  2. Review titled Appointments at reception and getting to see someone

    by Mr W - Posted on 03 September 2024

I hope management at Tower Hill actually reads this as i'm concerned there are serious issues at the practice. Your staff will know who i am and can confirm the following is factually correct (visited 30/08/2024 -17.30). I arrived at your reception to see somebody or at least get an appointment for the next day . I had an infection and explained this (in more detail) to the receptionist ( which i shouldn't need to do ) . I was told i need to book online or phone in the morning . I said , i am here now so i need you to get someone to see me or make me an appointment now.... " We can't do that , you have to do it online or by phone" . I asked if i did that how long would it be before i got an appointment "48 hours" . So i would not have been seen until the next week . I then pointed out they have a large banner explaining the dangers of sepsis and to seek advice and that i had gone there because as previously said i had an infection that was clearly getting worse - what could happen if i don't get seen until next week ? She then actually asked me if i had seen anybody ? No , but i think it would have been good to see doctor - which is why i was there ! Eventually after having to debate with her she got the nurse to see me . The nurse immediately said i needed antibiotics and came back with a doctor and straight away agreed i had a problem and was told to go straight to A&E , both the nurse and doctor were very good . The doctor at the hospital also said i was right to go in and yes i needed treatment so i wasn't at the practice wasting anybodies time ! So clearly i needed to see someone and the receptionist shouldn't have insisted i go away and make an appointment knowing it would be a few days before i would be seen - which after reading other reviews , i now find you struggle to make these online appointments due to the window and actual appointments available , and of course we all know how difficult it is to make an appointment by phone . When would i have been seen if i didn't insist to the receptionist ? Now i am not blaming the receptionist at all for this . It is obviously Tower Hill's guidelines she is working within . How can it be right that someone is there at reception and not actually make an appointment in person ? The consequences of this - not being seen for something that someone has specifically gone in for because they were concerned they could get a lot worse are unimaginable (actually they are ) . How often does this happen at the practice ? The way the practice operates is clearly not suitable the appointment system needs a complete overhall and yes if someone is at the practice they should be able to make an appointment there and then , because as said , putting people off has consequences , i am sure a doctor should be able to appreciate that . I do hope this is read by management and would like to think you sort these concerns.

Dear Mr W, thank you for your feedback. I do need more information to enable me to investigate this incident as 30.8.24 was Friday and we were not open on Saturday. I am also unable to identify the staff concerned without the correct details. Please do not hesitate to contact me on 0121 411 0487 to discuss further. If our systems are failing, we need to know so that we can improve. Thank you Debbie Wykes, Patient Experience Manager

  3. Review titled Follow up to - Appointments at reception

Rated 1 star out of 5

    by Mr W - Posted on 04 September 2024

With regards to my previous review , i did make one error , the date i actually visited was 28/08/2024 Wednesday . Which is why if i couldn't get an appointment until 48 hours later , i would not have seen anybody until the following week . If i had just walked away after being told i had to make an appointment online or phone the next day how much worse would my situation have become ? I had to really push the receptionist to get some action , how often does this happen ? I'm sure it isn't good for either your staff or patients . My concern here is not for myself . I went to hospital and they helped me , but for other people that are told to go away to make an appointment , i have spoken to neighbours since this and it appears this is now the standard practice.

  4. Review titled Triaged incorrectly

Rated 1 star out of 5

by radhwan hoque - Posted on 07 August 2024

I recently called regarding a bad rash on my body however when asked for a appointment with a GP or Nurse the GP had triaged my appointment to the pharmacy for advise. I ended up in A&E and required steroid doses and antibiotics and antivirals as it turned out to be more than a Rash. My issue lies within why i was now asked to send in pictures via accrux and why the decision was made to refer me to the local pharmacy when they will not prescribe any medication without a specialist writing a prescription. Also for the past few days I have been requesting for my NHS app to be linked to the GP surgery so I can access my health records and I have been given miss information from reception can you please advise.

  6. Review titled Helpful & Courteous

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Bertram - Posted on 26 April 2024

Phoning a Doctor, Hospital or otherwise to discuss medical issues and be stressful for the patient. What I received from Tower Hill Surgery was professional understanding, thoughtfulness with a helping and courteous approach. That made me calm and at the same time made my day I cannot recall the name of the receptionist but I leave with a thank you. Excellent!

  7. Review titled Great Practice!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Julia - Posted on 12 March 2024

I visited an emergency GP yesterday and was thoroughly impressed by the experience. The GP was absolutely amazing and highly knowledgeable, taking the time to explain many issues in detail. I was prescribed medication and even underwent further tests in the practice on the same day, assisted by a lovely nurse. I am truly grateful for the exceptional care provided. Thank you so much.

  8. Review titled Just go to the hospital

by Maxine Morgan - Posted on 18 March 2024

I have been number 8 in the queue on the telephone for almost an hour until I gave up after being told that i need to contact my moms GP and get her seen or spoken to by them, by the other services i contacted who are involved with her care. My mother is 67 and goes up and down in regards to her health. I need the services to work together so mom can get back on her feet but someone is always missing and the GP has been AWOL virtually since November. I've managed to get them to call me back once or twice over the phone but there is no consistency and its not like im calling every week. You cant get an appointment, or an online triage appointment its like the lottery and they don't come out to see you, my mom, who is housebound and physically cannot get to the GP, is still waiting for a GP to see her at home since September 2022. You can't call, you cannot or are prevented from making a complaint via the website because the system kicks you out, hence why I've had to tick 'yes' to having a good experience and have been redirected to here. Select 'no' and you are kicked out. Trying to communicate is a roadblock. I have more success with the attached pharmacy than I have with the GP. Absolutely terrible. People are dying with the services being changed to this, minimal/zero access method. So if you can, either try your luck with a walk in or just pack refreshments and do he 4-6 hour wait at A&E.

Dear Ms Morgan, thank you for providing feedback. I apologise for the poor experience you have had when trying to make an appointment for your mom. Over the last year we have changed the way that patient's can make an appointment and the wait on our phone lines has greatly improved. This is due to more patients filling out our online form, if they are able and alleviating the number of calls. If you would like to call me to discuss these issues, I would happily look into this. 9. Review titled Poor service

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Mr Khan - Posted on 14 March 2024

I tried to book a appointment over the phone but was told that I need to book this online, so I tried to book the appointment online over a weekend but was unable to so I tried to contact the surgery the following Monday and after 25 mins on hold finally got through and explained to the receptionist that I would like to make a appointment to see a doctorand I have tried to book a appointment online over the weekend to be told that the service is only available on weekdays not weekends. I explained that it would be difficult to do within the week due to work commitments Finally the receptionist agreed to book the appointment for me online and said that I would receive a call within 48 hrs I also received a message confirming this. 3 days later still no phone call so I called the surgery again to see what the delay was and was told that the doctor will call you when there free. Two weeks later received a call and the doctor asked what the issue was to which I asked if he had any notes, he said yes but rather hear it from myself, I explained the issues I was having and was told that I need to book a blood test and that he has got the paperwork ready and gave me a phone number to call. I have tried to call the number over two days and was on hold / waiting for someone to answer for over 45 mins so I decided to call the surgery back and explain the issue and I need to get the test done quite quickly so the receptionist gave me a booking for two weeks time. I think the service that I have received is appalling having to wait to speak to a doctor, having serious issues and then having to wait again for nearly two weeks for a blood test. I try to avoid visiting the doctors unless there is a issue and there is but its like no one cares anymore I think the service I have received has been way below my expectations and feel very let down by the medical practise

Dear Mr Khan, thank you for your feedback. I apologise for your poor experience and would like to assure you that we do take these matters seriously. Our online form is only open Monday to Friday as these are the surgery opening hours. Once the form is completed, it does state that it can take up to 48 hours for someone to contact you. Which is why we do say, if it is urgent, you call the surgery at 8 am Monday to Friday. If you would like to call me to discuss this, I will investigate what has happened in this instance. 10. Review titled Terrible experience

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 08 February 2024

I range the day before to book in for a blood test and was told i am booked in for the following day at 9:45. I even received a text message to confirm this! So i cancelled 2 meetings at work, 1 of which is with important clients because health comes first. I went in the cold and wet weather to the medical practice to be told you don’t have an appointment today its next week. I was made to feel it was my own fault for coming on the wrong day. When i showed my text the receptionist said my colleague sent it in error. No apology or anything. I think this is disgusting i have taken time out to come and changed meetings just to be told its the wrong date. They made a mistake but were very washy about it. I just walked away from the situation in the end. I question if next week my appointment will be the real thing or will i be told again its the wrong day!
