  1. Review titled Disappointing Care

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 28 November 2023

I am really disappointed with the care and concern of this doctor's surgery. I have been registered here since I was a child and as my whole family is also registered here, I have therefore decided to stay because it is simply easier. However, it is persistently extremely difficult to get the appropriate care or concern from this practice. As a young, female adult, I feel as though my symptoms are consistently dismissed and ignored, I am often refused appointments and even when I ring at 8am I am told my symptoms are not 'bad enough' to be urgently seen to. I am told not to go to A&E because I would be wasting their time, I am told I am too young to be reviewed by specialists because I am 'not at risk', yet 111 tells me to contact my GP straight away to receive the appropriate care? I do not feel helped by this surgery. I had to go to the same doctor three times before I got referred for blood tests and I had to eventually go to a completely different doctor to be referred for an ultrasound regarding a lump I had found in my breast. This caused delays in my care and results which increased my anxiety and affected my daily stress. I often feel very nervous and uncomfortable contacting this surgery as they often belittle me and I find the receptionists are very rude and blunt. Even when I do get an appointment, I do not feel heard, seen, or understood by the doctors which makes me put off my ailments to get worse because it is such a nightmare trying to get anywhere with anyone at the practice. I am very disappointed in their concern for patients or urgency for the appropriate care that people need and it needs to be reviewed extensively to ensure people are being treated and looked after in accordance to their symptoms and problems. It is simply not good enough.

  3. Review titled Can’t get an appointment, never ever get back to you.

Rated 1 star out of 5

By the time you get an appointment you could be dead, when you do (if you do) get through, no appointments available and say they will get back to you but never do. They are shockingly bad. Trying to move to a practice that will actually see you and give you an appointment.

  4. Review titled Lack of travel advice readily accessible

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 19 September 2023

Upon contacting the surgery for vaccinations some 5 weeks prior to travel I am informed that it is surgery ‘policy’ that they need 6 weeks notice to action this request. So, despite being promised a return call from the surgery which was never received I made a 3rd phone-call to ask that just our children received a tetanus injection but again due to the surgery not having 6 weeks notice this was refused!!! I appreciate things take time but surely if this is a policy then patients should be made aware that this request takes so long to action and it is publicised within the practice and on the website. There was no attempt to check if the nurse had any availability - just an assumption she would be unable to accommodate my request due to it not meeting the ‘surgery requirements’. A relative at a different surgery had no issues and has just had her injections without issue so I am unsure why this process takes so long at Kiltearn. So, if anyone is travelling and needs vaccinations be sure to make contact more than 6 weeks prior to travel!!!

  5. Review titled Unresponsive and inadequate

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 10 August 2023

I've been trying to access HRT from Kiltearn since January. When an item I've prescribed isn't available, it requires a new GP appointment, or a phone call with the practice pharmacist which either isn't possible (no appointments, try again next week, and the next, and the next or takes many days and even then the new prescription is also unavailable). I'm now out of my prescription entirely and cannot get an appointment to renew it, and the online 'patient access' says I cannot use repeat prescription services online. I have signed up for private HRT services after 6 months of heartache and hassles - so at least someone picks up the phone and speaks to me when I need more of my hormones.

  6. Review titled Inappropriate response now no response

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Rachael - Posted on 24 August 2023

I used e-consult because I was only requesting a new contraceptive prescription. A family member had done this and had no issues. Sadly it wasn't the same for me. They messaged to say e-consult is not used for emergencies and that a clinician had not reviewed my request. I then emailed saying it wasn't an emergency - I just wanted my prescription. All I've had is silence. There is no chance phoning as you never get through so this means I will have to go into the surgery (when they tell you not to) all because I was trying to be helpful. I have looked on other local doctor's websites and they have easy forms to complete for the contraceptive pill - a few personal details, your height/weight, blood pressure, smoking status = done. Perhaps Kiltearn should take a look around and not attempt to make things so difficult for their patients.

  7. Review titled Phone & emails not answered, prescription not issued

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 31 July 2023

I’ve just joined this surgery but I wish I hadn’t. The phone is never answered, emails are not replied to, and my repeat prescription has not been fulfilled meaning I’m nearly out of medication. Very poor indeed.

  8. Review titled Appalling practice

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 06 March 2024

I’ve been at this surgery for over 20 years. My first experience was with a doctor who had no concern over my well-being. In fact I presented with anaphylaxis and was given the exact same drug which was causing it… Not to mention the great difficulty in actually speaking with anyone over the phone. Waiting in a queue over an hour, to be told you’re first in the queue to never have anybody actually answer the phone. When you miraculously get an appointment, it’s not until another month… only for this to be cancelled last minute and not even a call to arrange another date. I never call the doctors unless absolutely necessary, and having this yearly check up is vital for my health. Yet I am becoming increasingly stressed and frustrated with a service that cannot provide basic care to its patients. I would never recommend this service to anyone and will be contacting other surgeries to move as soon as possible. This is beyond disappointing.

Dear Patient, Thank you for your feedback. We are very sorry for your experience in March this year and we hope that your issues have been resolved. We cannot comment in detail on your clinical issues without knowing further details, which are more than happy to do so, should you wish. You can contact us on kiltearn.reception@nhs.net where we can look into this. In relation to your wait on our phone system, we do now have a new cloud system in place where there is a callback option if you are 7th or more in the queue, you press the option and this holds your call in the queue so you don't have to wait on the phone. Once you are first in the queue then we ring you back, I hope this will help you when contacting us again in the future. Our routine clinical appointments are pre-bookable up to 2 weeks in advance and these are released each day, we are sorry that your appointment was cancelled, any cancellation is frustrating and again we apologise but we do only cancel appointment in extenuating circumstances. We hope this answers some of your concerns but please contact us to discuss these in more detail. Kind regards Kiltearn Medical Centre.

  9. Review titled Poor Service

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 27 March 2023

It took several days to get through, when I did I was offered an appointment 6 weeks in advance. When I did attend for the appointment the wait was so long I had to return to work without being seen. I can only get an hour off for doctor’s appointments and despite not being seen I was late back to work - very poor service

  10. Review titled Fed up

Can't quite get my head around the fact that my siblings (ASD) some hospital & Gp files contained incorrect information. Whilst trying to sort that, even more information had been put on file that was also incorrect I.e. disabilities that not been assessed & listed, access to records put on file 7 years before consent form was signed .assessment suddendly appeared to which no referal was ever made with yr, one of two assessments this yr, told only one was actually on file & not both, had no consultantion as to what scores were or meant but do have photocopies. Private diagnostic report handed into practice a few weeks ago and still have heard nothing back . Waited for telephone consultation went straight to voicemail, not shown as missed call, rang practice and informed them to be told Dr ..will try three times to contact, still nothing.
