Review titled shocking patient treatment
Rated 1 star out of 5

I rang up at 8am on a morning, I had to ring 34 times before i got through to someone who told me even though i was in agony, could barely walk and couldn't sleep due to the pain there was no appointments left and would need to go to the hospital urgent care and wait there. They then went on to book me an appointment for the next day out of hours surgery at a different practice. Once off the phone I rang 111 as the pain was getting worse, 111 then told me to ring my GP practice back and speak to them to try and get me in today. When I got back through, they said the on-call doctor would look at my notes and would ring me back, instead I got a text message to say I'm not urgent even though I can't sleep and am in agony walking to which I had already cancelled the out of hours appointment as I stupidly thought the doctors would be able to help!! I will now have to ring up next week even though I work Monday- Friday from 8-6. Absolutely shocking treatment when a patient is in pain!

Dear patient, Thank you for your feedback. The Practice has recently upgraded our telephone system, giving patients the option of a “call back” - if this option is not available, I am more than happy to address this with the telephone company for further investigation. My receptionists are working extremely hard to meet the medical needs of our patients. We have received and answered close to 2000 incoming telephone calls this week alone. Once all pre-bookable appointments have been allocated, we have a duty clinician to deal with medical emergencies. As you state you were “in agony”, I would have expected my reception team to obtain further information from you to ensure they are signposting you accordingly. As all telephone calls are recorded, I welcome you to provide your details to the Practice so that your phone call can be located and reviewed to determine if there are any training needs identified for my team. As your were offered and accepted an appointment for tomorrow, subsequently contacted NHS111 and then re-contacted the Practice, the receptionist will have then signposted you to the duty clinician. The duty clinician will have been able to review all points of contact with clinical professionals along with your NHS 111 report and the symptoms you have described, and deemed your symptoms as not medically urgent for today. As the Practice is not made aware when patients cancel their appointments in the Enhanced Access hub, this clinician is likely to have deemed your pre-arranged appointment for tomorrow as suitable, unaware you had cancelled this. Please could I just make you aware of the eConsult facility that allows you to request for clinical advice direct to the Practice. This can be located on the Practice website, under “appointments”. Also, the Enhanced Access appointments, which will be held at a local practice between the hours of 6:30pm - 9:00pm Monday to Friday and 9:00am - 5:00pm Saturday and Sunday offer additional availability for our patients and for workers. As this is an anonymous post, and you have raised multiple issues, I would like to ask you to send your issues direct to nencicb-tv.a81027@nhs.net and address to the Practice Manager, who will investigate this further. I look forward to your email. Thank you.

Having had a few concerns which I related to at my annual review, these were addressed within 24 hrs with an examination and a separate blood test all of the results relaid back to me before the end of the day. Great professional service.
