that this is our local service.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience - as you will have seen, the Emergency Department remains under significant pressure. To hear that you and your Dad received a kind, personal and caring approach is so very important, that you have described this from all staff groups even more so. We will pass on your kind words to the teams and wish your Dad all the very best in his recovery. With best wishes Sarah Ward Deputy Chief Nurse

  9. Review titled Exceptional Care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Julie C - Posted on 16 November 2022

I attended for surgery on the 1st Nov initially, a lovely female junior doctor assessed my lump and said it would be best removed under GA. (This was an unnecessary surgery due to GP's did not see me soon enough, through 'it's phone appointments diagnosis') I came back on the 2nd Nov on the surgical assessment unit. I was put at ease, everyone was friendly, things explained well. Even though I hate general anesthetic the surgical team put me at ease. Surgery couldn't have gone better, I remained on the SAU after, had a lovely meal also (Bonus) To all on the Surgical Assessment Unit, Exceptional Care, Be Proud :) Thank You Jules

  10. Review titled A&E waste of 7hrs

    by Dissapointed11 - Posted on 23 November 2022

At 11:00pm I was referred to A&E via out of hours GP with a letter explaining his request for me to attend A&E. The triage nurse was fantastic. I then went into a cubicle, if you can call it that, with 2 chairs, and that was a squeeze. The nurse gave me IV paracetamol for my severe abdominal pain, took 10mins max to administer. After 2hrs I was still attached to the empty IV, no one came to check or advise what’s happening. I had to shout for the nurse to remove IV, asked for stronger pain relief as the pain was still intense. Advised they can’t give stronger pain relief until I’d seen a doctor. At 1:00 am I asked when doctor will see me, nurse said I’m next to be seen. By 4:30am, still no doctor, no pain relief, no communication from staff. I requested a doctor as my pain was intolerable. The doctor arrived 15 mins later. After being examined the doctor gave me morphine for pain, and referred to another doctor. At 5:30am another doctor examined me, who explained there are no beds for me to be admitted. The advised I should be given pain relief and referred to outpatients. The pain relief options offered were ones which obviously hasn’t worked for the last 3 days! I was offered a stronger pain killer which I explained I was allergic to, as detailed in my notes. I was then questioned whether I was sure I had an allergy, and what reactions did I have (facial swelling). Eventually, after going in circles, the doctor prescribed me the stronger pain killer and advised me to take antihistamines alongside them, and if I have a reaction, come back to A&E. I was discharged at 6:40am with a painkiller I have a reaction to, still in pain and no answers! What a waste of 7 hrs..
