Review titled Great practitioner!
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by jayde bassett - Posted on 24 May 2024
Although I still think it’s crazy you can’t book an appointment in advance, as a mum of a toddler that works. This is very difficult! But today I was lucky, I got through at 8:10am and was booked in the surgery for 8:30. It was my first time seeing this practitioner , and the experience was great! I felt heard, he was sympathetic and seemed genuinely interested in the problem I was having. He carried out my referral in the room and told me I can contact the surgery if anything changes and he will help as much as he can. I can’t thank him enough, best experience in a long time. Thank you

Dear Jayde Thank you for taking the time to leave such a lovely review. We appreciate your comments about the difficulty obtaining an appointment. At the moment, demand is simply outweighing capacity, however we are working hard to try and improve this. From your comments, it appears that you had a really positive experience with the practitioner, and the feedback will be shared with them. Here at Yarm, we so strive ourselves on providing the best patient care that we possibly can - and it appears you have received this level. Again, your lovely words are very much appreciated. Kind regards Yarm Medical Practice

After waiting on the phone for 45 minutes I was told no appointments left call back again at 8am tomorrow. Having felt poorly for several days , not getting any better and being over 75 I contact NHS 111. Saw a Doctor later that day, was told I had a bad chest infection and was given treatment.

Good morning Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. I am sorry to hear about your recent experience with the Practice. I would expect my reception team to ask for further details regarding your symptoms before simply saying "there are no appointments". I would appreciate it, if you could make contact with the Practice so I can obtain further details, in order to allow me to listen to the telephone call and identify if there are any training needs. I look forward to hearing from you. Kind regards Yarm Medical Practice

Review titled No appointments
Rated 1 star out of 5
by R ashdown - Posted on 04 May 2023
Unable to get an appointment. Having felt very ill, I have queued outside in the cold for 40 minutes this morning. By the time I was seen, the appointments had ran out and they told me I would have to come back at 8am tomorrow to queue in the hope of getting an appointment. Not sure how they can tell everyone to queue at 8am when they know there's only a limited number of appointment available. The practice seems extremely disorganised and unable to priorities their workload. I would suggest that better time management and an empathetic approach to patient care would greatly improve efficiency. Lots of pen pushers how take great pleasure in doing their jobs to a minimum

Dear patient Thank you for taking your time to provide feedback on your experience with the Practice. I am sorry that you have not had a satisfactory experience with the Practice. You are correct, we do have a limited number of appointments available each day as we have to ensure the clinicians are working at a safe capacity. At this moment in time, demand is significantly outweighing capacity. Having said this, we are providing more appointments than pre-pandemic, and we always have a GP available for urgent patients who are needing urgent help that day. I would expect my receptionists to obtain some information about your symptoms so that they can determine if your problem is clinically urgent. If this has not happened then I do apologise and I will ensure that this is re-iterated to all staff. Kind regards Yarm Medical Practice

Review titled E consult.
Rated 4 stars out of 5

I am disappointed that the practice has declined to accept e consult sometimes and asks you to try the next day. It is useful when you can’t get an appointment but needs to be available all the time as it was in the past. Poor service when this happens.

Dear patient Thank you for taking your time to provide feedback to the Practice. Unfortunately, due to the increasing numbers of eConsults being received in Practice, we have needed to limit the number received each day. We were receiving in excess to 100-150 per week, which was becoming unsafe numbers. To ensure the safety of both our staff and our patients, we have had to make the difficult decision to limit the number of contacts via eConsult. Whilst we fully understand the frustration at not being able to submit an eConsult, the Practice is open between 8:00am and 6:00pm for telephone calls or face to face contact at reception. We hope you can understand our decision. Kind regards Yarm Medical Practice

Review titled Great practice, however
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 07 December 2022
The medical person was very professional and efficient, he carried out a thorough examination and explained everything. The only problem with this practice is getting an appointment, having to queue before 0800 in all weather is very poor, also it is very difficult to get an appointment over the phone.

Dear patient Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback, and highlighting your areas of concern. We are working extremely hard to make accessing the Practice easier for our patients. Unfortunately, the huge increase in demand for an appointment alongside the national recruitment problems general practice are facing both clinically and administratively, this is proving more difficult than we would like. We are regularly receiving in excess of 200 phone calls between 8am and 9am each day. Due to this number of phone calls, patients are feeling the need to attend the Surgery prior to the opening time to book an appointment. We release appointments at regular intervals throughout the week to try and counteract the need to wait outside in all weathers. We are actively recruiting additional clinicians, and hope to providing additional appointments very soon. Again, thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback, and I am happy to hear the medical professional you have dealt with has provided an excellent service. Kind regards Yarm Medical Practice

Review titled Appalling lack of service
Rated 1 star out of 5

I have been trying for 2 weeks to actually speak with someone about x-rays I was sent for. Without fail the call queue has been full and the phone just put down on the 1 occasion I actually managed to get a call back my phone didn't even ring, a missed call from the practice number just popped up on my missed call list. I was sent for the x-rays after some pretty severe symptoms, I eventually got some blood tests for thyroid and diabetes and was told to expect a call with the results, I got a text saying my vit D was slightly low, not enough to cause symptoms and that was it, nothing about my thyroid or diabetes results at all! When I finally got through they had expected me to just accept the text that didn't relate to my tests or my symptoms as an answer to my problems! I had to push to get another appointment to actually address my problem and was sent for x-rays and here I am unable to get any results or advice or even a callback!? My son is due his 4 month vaccinations, we were told when he needed them, they're standard and could be booked in whenever, they refused to book him in when they gave us this information and we have to ring to make this appointment, which as I have explained is literally impossible due to the truly horrible service this practice provides, the system does not work, patients are made to feel like a nuisance and that they are doing something wrong when trying to make appointments and it seems the receptionists will do anything possible to prevent people from receiving medical care

Dear patient, Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. I am sorry to hear you feel the level of care you have been provided by Yarm Medical Practice is not up to standard. We have currently been communicating with our telephone company to ensure there are no faults with the system. However, with 16000 patients, it is likely that our call queue can be full due to the high demand we are experiencing from patients. With regards to obtaining your results, you are able to sign up to the NHS app, which will allow you to view your own results once they have been reviewed and filed by the clinician. This is a quick and easy method to obtain results, without the need of a telephone call into the Practice. As you have posted anonymously, I am unable to look into the incident regarding your son's childhood immunisations. Please email the Practice, addressed to the Practice Manager, on nencicb-tv.a81027@nhs.net with further details on the incident and contact details for yourself, and this will be looked into further. Our rotas generally go 4 weeks ahead, so I would be interested to learn why you have been unable to book an appointment. I would like to assure you, that our receptionists are working very hard in dealing with the increasing demand put on them. They work in line with protocols set by clinicians when dealing with patients. However, if there is a training need required, I would be more than happy to listen to the telephone call to identify and address this once I have further details. The Practice is working extremely hard in recruiting additional clinical and admin staff, to increase appointments and reduce waiting times as the Practice. Unfortunately, due to the national recruitment shortage, this is proving more difficult than we would have liked. I appreciate the frustrations you have faced, however please be assured we are working to improve necessary areas. Kind regards Yarm Medical Practice.
