Rated 5 stars out of 5

Made a phone call to the surgery & explained my symptoms. I received a message from the GP within the hour and a prescription was issued without delay. No fuss or hassle.

  2. Review titled GP/nurse

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I saw both a dr and a nurse recently and was very happy with appointments. Dr wanted blood tests but they were not taken within days of app I had to wait for 4 wks for that app. My only complaint was having to go to Rawdon when I was supposed to go to Yeadon. I am still awaiting results.

  4. Review titled Excellent Service

Thank you so much to all the staff for being polite, professional, efficient and respectful for my daughter’s first visit. I was so impressed from the very first phone call to get my daughter booked in. Not only was the communication in between the appointment superb, the GP who we then went on to visit at very short notice was fantastic. Thank you to the lovely staff who initially answered my call and then called back with a last minute app. Thank you to the reception staff for re arranging my app for the same evening when I was stuck in traffic and was delayed. Thank you to the GP who saw my daughter and put her at ease. I am very appreciative and thankful. Many thanks to all the staff.

  5. Review titled Poor communication

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 29 December 2023

We were offered a short notice, same day, appointment which was great. We've had this before and the online triage system seems to work really well generally. The appointment was in 40 minutes so a rush to get the poorly wife ready and get small child to agree to get into the car. We arrived on time, dropped, wife jumped out but came back 5 minutes later in tears. Apparently the appointment was 15 minutes earlier despite both of us hearing the same thing when the call came earlier. They offered no apology, no offer of anything else and were quite rude about it. We weren't late and even if the time was as they said it doesn't seem unreasonable to try to fit in when that would have been only 20 minutes notice. All round really disappointing and my wife is feeling more unwell as a result of the whole episode and the way it was handled.

I'm really sorry to hear that this happened and there has been some confusion. Patients are often booked in for urgent appointments at short notice and we always do what we can to make things fit for both the patient and GP. Its unclear what happened here and we would have been happy to rearranged this for you if the GP really wasn't able to see you as planned. I hope that you were given an alternative time later that day to come in? We can't fully reply on here due to patient confidentiality, but please do get back in touch and let us have further details of your appointment and details, so that we can investigate this further and get to the bottom of where the misunderstanding arose.

  6. Review titled Disgraceful

Rated 1 star out of 5

Over the past 2 now nearly 3 years, I have had to have a blood test followed by an injection every 10/12 weeks. They have consistently messed this up. This latest is I've had to text 3 times for them to make me 2 appointments for the 2nd week in January. I am sick to death of so called professional bodies having so much incompetence. I never know if they can fit me in at Yeadon. I have so far been sent to Rawdon, Guiseley, Menston, Yeadon Health Centre and Otley Hospital for this treatment. Totally unacceptable in my opinion. They should be more pro active and make accommodation for their long term patients. Instead of sending us all around the area.

I am sorry to hear that you have concerns to raise, and to do so on this NHS Public ratings channel unfortunately is not an appropriate way to do so. We are not able to comment on individual cases on here due to patient confidentiality. Please contact the surgery by phone or our online receptionist and we would be very happy to look further into your concerns and help. We also have a complaints process that enables patients to raise concerns in a more formal way. Please contact the practice in any of these ways and we will be happy to try and unpick what has been going wrong to cause you to feel this way and find a positive way forward.

  7. Review titled Very poor practice

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Christopher Horne - Posted on 31 January 2024

After having two heart attacks the aftercare has been almost non existent as I can’t book appointments for bloods, blood pressure and cholesterol as there aren’t any appointments available. I was advised to go to hospital. I haven’t had a medication review in ages as there aren’t any appointments available. In September I had a road traffic accident and as a result am getting severe headaches and Tinnitus which are impacting on my quality of life as I am not sleeping and it is also affecting my work. And guess what? I can’t get an appointment. I am in my 60’s an thought that the NHS looked after the elderly. How wrong I was. This is a very poor practice indeed.

I am sorry to hear that you have concerns to raise with the practice and that you have felt the need to do that on multiple online forums instead of contacting the practice. We do have a thorough complaints process that enables us to investigate all patient concerns further. We shall forward you details about that so that we can then begin an off line discussion about what difficulties you have been facing and why, and to try to understand what's happened. Best Wishes Victoria Johnson Practice Manager

A family member has been unwell for a while and can not get an appointment for another 4 weeks. What is she supposed to do for those 4 weeks? I wanted to see a GP myself last week and had to send a photo! I never contact the GP unless I feel it necessary so was very disappointed. I got more advice from my local pharmacist than the GP.

I'm sorry to hear that you have not been happy with the appointments offered. I hope that I can clarify a little about our process to give you some assurances. When patients get in touch, ALL requests are passed to a GP who assessed symptoms on the same day. In some cases the GP asks for further information such as photos to help them to understand what's happening without having to take up a 10 minute appointment. Looking at photos helps the GP to decide if anyone else can help and how urgent it is. In some cases patients might be asked to go to the Pharmacy or Physio instead, or to other colleagues. All of these things help free up GP appointments. Because you have submitted a request for an appointment, I am assured that your symptoms have been assessed on the same day by a GP and they have decided that it is a routine problem. If however you're not happy with the GPs assessment that your medical problem is routine rather than urgent, you are welcome to contact again with additional or new information that may help the GP to understand further such as pain level, or discomfort or the impact of this condition that means you would find it difficult to wait, etc The next routine appointment as at today is currently 3 weeks. We are always trying to monitor this regularly and add in additional capacity wherever we can, but things such as last week's junior doctor strike, next weeks bank holiday and staff sickness, etc all do have an impact on waiting times. As we also have some new staff starting in September whose rota have been added now, if you have an appointment in 4 weeks, do perhaps consider calling again to see if anything is now available sooner than that. Reception will always be happy to check for you. Best wishes

  9. Review titled Excellent Practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Reception staff are generally well trained; efficient and pleasant. As a patient of the surgery I don’t have much contact for myself but last week I attended an appointment with my elderly mother and the GP who we saw was excellent. Really lovely manner; very thorough, patient and helpful. We did not feel hurried at all and all our concerns/issues were dealt with professionally and with kindness. The particular GP is a real asset. A huge thank you.

  10. Review titled On-line services query

Rated 3 stars out of 5

    by N Bradbury - Posted on 08 June 2023

I have on a number of occasions tried to access the on-line reception desk. It is closed at weekends and bank holidays, which, in the first instance puzzled me. I came to accept this as it was "Out of Hours". However, today, I attempted to access it at 4.20pm. The surgery is open till 6.00pm. Why therefore is the on-line reception desk closed?? This is an inanimate object, it is computer software, no-one is needed to "acknowledge receipt" of the request/query, this can be done retrospectively when the surgery is open and the matter is "formally" logged onto the system. The only reason I can see for this apparent lack of access to the facility is to reduce workload by the anticipation that a number of patients will resolve matters/problems by other means. Surely if the National Health Service are talking of automating and upgrading the telephone systems more such that patients "do more" themselves in resolving their health issues, then having a computer system that can be used out-of-hours is a minimum requirement? It makes me ask the question of what is actually done in my Doctor's practice? Anything, nothing or the bare minimum. I await a reply.

I'm sorry to hear that here has been some confusion here. Our online website system at Aire Valley Surgery (Online Receptionist) is actually not at all automated. It is manned by a GP who triages all incoming requests for appointments and medical information and responds and directs accordingly - this is why many patients feedback that they can get an appointment offer within a few moments of having gotten in touch. When our online Receptionist closes for the day at 4pm (which is clearly advertised), reception telephone lines remain open until 6pm and and reception desks remain open until 6.30pm ofcourse for anything else that we can help with that can't wait. If you're hoping for an automated system, our online receptionist is not what you're looking for. Please consider looking at other automated systems which are available by going to www.nhs.uk and that is open 24/7 or the NHS App where patients can order prescriptions and view their medical record/test results, etc. To ensure that everyone understands our opening times, our website reads as follows: "The quickest and easiest way to access the practice is via our Online Reception desk which is open: Monday to Friday 8.00am until 4.00pm. Our telephone lines are open: Monday to Friday 8.00am until 6.00pm. Our reception desks are open from Monday to Friday 8am until 6.30pm If you need help outside of these times please call 111 or in an emergency call 999." I hope that this is helpful in understanding what our system is. Best wishes
