    Every time I've visited, the team have always been extremely helpful and yesterday was no exception. My elderly Mum has regular needs for medication and my Dad was unable to do this for her this week due to being in hospital. There was important information that I was missing when I called in to collect the prescription. Both the lady who served me and the manager were reassuring and endeavoured to get to the bottom of a query regarding allergies. They could have easily just said "the chemist is closed now, call back tomorrow", but they didn't. Instead they went out of their way, working later than usual to dispense the medication for me. I have to say that old fashioned customer service these days is rare and should be applauded. The manager and staff of this chemist are so valuable to the local community and I hope that they are respected and valued as much as they should be. Thank you for the service you provide at Masons Chemist in Markfield. You are amazing and I appreciate and value the service you offer to the elderly and vulnerable in Markfield.

    Despite me arriving just as the chemist was closing, the staff still managed to get my repeat prescription sorted with smiles. I am so grateful as I had completely run out of the needed medication. What superb people these are, huge huge thanks from me.

    I suddenly found myself short of prescription drugs for my Dad, both Markfield surgery and Mason's chemist made sure they sorted the situation out fully within a couple of hours. The pharmacist especially was super helpful even staying after closing time to make sure I had all the correct prescription.......Thank You!

    I’m writing this after standing in a queue with 9 people in front of me and 8 behind. The people around me all raised the same issues. 1. Why does the chemist close at lunchtime? 2. How are the chemist going to cope when the new houses are built? We are finding more and more that prescriptions are not ready ( it’s not always convenient to wait “5 or 10 minutes”) or that the service itself is so slow!

    We are sorry to read this review about the Markfield branch of Masons Chemists and indeed with our hands somewhat tied, recognise that service levels have declined over the past few years due to the pressures caused by the chronic underfunding of community pharmacies. In response to your specific questions- firstly we close at lunchtime as a patient safety measure as under current regulations we cannot operate without a Responsible Pharmacist. The lunch break is there to protect their rest periods and give an uninterrupted break- would you be confident in a healthcare professional who has worked over 9 hours straight without a break? Secondly regarding the coping with the new houses, we are working very hard to try and mitigate the over 30% (in real term) funding cuts we have faced over the past 7 years against a tsunami of rising costs. Work we have undertaken includes investing in automation and centralising some of the more labour intensive operations we complete as well as trying to raise awareness of increased processing times to patients to avoid them coming in earlier than our published processing times and finding that their medication is not ready yet. Other ways you can help include taking a moment to understand the monumental pressure our branch teams are facing and recognising that they are trying their very best in difficult circumstances.     Ordered prescription on Monday said it will be ready for collection in three days went in on Friday 5 days later was told its not ready yet

    Dear Patient. I am sorry to hear that our service did not meet your expectations. When you order your prescription from Markfield medical centre the surgery request 72 hours (3 days) for the prescription to be written at which point it is sent to the pharmacy for processing. Once we receive the prescriptions we work hard to ensure they are ready as soon as possible however sometimes factors outside of our control can affect service levels (stock availability, volume of requests, staffing levels, delays at the surgery etc) without details on your specific prescription it is hard to see whether your prescription was affected. Our published timescale (available in the pharmacy and in the surgery) says that a prescription ordered on a Monday should be ready for collection on a Thursday. If you speak with our pharmacy team they will be happy to investigate this incident and put in place measures to prevent it happening again. Kind regards Masons Chemists
