Review titled Clearly understaffed and overwhelmed
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 12 September 2024
We were offered an emergency appointment for my newborn, and given 15mins to get to the surgery, which we managed. We rushed ourselves to get there, filled in the forms and were told to wait - still on time! Two hours later and we still had not been seen - we asked at the desk multiple times to be told they “don’t know why we were skipped” and that “we were definitely next to be seen” and finally they admitted that when we checked in they never booked us as being present so we were just being shuffled to the back of a queue for when a doctor happened to have a spare slot. I ended up in tears, shuffled to a side room to breastfeed because they were still unsure how much longer we were going to have to wait: a Simple mistake at the desk but it has now spiralled to a ridiculous wait time and we are stuck in limbo.

Dear Anonymous Being a new parent and having a poorly baby is very stressful, which we totally appreciate but there were misunderstanding from both sides regarding your experience on 12th September. I have responded to you privately with statements from our staff regarding your comments and details from the telephone call which are slightly different to your version of events. I have respectfully asked if you would like to review your comments before I responded but have not as yet received a response. I understand you must be busy with a new little one. We all hope things have settled down and your baby is feeling more comfortable. Please remember we are here to help if you need us. Take care Kim Simpson Practice Manager

Review titled Running late

Waited over half an hour after my appointment time. When I got there it felt very rushed. Would have preferred more information on my shoulder problem.

Dear Lyn I'm sorry you had to wait past your appointment time, unfortunately I can't look into why that was as I do not know who you saw, however it is not ideal and we apologise for that. If your shoulder is still troubling you, we do have a Musculoskeletal clinician called an FCP who deals with joint issues. Please contact our reception team and ask for an appointment with the FCP and they will arrange this for you. He can then offer advice and a treatment plan if applicable. I see you have still given us a 3 star rating so we must have done something right thankfully, we personally don't think about star ratings when helping patients, we just like to get it right and provide the help patients need or at least point them in the right direction of specialist help, however we understand that ratings and reviews are extremely helpful to others and aids them to make decisions on which service to choose, so we are grateful for the rating boost. Thank you again for taking the time to leave your comments. Please contact us directly if we can help you further. Take care Kim Simpson Practice Manager

Dear Anonymous We are sorry to hear that you had such a long wait, this is not something we expect to happen unless there is an emergency and then the reception team would update everyone waiting for the GP concerned. We would like to put processes in place so that parents with Autistic children or carers of Autistic adults do not have the same experience as you had on this occasion in the future. As you have commented anonymously I have not been able to contact you privately to discuss our thoughts on improving this situation moving forward, If you would like to help us with this, please email thedow.surgery@nhs.net and put FAO Kim Simpson in the subject line, I will respond with our thoughts and would welcome your views on our plans to improve. This review, although an upsetting experience for you, has been very helpful to us as it has drawn to our attention something we may otherwise had not been aware of, so we thank you for taking the time to post your review. Kind regards Kim Simpson Practice Manager

Review titled Doctor's are good
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Akii - Posted on 09 August 2024
I was given an appointment for my little one yesterday after calling in, which I'm thankful for. And I also had my baby with me too. The room got packed twice and everyone got seen. About 25mins later another parent comes in and for some reason she was seen before us with the same doctor (she obviously asked at the desk if she can be seen quickly) because it looked like her baby was a little upset. I'm soo disappointed by this action and this was the first time it happened. After waiting almost 45 mins no one cared to say there'll be a short wait or this lady will get seen before you because her baby is upset. I don't understand why that was okay. After attending the desk and asking for a form to leave them with feedback surprisingly they had no form and the lady at the desk said she'll print one out for me but the doctor finally decided to call us and so I didn't get a chance to fill it in.

Dear Akii Thank you for taking the time to leave your comments, apologies for the delay in responding. Would you please confirm the details of the appointment by emailing thedow.surgery@nhs.net so that I can investigate your experience further. Our reception team have been asked to announce any delays for patients waiting to see clinicians and to keep everyone in the waiting room updated. We do also have medical students on site and sometimes they see patients and need their consultation and treatment plan reviewed by their trainers which can delay surgery times, this may have been the case however I would appreciate more information so I can check thoroughly for you. Kind regards Kim Simpson Practice Manager
