  1. Review titled Outstanding care and service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Sally Gibson - Posted on 04 January 2023

Thank you for the most incredible care and practice we experienced when my mother was brought in by ambulance to A&E on the evening of 10th of December. Every single member of staff was incredible and so supportive and caring, particularly the amazing Doctor who ultimately had to give my sister and I terrible news. Thank you for your incredible service, and for being so thoughtful and caring.

We spent 10 hours in A&E with my son having a mental health episode. All the staff from the security guards to nurses were so helpful, friendly and caring. Thank you!

  3. Review titled Bad service

Rated 1 star out of 5

I visited WGH on the 27/12/22 A&E department for my child which is 5 years old had fever for last 2 months( prior to that I have taken my child to see 111 out of gp service, A&E doctor and my own gp already) no one has done anything, not any test or anything to find out about the high temperature ) when I visited on the 27/12/22 I have explained to the children A&E doctor everything all the previous visit which I made to see the doctors, the doctor seems not really care, I asked the doctor to take some test and find out why my child keep getting high temperature for last 2 months, she said it’s virus fever her ear got red no point taking any test and they were planned to give her ear spray and send her home, but my child heart rate was raised high even with out fever , so the doctor went and talked to her boss and he explained that it’s not a good thing to send them home with high heart rate and after that done some blood test, so still that doctor not taken any swab test to see any other virus to find out, around 11 pm informed me they are going to give some antibiotics and check her heart beat and we need to stay at hospital tonight, after that around 12:30 am they started the antibiotics and moved us to the ward at 1:30 am and we settled there, suddenly around 4:15 am the nurse wake me up and said my child heart rate is gone down to normal level and we can go home now, I was shocked how can I go at 4 am? I said I can’t go and I will go in the morning, when it’s morning come my daughter heart start beating faster and high temperature, they were asked me to wait for other 3 hrs to observe her, finally around 10 am we left the hospital but they asked us to come for antibodies on the same day evening We gave her antibodies for 2 days but her temperature never gone down she always had temperatures above 39. So we was worried I told my concern to the nurse which I have to say thanks to her she is the only one listen to me, she talked to the doctor again and the doctor come and talk to me and decided to do more test and asked us to stay in the hospital. We stayed there again done some swab test and blood test and X-ray, her. Swap test came positive with the virus which is make her severely ill, she had antibodies after that and got discharged after 2 days. When I asked the discharge summery they just gave me just the admission and discharge details. When I requests to get my daughter blood test results details the nurse kept saying doctors only have access and they are busy right now I waited nearly 2 hrs they kept said doctor is busy I got very angry and I left the hospital. While I’m at hospital the nurses was rude and not really helpful at all, if u ask anything they just keep saying they are extremely busy, I had very bad experience all over the children A&E and children ward, this is not the first time and they can’t keep blaming covid sort of staff, I had very bad experience with other kids who was Admitted here 2021. Overall 0

  4. Review titled Excellent care in difficult circumstances

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I have been attending “hot” clinic in the ambulatory care department for treatment of a serious infection following surgery for cancer. The care I received was outstanding. I attended over a 6 week period and was treated by the same nurses who showed their concern and consulted colleagues when the infection wasn’t improving. They worked hard to think about how best to treat it and the problem is now resolved. They were kind, thoughtful and caring. The staff at the hospital are working under considerable pressure and I am very grateful for the care I have received.

  5. Review titled Life saving and Caring

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Sue Smith - Posted on 12 December 2022

I would like to thank the Ambulance Service for getting my husband to A&E & the care they showed me at home & in Resus Unit. To all the staff of Resus, whose expertise, depth of understanding of his complex medical needs saved his life. And the personal care to me, the wife, keeping me fully informed of diagnosis, possible prognosis & problems to be overcome, which he did. They also looked after my brother who waited in the corridor of A & E, his choice, while I sat with my husband for 10 hours, while they continued actions to save his life. Please pass on our thanks, mine & my brothers, to the Portering staff, often unsung heroes. He waited, his choice in the corridor entrance to A&E, very drafty, so that when I came out of Resus Unit, I could instantly see him. We did not know at that time that my husband would survive. The Portering staff went above & beyond to look after & out for him, as he waited for me. They chatted to him, found him a chair to sit on as he declined going to the A&E waiting room, so that I could instantly find him in a hurry. Got him cups of tea, & having escorted my husband to CT Scan dept at the beginning of his care, when the CT Scan person, came out hours later & found my brother still waiting for me. He got him a blanket so that he could keep warm. On leaving the hospital they wished us well & a safe journey home. The next day when visiting my husband in AAU, the porters recognised us, asked with genuine concern how he was. It is heart warming to have been so well looked after, cared about by all staff but especially from staff like Porters, who are often unseen employees. Thank you. Sue & brother

  6. Review titled Very poor service

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 25 December 2022

Was waiting over 6 hours for them to see my young baby, my baby’s heart rate was fast and my baby had a high temperature and I was not offered any paracetamol. I had to ask for paracetamol to be given. There’s no where to breastfeed your baby and the doctor that was supposedly supposed to be seeing my baby was chilling behind me at the computer putting his feet up for the longest time before he saw any patients. The doctor prior to that was just talking away to staff and then went home. The sister on the ward did not even know what to do. Was very appalled by the service.

  7. Review titled Received no reassurance

    by Us3less - Posted on 11 November 2022

Having waited nearly a year to be seen after a GP referral for a concerning mole and mark growing on face... and all the anxiety that comes with it, I was met by a dermatologist who seemed to have no care, compassion or kindness whatsover. When you are at your most vulnerable, told to undress and wearing a mask (it was my face which was the problem) and receive no reassurance and made to feel like you are a waste of time is upsetting. I understand what a full check is and am grateful for that, but I felt like they had made their mind up about me beforehand and judged incorrectly. I was told to stop picking my skin as they clearly felt that was the problem... and had no problem expressing that. No consideration to the bleeding, scabbing cycle that occurs, increase growth of the mole or growing mark under my eye or other mole appearing as a black mark on my face. Zero patient care.To have waited so long and then be told you can be referred on for a biopsy if you must like you're being a difficult person rather than someone who has waited a year believing it could be cancerous. Awful awful treatment of a person, and the seconds taken to look briefly is far from reassuring. Only the nurse also present seemed to have any care or knowlege how to treat someone in this situation.

  8. Review titled Great Service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by A Ahmed - Posted on 09 December 2022

I would like to begin by giving a special thank you to the midwife who looked after me from when I arrived at the hospital and until I gave birth. She was professional, calm, reassuring ,friendly and a great asset to the NHS and hospital midwifery team. I would also like to give a special thank you to the trainee midwifes who assisted , they also were very supportive and helped me tremendously. They will be great midwives in the future . The midwife team overall was outstanding and very hard working. Everyone working in the department was polite, friendly, reassuring and professional. I required an assisted delivery and would also like to give a special thank you to the surgical team, the nurses and all the members of staff who assisted . Their professionalism was outstanding.

  9. Review titled Lonely and Unknown

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Samantha - Posted on 10 March 2023

I have birth to my daughter at Watford Hospital and had to have a c-section. My daughter and I both got an infection and had to stay in after care for a few days. No one showed me where any of the amenities were and no one told me anything that was going on. I just kept getting woken up to be given medication which I had no idea what it was for. I'd get introduced to a midwife and told she was caring for me just for it to be a different person every time. No one kept me informed on what was going on and any time I asked for help I felt like I was being a burden. I was left one night holding my baby trying to feed her whilst also trying to hold in my cannula which was coming out and no one came around regular enough to help, I didn't have a spare hand to call anyone to help and was left crying and unable to move, once someone did come round they told me they would go get another midwife and I was left waiting ages yet again and she didn't even take the baby off me so I could at least free up one of my hands. One night my daughter just wouldn't sleep unless I held her and I was fighting to stay awake until my husband could come visit in the morning, my husband had to then tell them to leave me alone and let me rest. My husband then had to keep chasing midwives around to get me released from the hospital. I kept getting told I was being taken off antibiotics only for another midwife to come round and keep given them to me. My cannula kept getting taped up and then another midwife would put it in again and another one would tape it up again. No one communicated with each other or me. It was very daunting as a first time mum.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I cannot thank the A&E, CCU, Pharmacy and AC Ward staff for their excellent care, dedication and professionalism. The personal attention they give to patients , all with a positive and friendly manner, is second to none. I've not been to Watford previously and feel confident in saying you're in very good hands
