Review titled Appointment availability
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 21 November 2023
I asked the receptionist face to face for a GP appointment at some point in the next week or so. No privacy when asked to explain why. Then only offered triage. This is not a robust, supportive or a accommodating service. it appears to be too much to expect to achieve a non emergency appointment with a GP and discuss with them only my reason for requesting an appointment. I cannot stuck on a phone for two hours in the hope of getting an appointment, this is unachievable, which is why I visited your reception.

Review titled Waste of an appointment
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Catherine Foster - Posted on 09 October 2023
Last week I wrote a review, waited for my email confirmation which did not come, so presume my review will not be published. Yet another reason why I would not recommend this practice. My review was about having a flu vaccination appointment. Having been given the appointment by a nurse at the practice (not the one I eventually saw), I attending the appointment, I was told that I was not entitled to have it. I told the nurse that I was because my husband was clinically vulnerable but the nurse was having none of it. Kept quoting the NHS website, but obviously this person had not read it because quite clearly it states on the website that I was. Having taken my booking it was a compete waste of not only my time but the appointment time. In an age where you cannot get an appointment easily to see anyone I was disgusted at the way I was treated. "So whats wrong with your husband" was the derogatory mannered question. The nurse made me feel like I was lying to get a free flu vaccination. Both my clinically vulnerable husband and I have been at the practice for 10 years. My experience with the practice in that time has not been great. I rarely see a doctor, and when I have they have made me feel as if I have wasted there time. So this was the last straw; thankfully I am in the catchment area for another surgery. Hopefully they will treat me with a little more respect, and not make me feel I am doing something wrong. I was entitled to the vaccination not just for me but to help to protect an immuno-compromised hard organ transplant patient; something the goverment thinks I should do but not the Taverham Surgery.

Review titled Finally understood
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Zoe - Posted on 25 July 2023
I came in for an appointment with an ANP today and she was absolutely incredible. She didn’t make me feel like I was wasting her time and was brilliant with talking to me to get to the bottom of my problems. I have never felt so listened to and understood, I wanted to say a massive thank you. Also praise to the whole surgery especially the reception team, I’ve been where you are and it’s one of the hardest jobs going, you are all great.

Review titled Amazing staff and practice
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Kerry Vincent - Posted on 07 June 2023
Can’t rate the surgery and staff enough. On my last 2 visits I have been fortunate enough to be able to see the same doctor and I have to say he was the best. He listened to me, didn’t make me feel like I needed to rush and explained so much to me. When having to book another appointment the receptionist was also very friendly and helpful.

Review titled Poor response
Rated 4 stars out of 5

This is the first time in all the years I’ve been with this doctors I’ve not been happy, had bad bruising on arm which as the day got on got worse, took several hours to contact me back and was told they were not concerned, my wife showed the pictures to a 2 pharmacist and they said I should go to A&E, she contacted the doctors back again said they were not concerned without even looking at it, my wife sent pictures of it and again said they were not concerned,I left it overnight in which got a lot worse so in the morning my wife called 111 and spoke to a paramedic and she told me to go straight to A&E 111 were very helpful so took their advice and the hospital were brilliant and gave me a diagnosis, I feel very let down by the doctors because if they had looked at it and diagnosed it I would not have to be worried about it and wouldn’t had to have to go to the hospital, well done A&E, I don’t like writing reports like this but I think the practice which includes the pharmacist should know.

Review titled A Surgery Full of "Faceless Doctors"
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 17 March 2023
Saw the Physician’s Associate, who's very amiable, but not the person to see if you want a decision made; apparently a discussion is held with a Dr at the end of the day & the conclusion relayed to one over the phone - Don't be fooled into thinking they're under the supervision of a Dr, simply because no one else was involved during the appointment! I kept away from the surgery for a fortnight, hoping my immune system would fight the "infection", it didn't work so now I'm in their hands. It amazes me that as all of us mortals go about our business, shopping in Tescos etc, mingling with the rest of humanity, all without the aid of masks, that Drs surgery treat everyone like a pariah. Even the receptionist, who's protected by mask & perspex screen, had trouble hearing some patients, including me. - I've kept this review anonymous simply because even a broken lifebuoy has to be better than no lifebuoy at all & I'm not looking for a backlash from the surgery!

Thank you for your feedback. The Physician’s Associate is an integral part of our team working within a range of competencies. Please visit the website below for more details on the role of a Physician’s Associate. https://www.nhsemployers.org/articles/physician-associates#:~:text=Physician%20associates%20(PAs)%20are%20healthcare,work%20autonomously%20with%20appropriate%20support.. All our clinical staff are subject to appropriate levels of clinical supervision and therefore the matter you raised is not unusual if it is sufficently complex and outside the competancy of the attending clinician. With regards to mask wearing and other infection control measures around Covid-19 we follow the latest guidance from the Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care Board which is: - “NWICB recommend that all healthcare providers across Norfolk and Waveney continue to encourage mask wearing for both staff and patients within clinical areas. There are number of reasons to support this. Asymptomatic testing has now been paused which may mean there is a delay in identifying accurate COVID-19 prevalence within the region and county, leading to some potentially preventable outbreaks occurring. This coupled with an anticipated high flu season presents an increased risk to our local patients and staff. If staff wish to wear masks in non- clinical areas this can be personal preference.” We treat all complaints seriously and as a minimum use them as learning events. Be assured that that making a complaint will not detriment you. The anonymous nature of your comments means that we are unable to fully investigate the issues you have raised to establish if there was a shortfall in our triaging or if additional training is required.

Review titled Excellent experience with the Physician’s Associate
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Hazel - Posted on 22 February 2023
I had an excellent experience with the Physician’s Associate at Taverham Surgery this week, when he treated my 6yo son. The Physician’s Associate was very friendly, personable and sensitive professional with my child. He was very skilled in communicating with my young child showing empathy and great emotional intelligence. He was exceptionally thorough in his assessment and diagnosis. He is a warm individual and very open to listening to the patients views and he seems to really value patient care. I was also seen by him in November 2022 and was very impressed with his clinical ability and patient care - he is a real asset to the Taverham team! Many thanks !

Review titled Dissapointing
Rated 4 stars out of 5

: My child has come in contact at school with many children with scarlet fever. Had obvious almost all symptoms. I called to get an appointment But doctor and receptionist dismissed it and I was told is Covid for sure and to call back after 5 days if he still has fever. 5 days of high fever without doing anything seems a bit much for a small child. When I told receptionist that child came in contact with scarlet fever I was just told they are aware of this being around. But how is that helping my child that they are aware? I am upset that I told receptionist my child had Covid before and it was nothing like this. I requested to be tested for Strep A but she said they do not test. Please listen more to parents. I do not normally call for any little fever if I don’t feel I have to. Thank you

Dear Patient Unfortunately due to the anonymous nature of your comments on this website we are unable to review the individual case you are highlighting. The surgery has seen a surge of understandably worried parents following the recent media reporting of Strep A. Our responses are based on the history provided at the time and the current guidance. Due to the resistance that over prescribing of antibiotics cause and the lack of availability of the relevant antibiotics we will only prescribe for confirmed cases. We will also only test if the history taken suggests that testing is appropriate. Below are links to the NHS website sections relating to Strep A and Scarlet Fever. If after reading these you are directed to contact us please do so. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/strep-a/ https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/scarlet-fever/

Review titled Communication is very poor
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 02 November 2022
Every time I ring the surgery I have to wait in the queue for at least 30 minutes before anyone answers. But sometimes no one answers. It was better communicating online at one point but this stopped. I wanted to order repeat prescriptions but this has been greyed out for at least a few days and I will need them soon.
