Review titled Efficient

The downside is I had to go to the practice in person to get an appointment. The online booking system showed the earliest telephone appointment was in 12 days. However I got an actual appointment within 30 minutes and had a very efficient interview with a clear and comprehensive outcome.

We are happy we could help. We do have urgent on the day appointments available in person or on the telephone but all pre-bookable routine appointments are available on-line or by telephone. Urgent on-the-day released at 8:30am & Routine pre-bookable released everyday at 10am for booking online or on the phone. If you have an urgent problem advice is always available.

After struggling to secure an appointment for some time, I managed today to book a face-to-face for the same afternoon! A massive improvement compared to my experience last year. The doctor I saw listened to me and gave me all the information I needed to take the next steps. He was extremely supportive and informative.

Review titled Not Helpful

My mum phoned 111 because she had chest pain and was struggling to breath. The medical advisors at 111 told mum to phone Leckhampton Surgery and get an X-ray as soon as possible. Mum phoned Leckhampton Surgery in the morning but Leckhampton didn't seem to think it was serious and said they couldn't give her an appointment for 2 weeks. As we received no help from Leckhampton we took mum to A & E where she was told she had suffered heart failure, she was admitted to hospital straight away and had to have heart surgery. If we had listened to Leckhampton Surgery my mum might not be be alive today. If you want any help you are better off phoning Dial - A Pizza rather than Leckhampton Surgery as sadly they are inefficient and totally useless. I am posting this review for the second time because the first time I left this review it was taken down and nobody responded.

Dear Patient Thank you for taking the time to feedback. We are sorry you felt we did not respond appropriately the first time but can assure you we did send a to response to the moderators. Our Primary Care advisors will always inform a patient who phones up with Chest Pains to go straight to A&E. We are unsure why 111 advised you to come to the GP surgery for a Urgent x-ray. Any referral sent would not have reached the hospital immediately even if sent same day. We in Primary care are not an Emergency service. Chest pains are felt an emergency and we do not have the facility to perform x-rays on site. If 111 had thought you needed an Urgent appointment there are appointments reserved for the sole use of 111 and they also phone us to discuss patients. We apologise for any confusion. Kind Regards Leckhampton Surgery

Review titled Unacceptably long waiting times for GP appointment.
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Dave Alan Shelmerdine - Posted on 11 October 2023
It seems to be standard practice now that we have to wait several weeks for any GP appointment - and sometimes the booking system has had no availability at all, making it completely impossible to book any appointment.

Dear Mr Shelmerdine We do apologise that you are having difficulties booking an appointment. We do have a new GP started in August to improve our capacity. Our services are very much in demand at the moment as everyone returns from their summer break. We have also recently started the Flu and Covid vaccination winter programme which does mean that some of our clinicians are busy with the vaccination clinics. You are welcome to book with any of our GPs and we do offer Telephone and Face to face appointments. It is often easier if you avoid choosing a specific GP. You can also speak to a pharmacist or contact 111 for minor ailments. If 111 feel you need an appointment sooner they have access to directly book appointments into our system. Once again we can only apologise and assure you we are doing our best under very challenging circumstances given the hospital Doctor and consultant strikes and coping with the back log of patients. Kind regards Leckhampton Surgery

What has happened to leckhampton phone lines there is a message saying there is some type of outrage I would of thought a doctor surgery would be on a high priority list to get it fixed.I am feeling so unwell and really I have tried calling numerous times .when the phone line are working it can be hours before getting through

Good Morning Patient I totally agree. A GP Surgery should have high priority for repairs! IT and our phone company tried all day yesterday then had to call in BT Openreach, as they could not repair fault. BT Openreach sent us a text yesterday saying they will be with us between 8am & 1pm today Thursday. We apologise but can assure you and all our patients that we are trying our best. We are open if you would like to come into reception. Our GPs are using their personal mobile phones to keep calls pre-booked by our patients and 111 are sending us any urgent patients to call that need immediate treatment. Our surgery is operating as normal and seeing all booked appointments. As usual all our GP appointments are available to book online or through the NHS app. Please bear with us at this difficult time. Thank you to all our patients for your understanding. You can contact the Pharmacy or 111 for advise. A&E & Urgent care centres are there for absolute Emergencies. Kind Reagrds Leckhampton Surgery

Review titled Hostile environment
Rated 1 star out of 5

I find the Leckhampton Surgery to be a hostile environment since the pandemic. I find the constant text messages extremely offensive to receive. The surgery seems to view its patients with contempt, as an inconvenience. We receive repeated text messages asking us not to contact them and telling us how stretched they are. Personally, I have stayed away since Covid and many of my friends and family have felt driven to seek a private GP service, feeling so unwelcome at this surgery. Constantly they tell us they are too busy to see patients. Yet on the rare occasions when I have been there recently, e.g. for routine screenings, the place is empty. I have been the only person in the waiting room. This does not add up! They say they are too busy yet there are never any patients there. Please stop sending these text messages. I have no idea whether that lengthy phone message from one of the GPs is still there (because I have stopped phoning) but I have found this insulting. I think this GP surgery needs to remember that it is supposed to be there to provide a service to patients and not the other way around .

Dear patient We are very sorry you feel this way. The Text messages were sent out to try to keep all patients informed. We are aware that newsletters often go unread and most patients only look at the website when they need to. They were never intended to offend anyone but inform patients. We are sorry that you feel an empty waiting room means we are not working hard. Our clinicians try to keep to time with face to face surgeries and all patients are now given the choice of a Telephone call or face to face where appropriate. An empty waiting room is not an indication of how many patients we attend to in a day. We report weekly, with all of Cheltenham, how many contacts with patients we have every Monday. Last Monday alone our clinicians dealt with 269 patients. Once again we apologise for any offence Kind Regards Leckhampton Surgery

Review titled Urgent changes are required!

This feedback is not about knowledge, experience and care of medical practitioners but about admin system. It is impossible task to book an appointment at surgery, especially when it comes to people with spacial needs. It feels as booking a ticket for concert with spending hours on the surgery website, refreshing pages and trying to book an appointment with very slim chance to succeed. It is a Heath Care Service after all! This way of practice is inadequate and not safe! Everybody is aware there are issues with NHS system and appreciates it, however it should not include ignorance.

We have been listening to patient feedback. From the end of August urgent appointments can be booked from 8:30am on the phone or in person. The Routine online appointments will be available daily from 10am. We hope this will help with making a slightly fairer system. As you have mentioned our services are in great demand at the moment. Please remember that you can always contact 111 for advice and the Pharmacies are now commissioned to give minor illness advice also. Kind Regards Leckhampton surgery

The GP service leaves you feeling abandoned and helpless. After a stay in hospital the consultant said to keep in touch with GP and for any sick notes. The receptionist was great and understanding. The GP was blunt to the point of being frightening when i was feeling really unwell and Ieft me worried about having to speak to him again. He sent a link which told me post op consultancy was the responsibility of the hospital not the GP service. I have no follow up referral to consultant and now the GP doesn't want to help me either.

Dear Patient We do apologise that you seem to be caught in the middle of this. Indeed it is the responsibility of the hospital to supply any sick notes following procedures. They have all the details and should supply the initial 'for for work' notes based on the procedures they have carried out and there is often a delay in GP surgeries receiving discharge papers that will be needed. As they have carried out the procedure they will be aware of the healing time for individual patients. We are sorry you found us blunt but thank you for your kind words with regards our Reception team. Once again our apologies for you as a patient being caught in the middle. Kind Regards Leckhampton Surgery

It's now become impossible to actually see a doctor face to face. Unfortunately I work with dangerous power tools and can't stay up until the early hours to book my appointment as the receptionist adviced.

We are very sorry you have had difficulty getting a face to face appointment. Appointments are released online and for phone booking daily to be booked 5 and 7 days in advance. We are looking at the times that appointments are released and this may change. Currently there is a default for appointments to release online. You can always contact 111 for advise on any medical issue. 111 also have appointments they can directly book for patients, if after triage, they think the patient needs to be seen by a health care professional. The local pharmacies are also now commissioned to deal with minor illness & injuries. If you do not select a particular clinicians this also helps with wider availability. Once again we apologise for your difficulties. The whole of primary care is experiencing a very high demand at the moment as is the whole NHS. Leckhampton Surgery
