  1. Review titled Smoking

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Lance Inskip - Posted on 13 September 2024

I am a smoker but I am appalled by the amount of people smoking and vaping near the front entrance and on the benches by the parking machine, I’ve just seen reviews from 2014 (ten years ago) complaining about smoking on site, and it looks as though nothing has been done about it, and staff and security do nothing to challenge people smoking on site, even though that is part of the policy. The reviews in 2014 also suggested smoking areas away from the buildings, but according to the hospital reply, this was shot down by health professional colleagues who preferred a no smoking policy - which is fine, but why have the policy and then do nothing about it? Like I said I am a smoker, but smoking on hospital grounds is unacceptable, and it appears nothing has been done about it (in ten years) so when are you going to grow a backbone and start telling people not to smoke out the front?

Dear Mr Inskip, Thank you for passing on your feedback. You are absolutely right regarding smoking in our Trust. This is something that actually is being extensively looked at right now . My line manager has been pushing for the Trust to install smoking shelters and I agree this should have happened a long time ago. No patients should have to walk through people smoking when they leave and enter our hospital grounds. If you would like to talk to my team further surrounding this please contact us via our email address which is ekhuft.patientvoice@nhs.net Kind regards Josh Page (Patient Feedback Coordinator)

  2. Review titled A & E - Good; Majors Assessment Unit - not so much

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Tony Frost - Posted on 04 September 2024

I attended the A & E at 5pm on 1st September and was dealt with efficiently as they were not all that busy when I arrived. Eventually I was transferred to the Majors Assessment Unit at 8pm. This unit is obviously a recent addition as the signage to locate it is temporary and it was obviously recently converted from an observation ward. The unit was very much overworked and there were long wait times on uncomfortable chairs arranged around a large room obviously converted from a ward. I waited 17 hours to be assessed and eventually sent home, but had I been admitted there would have been a wait of 2 days 11 hours for a bed; all the time in these unsuitable chairs. There were people sleeping on the floor and on the chairs who were waiting for beds. In the area where the consultations took place there were a few beds but even a very elderly lady who was very distressed was denied use of them. If wait times in this area are going to be this long - hours and possibly days - then the seating needs to be improved, possibly a TV showing - for example - a news channel with no sound on, a vending machine or two, fully functioning toilets (1 out of 2 was out of order), and the windows in the waiting area changed from frosted glass to clear glass so the outside world can be seen. The staff were very good, kind, and understanding but very overworked. However the surroundings were claustrophobic, tatty, and looked temporary.

  4. Review titled My experience was 100% positive

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by PollyVinall - Posted on 11 September 2024

I checked in through A & E and once going through the normal expected long waiting times to see the nurses, doctors and receiving results I was admitted. I can only say that my short stay at William Harvey hospital on the Kings Ward was exceptional. The staff from the doctors, nurses, carers, cleaners and the waiting staff that took our orders for food and served us, were amazing, so very caring, friendly and there was a feel of a personal touch. The women that I shared the ward with were so welcoming, supportive of each other while each one of them having gone through life changing operations and then having to adapt. So inspiring. Finally the air bed was the best, it made the stay so more comfortable. This is the NHS at its best.

  5. Review titled Very Disappointing

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Nikki - Posted on 12 August 2024

I regret, I cannot say that my four days' experience at the WHH (A&E, then in the Ward) was an eperience I would recall with pleasure. Therefore, I, personally, would not recommend this hospital to friends or family!

  7. Review titled Superb treatment

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Tony Buttler - Posted on 13 August 2024

The treatment I received from the time that the support volunteer arrived in advance of the ambulance on the afternoon of 27 July to my discharge on 6 August was superlative. Every one of the medical staff that attended me performed in the most professional way and cheerful manner. Absolutely brilliant. Thank you.

  9. Review titled Totally useless

by Paula Bottone - Posted on 23 August 2024

I was in a mental crisis last night. I was phoned by a doctors and was told that I should go to the William Harvey hospital. I arrived and was triaged and was told that I was to have a wound dressed and speak to a member of the mental health team. What a complete load of rubbish. I was waiting and kept on asking and was told the doctor would be 10 minutes. I am also autistic and have adhd. This was not taken into consideration. 6 and a half hours later, the mental health room, which happens to be in the rapid assessment area ,began to fill up with patients which I was not comfortable, so without questioning I left the hospital and returned home. It is now 8.50am and I'm feeling worse than before I went in. The hospital is a disgrace and should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. I will never trust them again and it's an absolute shambles

  10. Review titled Caring a&e female doctor

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 22 July 2024

We visited a&e yesterday 21/07 (it was my birthday!) We saw a young female doctor at the end of her long shift. She spent around 30 minutes, listening, talking and recommending treatment for my long illness. I had recently spent three weeks at whh & four days at k&c. She was caring, warm & professional throughout, a real credit to the NHS! Thank you young woman, your honest & kind support, really makes a difference, you’re a credit to your profession. I hope that you had a pleasant evening. Many thanks.
