  1. Review titled All about the money

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 05 September 2024

Unfortunately the company did not take the wider picture or background of our child before making their “diagnosis” it took them a whole four minutes to deliberate and reach an outcome. Their answer was to medicate a child they had known for an hour, they do not follow guidelines set out by themselves or as mentioned by the national institute of health and care excellence. Not at all child focused, and it seems more about money then helping or supporting families.

  2. Review titled Thoughtful & quick service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

We only had to wait about 2 months to have 2 assessments booked. The admin team arranged both assessments for my 2 children on the same day and overlapping so we had minimal disruption. Very thoughtful

The process was well organised and very efficient. I was super impressed with the service and the speed at which the appointments were organised. All the professionals we met along the way were friendly, helpful and informative. You have helped our family a great deal!

  4. Review titled Great service, thank you!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

My son was offered a transfer to Psicon from our local nhs asd assessment wait list, as they were helping with the wait list in our area. I accepted this (in mid- April) and was quickly contacted by psicon to say they’d received our details. Very quickly we recieved a letter through the post with further details on their Asd assessment process, and links on the letter to an online questionnaire for both parents and school to complete. I found this really helpful and a much faster way of getting the information needed sent across. We had a bit of a wait for the school to do their part, but once we and the school had completed these questionnaires, we were phoned and offered the first assessment appointment (Ados) in our local area for mid-June. We had an email come through detailing what the appointment would look like, who would be there, what would happen etc. There were 2 women completing the Ados, they were both friendly and introduced themselves, one typed whilst the other engaged with my son. My son was reluctant to enter the room without me and didn’t want me to leave him in there alone, so they allowed me to sit in the room too at the side, which was nice of them, as it would’ve distressed my son too much to have pushed for him to be alone. We didn’t get any insight or feedback into how the Ados went, we expected this as on the letter it did say no feedback would be available at this time. We were offered the second part of the assessment process (online video call with paediatrician/psychiatrist) for the beginning of July, however this was cancelled due to the Dr having a family emergency (hope all is well now!) so this was rescheduled for the beginning of August. We had another email detailing what would happen in this appointment too, I found this helpful as I like to be able to prepare myself and our child for the what will happen. The Dr was very friendly and helpful. We were initially unsure how a video call appointment would work, but we just answered questions and had the opportunity to ask any questions we had. The Dr told us after the questions that the Ados assessment indicated our son was autistic and based off that, the other info we had sent them and the questions we have answered today, she could confirm an Asd diagnosis. She asked how we felt about it and gave us the chance to ask anything and also recommended, based off all the evidence, that we also seek an Adhd diagnosis for our son (we already have him on a wait list, but this was nice confirmation that we are doing the right thing) We are now awaiting the report and have been advised this may be 6-8 weeks. This does feel like quite a long time, but I’m glad we now have the Asd diagnosis confirmed, and the process was so smooth. They have said that a letter outlining the diagnosis can be sent to us whilst we await the report, so that might be helpful in the meantime. I’m so pleased with psicon and their service, anyone I spoke to on the phone was also lovely.

  5. Review titled Autism assessment

The whole process has happened quickly over a few months and my son has been diagnosed with autism so will hopefully start getting some help at his new secondary school. Lovely people and easy to talk to during his assessments.

  6. Review titled Abysmal service - really hurtful

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 23 August 2024

I received an official autism diagnosis from an NHS specialist at a local medical centre. The next day I received an email that appeared to be from the NHS offering me an assessment for autism. I thought this was strange - why would I need further assessments, I received my diagnosis yesterday. I replied to the message explaining that I had already been diagnosed and that I didn't think the assessment was needed - there must have been some sort of mistake or misunderstanding. I was then told that the only misunderstanding belonged to me - that there was no record of my diagnosis and that I was confused. It's around this stage I realise that I'm speaking to a private company, Psicon, not the NHS. I explain again, even more clearly, that there's been a crossed wire and I have already had a diagnosis. The Psicon employee replied by explaining that there was no way my diagnosis could be valid and that she needed to speak to my mum. My explanation wasn't valid (how could it be if I'm mentally ill) Psicon needed an explanation from a real person! They asked for consent to contact my family - I categorically refused to give my consent. My mum wouldn't be able to explain anything about this anyway. Besides, it's my diagnosis, speak to me! After I told them repeatedly not to contact my family I requested a contact number so I could call when I got back from work. When I got back from work Psicon were on the phone to my mother! Obviously I was very upset about this - I took the phone and demanded an explanation. All I was offered were distortions of what had been said - Psicon were adamant no breach of consent or confidentiality had occurred. I explained everything from the start for what felt like the fifth time that day. The woman I was speaking to would not accept that any confidentiality breach had occurred, despite having the email in which I specifically forbade the company from contacting my family open in front of her. When I went on to explain how distressed I was about having my diagnosis questioned, about having my capacity to understand what was going on questioned and having my consent & confidentiality violated the line manager I was speaking to literally burst out laughing! Whilst I was making a complaint to the company the following day it was explained to me that the call takers I'd been dealing with have no medical training whatsoever and no access to my medical records. Despite this total lack of qualification several of the people I'd spoken to had taken it upon themselves to tell me I had no diagnosis, I had no capacity, that I was confused and that I could not speak for myself as I was a mental health service user. If this is how a service specifically for autistics treats people, how on earth should I expect members of the public to respond to my diagnosis? Hurtful and inaccurate assumptions were made about me repeatedly simply because I said I'm autistic. If you want to experience ridicule and gaslighting, choose Psicon

  8. Review titled A really calm processe for ASD assessment.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Mrs Rebecca Hipple - Posted on 17 June 2024

They were really lovely both at booking the apt over the phone - really comprehensive explanation of what was to happen, answered all questions and then on the day of the assessment. Made my child feel as comfortable as they could. A really nice atmosphere for what is quite a nerve racking / emotional thing to have to go through

  9. Review titled Excellent service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Jennifer Foreman - Posted on 26 August 2024

Have Psicon Canterbury twice - for both my daughters. One with ASD and my older daughter most recently with ADHD. Efficient, friendly and very kind. Assessment was detailed and very happy with level of support and understanding. Information given to us was clear and the consultant was patient and went through any thing we did not understand. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a private assessment/diagnosis for their child.
