  1. Review titled Always disappointing

Rated 1 star out of 5

It's impossible to get through on the phone, I've waited half an hour before only to be hung up on. Online form takes forever and then is never read properly by clinicians. Can't get face to face appointments and had to wait a week just for a call back from doctor. So unhappy with service but no other alternative in Plympton

  2. Review titled Falling Standards and Lack of Patient Care

Rated 1 star out of 5

    by R McKenzie - Posted on 13 May 2024

Having been a patient for over 30 years, the service offered over the last 5 years is increasingly declining and the lack of patient care is alarming. I fear the practice is too intent on expanding rather than looking after patients they already have. If you are considering registering then I would seriously reconsider. It’s next to impossible to get an appointment, and is now equally impossible to even get a call. All recent eConsults have resulted in a generic 14 day wait, with the same cut and paste responses made. A sift GP reviews the eConsults but they clearly don’t read them properly. NHS online recommends contacting your GP for a number of conditions or if symptoms are ongoing or persisting for a period of time, however Beacon does not seem to follow the guidance, so if NHS online tells you to contact your GP, then there is little point as Beacon will not follow the same guidance. In my recent eConsult I got a generic response telling me to wait 2 weeks to speak to my GP, despite it being an urgent care matter and not requiring my specific GP to deal, and that should I get worse to recontact the practice. My symptoms have worsened, so I tried to do this by phone but there is little point as they never answer. So I submitted another eConsult and despite some concerning progression in my illness and some concerning symptoms, I received the same cut and the expected date of response from the sift GP that I’d got the week before. I fear one day having something potentially seriously wrong with me, as the additional time that Beacon take to deal with anything, and the apparent lack of care or attention could be the difference between early identification or catching something too late. It’s sad to see the decline of what was once such a friendly, helpful and supportive set of practices.

Thankyou for your feedback, I am sorry to read that you are disappointed with the service received from the practice. Like many practices, we are facing unprecedented demand for our services, we offer a same day service for urgent medical needs and routine appointments are offered with a patients usual GP for continuity of care- usually within a two week time frame. We try to operate in the safest way possible, seeing those patients whose clinical needs are more urgent sooner, to do this a GP will review requests for appointment and allocate based on clinical need. When submitting a second online consultation requesting a sooner appointment due to worsening symptoms, if its clear in the request that you have an appointment already and your symptoms have changed this should have been picked up and we take on board your feedback regarding the standard message not being appropriate in this scenario. We can look into why this didn’t happen, and will share with our wider teams to improve the messaging patients receive. If you would like us to look into the specifics of your consultation, please email us at d-icb.beaconcomplaints@nhs.net If your symptoms continue to worsen please call the practice and speak to a patient advisor. We have more call handlers now answering calls, most calls are now answered within 10 minutes. Regards Lauren Patient Liaison and Communication Lead

The Doctor called and went through 3 medical conditions I wanted to discuss and suggested treatments and next steps, with kindness and consideration. Thank you so much for all your help.

  6. Review titled Stuck up receptionists

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Heather - Posted on 10 July 2024

Want my prescription a little earlier as was going abroad. Receptionist said I could have 1 day early even though I said boots take 4 days to complete. She fetched another person who implied they would do me a favour and send to another chemist. It took an econsultation to get my prescription Worst receptionists I have ever encountered.

  7. Review titled Very helpful

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Rachel Broomfield - Posted on 22 May 2024

I completed an e-consult form online and got a call a few days later for a doctor's appointment that day. As the issue (in my opinion) did not appear urgent, this was ideal and suited me. However, it turned out to be far more urgent and the GP sent me straight to the hospital for further tests.

This practice has continued to give me time and understanding of my problems. All calls and messages are answered and dealt with efficiently. I miss the waiting room service, but I am now getting used to the new system.
