Review titled Amazing People
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Margaret Brown - Posted on 23 September 2024
I went into accident and having fainting fits. I Refered to a&e and was seen immediately have anxiety issues I was put at ease as it became apparent there was a serious issue. Hours later I had a pacemaker fitted. The professional behaviour of all concerned was outstanding. I felt very much cared for and looked after. I can't thank the ward staff, doctors and everyone in the Coronary Cath Lab. You will always be in my heart ❤

I attended the hospital recently with a severe case of dehydration and very high blood pressure. Although I was in quite a poor condition the staff were very helpful and understanding. Thanks to everyone’s help I was able to go home after about 36 hours. A big thank you to all in A&E and Olen Ward.

Review titled Avoid at all costs
Rated 1 star out of 5

Wasn’t believed. Wasn’t listened to. Questions put to consultants have gone unanswered. Nature of this department is that vulnerable women pass through their doors daily, but there is little respect. One treatment option offered, when there are other options. Was discharged simply because my choice as a patient wasn’t respected. Three years into suffering, no further forward.

Review titled Incredible service from the moment go
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Cara Chambers - Posted on 07 July 2024
I attended hospital last night as I am pregnant and my fetal movements had reduced. It was obviously a scary time for us. From the moment go the receptionist was kind, warm and personable. She explained the monitoring process and I felt like she really enjoyed her job and interacting with people. Coming down to monitoring I was seen by a lovely nurse who decided to admit me for further monitoring as a precaution. It was a 2 hour wait until the next text and she made sure I had adequate drinks and snacks and a comfortable bed to catch some rest in. She explained what she was looking for and why she had admitted me and even explained the situation to my Husband who we sent home to get some proper rest. She was happy with the 2nd round of monitoring but wanted some extra time just to make extra sure. I was happy to oblige and felt that me and my unborn son were in safe hands. Upon discharge I decided to get an Uber home and the nurse ensured I got into it OK which was over and above, but also quite daunting as a lone woman in the early hours of the morning. At no point was I made to feel a hypochondriac, or a drain of resources. The staff were obviously busy, but I was met with nothing but kindness, politeness and professionalism. Previously my experiences of NHS practices have been mixed, but last night gave me a sneak peak, and reassured me of the care I'd be under when I give birth in a few months. Thank you to those I encountered on the labour ward. You're all stars!

Review titled Room for improvement

The first thing I will say is the staff who cared for me whilst I remained in A&E were without exception, a shining example of our NHS, however I first entered the A&E dept at approx 10:40pm and was taken through by the Doctor at 1:04am. My disappointment is concerning the length of time I was left in the dept. At the time of writing this I have been in the A&E dept for 6hrs and 2mins which I understand is well in excess of the target time for transfer to a ward, which Is what is due to happen to myself. Again at this point, having spoken to a nurse, there is no outlook for when a will be allocated a bed. This unfortunately ruins all the hard work the staff do. Could you please look into why this continues to occur. I say this as this is not the first time I have experienced such a delay whilst awaiting transfer to a ward Kind Regards

Review titled Exceptional
Rated 5 stars out of 5

I had an emergency visit by ambulance to A and E directly from my village surgery on June 19th because my pulse had dropped to 32 and I had a complete heart block. I had immediate attention, monitoring my symptoms, keeping me comfortable and reassuring me. I was added to the list for the Cath lab and had a pacemaker fitted at 5pm. Everything was explained to me and the procedure went smoothly ahead. I then stayed one night in the ward and was discharged the next day. At every stage I was treated with great care, compassion and humour, every member of staff with whom I had contact showed interest and kindness. I very soon became aware of the support and respect that that the staff had for every patient and each other whatever their grade or their duties. The speed of action was amazing and gave me an insight into the high standards of working. Follow up has been delivered with the same concern and assessment of the current situation which is very satisfactory. Thank you to all I met, I am fortunate to live near such an excellent hospital.

Review titled Needs improvement

I waited in A&E for approximately 12 hours and was told the hospital was preparing a bed. However, hours later, I was still sitting in A&E when I asked the reception for an update. Having waited several hours, they could not provide any information and were genuinely rude. There were several patients clearly in distress, crying, screaming with pain, and throwing up and not once did anyone check on them, including one patient who was seemingly passed out in the dept for over two hours before hospital staff checked on their well-being. However, one unempathetic receptionist sat and sang joyfully at the reception desk while many patients were distressed.
