    Receptionists are extremely unhelpful and honestly don’t know what they’re doing, they leave you confused and honestly angry because of the way they mess you about. They are extremely rude and blame the patients for their negligence - going as far as even laughing about me to one another as i turned my back. Disrespectful and rude.

    Rang to see a doctor regarding an on going problem I had taken antibiotics for, was told surgery at capacity and I would either have to ring 111 or go to Dewsbury walk in centre. Spoke to 111 who recommended I ring doctors back and request another dose on antibiotics. Rang Grange Group to request antibiotics, was told the at capacity and I would need to go to dewsbury walk in centre. At dewsbury had chest xray and showed chest infection. two weeks later still coughing and bringing up phlegm, rang Grange group and told I could have a phone consultation in 10 days to get more antibiotics. Spoke to 111, told to go to Huddersfield A and E, saw doctor who recommended not to have further course of antibiotics and see how I go.

Like any appointment system, ours can become fully booked. This can be impacted by staff sickness or by increased patient demand. Our patient care advisors are all trained to signpost patients to the most appropraite service, and sometimes that might be another health care service. I am pleased to learn you were able to get advice and treatment quickly upon following our teams advice. Your comments will be shared with our whole team at the next clinical meeting, and we will learn from your comments. Our appointment system is frequently reviewed and changes made to improve access.     My recent experience has certainly revealed bad practice by the admin workers. I see a very similar pattern of behaviour reflected by many other reviews on this site prompting me to share my experience. The admin workers & phone personnel have very bad etiquette. They do imply they have appropriate medical knowledge to diagnose patients as they did with my child. Even recommended specific antibiotics! Then put the phone down on me when I did not accept this advise. This is simply unacceptable. It is not the first bad experience with the admin team. The most bizarre is that you are unable to make a complaint to the practise as it is the complaint handler themself who adopts such bad behaviour & verbal aggression. The only other people to reach out to would be the local government authority. It is a shame that others patients have had a standard response when they have raised concerns about non medical staffs right to offer medical advise. The attitude & aggression really needs to change as it is the general public who are paying for this service. A standard response of “ signposting” or the fact that review is anonymous does not really reflect improvement. It is the call hanlders that really need to undergo training & told they have no medical training. It would also be a suggestion to advise them that they should not take 40mins to anwer the call & then put the phone down on the pretence it has been cut off. Should these changes be implemented than we would be more than pleased to submit another review in the future. So do not need the ds to ask. Many thanks

    Dear patient Please contact my team and I directly at the practice to arrange a meeting to discuss your review further. I will be more than happy to investigate any of the issues you have generally raised. In particular, I will be keen to understand the time you called, and the waiting time was 40 minutes (as our recent average is usually under 3 mins every day - and we share our call performance regularly on twitter @grangemedical). We can certainly improve on that call waiting time, and that is unusual for us. I will also be keen to retrieve any call recordings where you met with unhelpful receptionists or instances where you feel they had provided medical advice. It is certainly not within the admin/call handler remit to provide medical advice, and I would like to assess if this was simply signposting to other services or whether further training is required. Calls are recorded for training and monitoring, and it would be most helpful if you could provide specifics about your call. I would need the rough time, or certainly the date of your call and the number you called from. I am more than happy for you to provide this further information about your grievance directly to me at the practice. Please also include details of your previous complaint and the complaint handler. I hope I can be assured I will investigate any issues raised and provide you with a full response. I would strongly encourage you follow the appropriate channels to raise such a complaint and desist in generically belittling the admin and reception team, as this severely impacts staff morale and can lead to trained people leaving us, causing gaps in the service for patients.     This practice has gone down since I joined 35 years ago & now scrapes the floor. I can't get an appointment when I want one. Some of the receptionists are polite but most of them are rude.

    Dear anonymous patient I am disappointed to receive such a general review and 1-star rating. I would much preferred you had provided your thoughts and suggestions on how we can improve. Simply stating the practice has "gone down" in the last 35 years is such a vague comment and doesn't give me any indication if you have raised issues in the past 35 years, nor what the outcomes issues have been. I'm genuinely sorry to hear you think "most" of our receptionists are rude. This feedback will be shared with the reception/admin team and I'm sure they will be as disappointed as I. I hope you have raised any problematic encounters with receptionists with a senior member of the team so we were able to feedback to the receptionist and have them reflect and improve. I would like to take this opportunity to explain the immense difficulties of being a GP receptionist. They are specially trained to gather information about a patient's complex medical problem and then to direct that patient into the most appropriate appointment. This may involve signposting the patient to another service, which supports General Practice by offering a dedicated specialism - eg. for eye problem or musculoskeletal problems. This task is made more difficult when patients are not fully aware of these services, and equally often not accepting of being directed into those services. Constantly labeling GP receptionists as "rude" is unhelpful, as it risks losses and recruitment gaps in that workforce. I'm sorry to hear you have experienced issues with accessing an appointment, but stating you cannot get an appointment "when you want one" doesn't help me understand your issue at all - were you expecting to be seen in a week, or the same day? It can also help to know what time and day you had contacted the practice to seek an appointment, and what options were offered to support you. Your feedback will be shared with our whole team and we will explore solutions to improve the patient experience. However, I would value a meeting with you to discuss the particulars of your review and I will be happy to investigate these as a complaint, should you be able to provide more specific detail.
