Had a nasty saliva gland removed yesterday. I cannot thank the William Harvey enough. From pre-op to post-op the experience was absolutely fantastic. The level of care was superb. Thank you all so very much. Gary

We have been here since 1.30 am it is now 03.50. There has been x 3 patients seen by the GP in this time How can it take so long to treat the very unwell patients like my elderly mother We have been advised we will probably need to go to A&E after and if we see the GP and wait another 10-12 hours before being seen hopefully by the correct clinician.

I am sorry to hear you've experienced a longer wait than you expected at the Urgent Treatment Centre earlier today. Both the UTC and Emergency Department are under pressure currently. Patients are seen according to clinical need and depending on the treatment needed this can take additional time. Your feedback will be passed to the Director of Nursing for Urgent and Emergency Care. I hope that your mother has now received the treatment she needed. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

I had an appointment to be fitted with a 24-hour heart monitor. I was seen ahead of time and everything was explained in a careful and thorough manner. The nursing staff were attentive and inspired confidence.

Review titled Disappointed

I am highly disappointed and disgusted in how you have changed the (rules) on children being allowed in to the ultrasound to see their new brother or sister, how dare you make that decision on who can and cannot be allowed into the room, it is the same old story with the nhs at the moment you’re going downhill fast, run by politics and money rather than the care and support that it should be and was until covid hit

My girlfriend had an appointment in March 2023. Not been given results from 24hr heart monitor, just been told they have put her down as Not attending appointment. Tried ringing number on letter & when picking options Nothing rings at all for option 2 or 3 & automated voice just says something kind of like Sorry no one was available to answer.

I am very sorry that your girlfriend has not received the results of her heart monitor and she was recorded as not attending. Something has clearly gone wrong. Can I ask your girlfriend, or you with her consent, to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on tel: 01227 783145 or email: ekh-tr.pals@nhs.net as they will be able to contact Cardiology to find out what has happened. I will also share your feedback with the service and ask them to look into the problems regarding the phone not being answered and options not working. I apologise that this has happened and we will try to resolve this once you have contacted PALS. Best wishes

Review titled A lack of feedback
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by John Cobbett - Posted on 23 July 2023
I was seen very rapidly after being referred by my GP but have now waited six weeks for the results from the William Harvey. THe GP suggested I contacted the Hospital and the switchboard twice put me through to the wrong Medical Secretary who did promise to refer my enquiry to the right department since which time I have heard nothing. The service was good but the feedback non existent.

Review titled Excellent care.
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Linda Thorogood - Posted on 11 February 2023
I attended A&E with chest pain. I was really scared! The Nursing, Medical, ECG, Radiography Phlebotomy and all Staff/Departments involved in my care could not have been more kind and professional. I was reassured, investigated thoroughly and treated for the pain. Ongoing investigations arranged. I cannot thank everyone enough for their treatment and support. I cannot recommend everyone highly enough. Arrived 16:00 Discharged 20:00. The question regarding same sex wards was not relevant to my visit. Thank you all!!!

Review titled Excellent Nursing and Doctors - Administrators not good
Rated 4 stars out of 5

Sadly I find it shocking that everytime I visit there are many smokers blatantly smoking in front of the non-smoking signs. Surely someone could stop this? I took a 91 year old with COPD into the hospital in a critical state and had to steer him through the smoke - it is totally unacceptable. However, the service in A&E was very good and very prompt. Unfortunately every time he was moved I told each station that I was the main contact, I gave my telephone number and name and every day I was told that this information was missing. When my friend became critical the Dr. did not have me on their notes as a contact so when I went to visit and was told he had COVID I was shocked. When I questioned this with the staff on the desk they didn't seem bothered at all and just shrugged their shoulders. A 91 year old with COVID is not something to shrug your shoulders about. I also think it's detrimental having a change of staff all the time - I haven't seen the same staff more than once in a week of him being here and having to explain everything every time is tiring. Also after staying all night the toilets were unclean and there was no sign of security in the foyer.

Thank you for sharing this feedback. We are looking at ways to discourage people smoking outside of the entrance to A&E and the main entrance. Like all NHS sites we are required to be smoke free, but unfortunately the signs do not stop a minority of people from doing this and we are not allowed to provide smoking shelters on NHS sites. I will share your feedback with the site manager. Your comments about giving your contact details to the staff, but these not being recorded are of concern. We normally contact the person's next of kin, or the person they have asked to be contacted. I'm sorry that this didn't happen. If you want us to look into this in more detail please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on tel: 01227 783145 or email: ekh-tr.pals@nhs.net. PALS are open Monday to Friday 9am to 4pm, except bank holidays. If you phone and get the voicemail please leave a message and the team will get back to you. You can also make them aware of which ward you found the toilets not to be clean and which ward it was where the staff seemed unconcerned that your friend had Covid. There are security staff on site at all times, but they may have been called to deal with a situation. Please be assured if you'd asked a staff member for assistance they would have tried to help. Our staff work shifts and with the pressure on our Emergency Departments we have to move staff to where there is the greatest need. These factors make it a challenge and whilst we cannot always guarantee the same staff care for a patient throughout the length of their stay, every patient has a named nurse and they are happy to update a patient's relative or named contact.
