  1. Review titled Caring treatment

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Ann - Posted on 24 April 2023

I have recently had a lump investigated and the staff at the centre were really kind and caring and made me feel at ease at the initial check and the follow up mammogram and ultrasound scan. Thankfully what I have is a cyst so that was a relief.

  2. Review titled Outstanding Care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Tracy Wells - Posted on 16 May 2023

I can not thank the hospital enough for their care and support when my husband was admitted. The kindness and empathy shown to me and my husband by all nurses and doctors was humbling. All staff involved in my husbands care, paramedics, auxiliary nurses, porters, nurses, sisters, doctors, consultants, surgeons treated my husband with care, dignity and respect every step of the way. Their hard work, motivation, and shear grit and determination was admirable. Unfortunately, it wasn't a happy ending, but the communication, professionalism and commitment was second to none.

  3. Review titled Procedure was totally painless thanks to excellent technique.

    by eaterpk68 - Posted on 20 March 2023

I had a punch biopsy performed on my nose at John Parkes Unit. I was very anxious about the procedure having had it done before (in another hospital) as the anaesthetic injection was painful. The doctor & nurse were both so kind & reassuring & the procedure was totally painless thanks to excellent technique. I was so relieved & will feel much more confident if further treatment is needed.

  4. Review titled Care for my father

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Mark Rumbelow - Posted on 03 April 2023

Comments:Just a very big thank you for the way my father (now sadly deceased) was treated when he was taken to A and E on Thursday 31st March. The staff were extremely courteous and professional in what was a very busy and demanding shift. End of life is always difficult but was handled with the care it deserves. Many thanks again to all the staff involved. Regards Mark Rumbelow and family

  5. Review titled Communication

Rated 4 stars out of 5

Cannot fault the Nursing staff, However in terms of communication concerning relative in hospital extremely poor, including being unable to get through to the ward on numerous occasions when attempting to phone no one answers . In essence I really don’t know what is happening with my relative care particularly as I do not live nearby.

  6. Review titled Swift and professional treatment

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by June Palmer - Posted on 07 March 2023

Attended breast clinic on 2 week referral following concerns about pain in my breast. I was seen by a consultant, had a mammogram and an ultrasound all within an hour. I was treated with care and professional behaviour throughout and given feedback at each stage. Fortunately nothing was found and I left feeling very relieved but also very grateful for such a speedy and efficient service. We are very fortunate to have such an effective provision. Thank you.

  8. Review titled Lack of duty of care

    by inspirenh89 - Posted on 22 February 2023

My stepmother who is over 100 and lives at home by herself fell and was taken after an 8 hour wait to Torbay hospital in severe hip pain. No hip fracture was identified and despite her remaining in severe pain she was discharged home later the same day with a zimmer frame with no package of care at all. In fact she had to take her own taxi home, costing her £50, which for a very old lady is expensive. No-one has assessed her from the Dartmouth medical practice and there is no follow up and it concerns me she will fall again as she has failing eyesight. I took the 500 mile round trip at the weekend and took her to the optician to have her eyes checked. It appears she may have had a TIA causing her to lose balance, but the hospital were disinterested in her eyesight, and just sent her home, in a taxi with no care package which to me shows a complete lack of duty of care. I feel someone medical should assess her properly and arrange an OT assessment at the very least and help her financially to obtain care help in the home. How do we organise this for her? Is this through her GP surgery?

  9. Review titled Receptionist Angel

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 19 February 2023

Receptionist, K was so helpful and attentive in my hour of need. She organised a pharmacist to attend and dispense prescribed drugs for my dying mum in law when I had searched fruitlessly out of hours. No pharmacists are open on a Sunday evening in Devon! So thank you K for your kind assistance!

  10. Review titled Compassionate and caring.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Sally - Posted on 01 March 2023

My husband was eventually referred to the palliative care team. At this stage, he was unable to make decisions for himself. I expressed my wishes and fears. I was listened to carefully and my suggestion to change morphine to another form of pain relief was immediately implemented. My husband has an extreme reaction to morphine. It makes him delusional. The team didn't patronise me and they were very honest about his chances of survival. At the same time, they didn't dismiss my (unrealistic) belief that he would live. I had already been made aware that the staff would not resuscitate him if he had another heart attack. The reasons for this were clearly explained to me. As a result, I understood that it would not be in his best interests to do this even though I desperately wanted him to live. My husband had always said that he trusted me to make the "right decision" if these circumstances ever arose. I believe, with the help of the staff, I was able to do what he had entrusted me with. My thanks to the palliative team for their care, support and for ensuring my husband's last hours were as comfortable and dignified as possible. I would also like to thank them for giving me the time I needed to discuss his condition and its management.
