Dear Gary, Thank you for taking the time to post your comments regarding the experience your mother received. We are very sorry to hear that you feel she did not receive the standard of care that we normally expect. It is difficult to comment on your specific case without your details and knowing which department she visited. If you wish to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on free phone 0800 073 0510 or email dgft.pals@nhs.net we would happily look into your concerns and share with senior members of staff. I had a recent experience through the surgical day case unit , from arrival ,to surgery, to transfer to the ward , the lead nurse and her staff were kind , caring and listened to how I felt ,they gave five star care to all . The surgeon and anaesthetist explained everything in detail and saw me on the ward prior to discharge. b1 staff were amazing .

  3. Review titled Hard working and kind

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Lesley Price - Posted on 12 November 2023

Initially admitted briefly to same day emergency care, then acute medical1 and c5. In all these wards the staff - nursing and all support staff - worked hard and were very kind despite having so little time to do everything. They noticeably supported each other when a lot was happening at once and their routine was disrupted. They were adept at dealing with different sorts of patients. The treatment advised by the doctors turned me round in under a week so thanks also to them when they were so busy.

  4. Review titled Poor experience

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 15 November 2023

Our son went into A & E having collapsed, been sick, and being very confused, he didn’t even know his own name. The process in A & E is chaotic with people being left in the waiting room for many hours, sometimes days, because there are no beds. They were very slow putting him on antibiotics, which did sort out the infection he had. The reason they were slow was because there was nowhere for him to go. They eventually put him on a reclining seat in A & E and then into a cubicle after about 24 hours. Once he was treated he recovered quite well. The system would work much better if patients were treated quickly and either moved to beds or sent home. The worst part of the experience was that they allowed him to escape in the night despite promising us that they would supervise him. He walked about 2 miles from hospital towards home, he was very confused so anything could have happened. The hospital didn’t even report him to the police as missing! It was down to his girlfriend to report it once she knew. Thankfully the police found him safely. The other difficult part of the experience was the way the staff at the hospital spoke with him and his girlfriend. They practically accused them of drug abuse, domestic violence, mental health issues. It was clear that they were looking for a reason to send him home rather than treating him. I appreciate that they are under pressure but need to treat patients and family with respect. This was not just our experience, others in the waiting room had longer waits and were treated very badly. Overall our son was in the A & E waiting room for about 10 hours and in A & E department for about 36 hours.

  5. Review titled Long wait

Rated 4 stars out of 5

Maternity Dept is terribly understaffed. My daughter has been in 5 days to be induced …. very slow process. Still waiting for waters to be broken as she is in a queue! Even though she is high risk. I cannot fault the staff they are excellent and do everything they can but unfortunately there is just not enough staff to cope with demand. The delays due to understaffing are causing stress, frustration and upset to patients and their partners when this should be such a happy positive time. I strongly feel staffing issues need to be addressed asap on the maternity ward.

  6. Review titled Great service, but some areas lacking

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 30 November 2023

My wife was induced but ended up having an emergency c-section. The midwives throughout induction were amazing, 10/10. We were there for four days and they could not have been more helpful and caring. However my wife had an emergency c-section and the aftercare wasn’t up to the standard I expected. I wasn’t allowed to stay as it was around 11pm so past visiting time by the time we got up to the ward, but my wife had little to no help cleaning herself or changing/feeding little one. Considering she was recovering from major abdominal surgery, and was still regaining feeling in her legs, I expected there to be more help for her. Either give the women the help they need after a c-section, or let partners stay to give them help instead.

  7. Review titled A very and pleasant and content stay

    by Annette947 - Posted on 27 October 2023

I brought myself into Russell Hall recently with severe abdominal pain, was seen in 15 minutes by a doctor and sent straight to ward B5 for further investigation. A cat scan was ordered upon finding a problem with my bowel, and I was admitted to ward B3. I have got to say the nursing staff couldn't do enough for me. My visit and stay as been a wonderful experience, I have a phobia about needles but even that was no problem

  9. Review titled Great midwives!

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anna Darbinson - Posted on 22 September 2023

I can’t express enough gratitude for the exceptional care provided by the midwifery team during the birth of my baby girl. From the moment I walked in, I felt safe and well looked after, creating an environment where I could truly embrace a positive birth experience filled with beautiful memories. The two midwives who delivered my baby were not only skilled professionals but also incredibly kind, caring, and attentive. Their dedication to their work is truly remarkable. I sincerely hope that their exceptional care is acknowledged and appreciated by every expectant parent who walks through the doors of the maternity ward. Thank you for making this journey so special and ensuring the arrival of our little one was met with such care and compassion. You’ve left a mark on our hearts and memories to cherish.

  10. Review titled Poor Hygiene

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Helen Shaw - Posted on 23 September 2023

3 hours ago I used the toilet with A and E and there was no liquid soap in bottle. I reported this to receptionist so they could rectify issue. I have just been to toilet again and it still hasn’t been refilled which I find completely disgusting as well as being totally unhygienic. This place is full of patients many of whom are using the facilities and then unable to wash their hands. I have reported the issue again and receptionist doesn’t appear to be overly bothered.
