Once referred by camhs, there was still a fairly long wait but I can understand why and we were kept informed of our progress. Every clinician that we met/spoke to was professional and kind. Once the assessments started, it was all pretty swift and slick.

Review titled Rushed and lacking in resources
Rated 1 star out of 5

From my experience: 1. appointment facilities are not up to the nhs standard (e.g. not allowed in same room with my child during the assessment which caused frustration to both of us) 2. manual keeping of records during the ados assessment prone to human error and inaccuracies in the report and scoring - nhs record answers into the system/computer during the assessment 3. shorter assessment / rushed / not allowed to give feedback during the assessment 4. no blood samples taken

Hi, we are sorry to hear that you did not have a good experience for your child's assessment with Psicon. As we do not have your name, we are unable to look into your individual case, but we would like to offer some reassurance more generally on the issues you raise. It sounds like your concerns relate to the ADOS part of an autism assessment. The ADOS is a standardised and well validated tool to aid assessment of autism. It is suitable for children of different ages, with different 'modules' for different ages or verbal abilities. If a child is very young, or anxious about separating from their parent, the parent may join the ADOS session, either for a short time to ensure the child feels comfortable, or for the whole session if appropriate. If the parent is required to attend the interview element of the assessment while the child is in the ADOS appointment, we advise families to ensure a second adult attends to accompany the child if they are concerned they will not be able to go in the ADOS alone. Notes are taken by hand during the ADOS assessment because that is how the tool is validated to be used. Introducing a laptop for note taking into the ADOS assessment would alter the social interaction between the child and the clinician, and would therefore invalidate the ADOS. There is no blood test for autism, and no clinical guidelines recommend bloods to be taken during an autism assessment. We are sorry to hear that the assessment felt rushed, and that you felt you weren't able to give feedback. If you would like to contact Psicon, either via feedback@psicon.co.uk or by calling 01227 379 099, we will be able to address your concerns in more detail.

Referred through Camhs (Barnet) as had been on wait list for a long time Both appointments once we got them were professional with very caring medical professionals We received the outcome at the end of the second appointment. Both appointments were within 18 days of eachother so once the assessment started it was quick. Just a long time waiting initially to be seen

Review titled Excellent experience

We made a referral for our daughter to be assessed for autism last July and we have just had a second appointment (from start to finish - 11 months). Every person who rang and who we saw were absolutely brilliant. They were helpful, friendly, understanding, patient and answered all of our questions. They were very kind and made our daughter feel as comfortable as they could during the assessment. We are really pleased at how quickly our appointments came through and how smooth the whole process had been.
