  1. Review titled Mammogram side effects

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 17 April 2024

I had my first mammogram followed by ultrasound at the age of 40. The speed of getting the checks done and the staff was amazing. However the mammogram procedure stretched my breast skin and after 8 months my breast is not as it used to be. No one warned me about this. I wish the mammogram procedure could be gentler or if I had a choice of ultrasound only.

Dear Patient, Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to read of your concerns. We are continuously working to improve the care and experience our patients receive. Your feedback regarding your discomfort during your procedure will be fed back to our radiology department for future learning. A mammogram is an X-ray examination to show the breast tissue. It is carried out using one of our digital mammography units using a low dose of ionising radiation. Mammograms remain one of the most efficient methods of detecting early breast cancer and NICE Guidelines state that those who are over 40 who need urgent diagnostic tests, should have a bilateral mammogram followed by an ultrasound where indicated. Unfortunately, whilst the compression can be uncomfortable for patients, it is vital to the image quality required, increasing the contrast, immobilising the patient effectively to prevent movement and sharpness and reducing the glandular dose. All patients attending the department for a mammogram and/or breast ultrasound should have received a copy of the ‘Having a Mammogram’ or ‘Breast Ultrasound’ information leaflet with their appointment letter. We sincerely apologise if this did not occur. We thank you for sharing your feedback. Should you wish to discuss your experience in further detail please contact our Patient Advice Liaison service on email Rsc-tr.pals@nhs.net or contact number 01483402757. Thank you. With kind regards from Elaine Kavanagh, Matron for Accreditation and Patient Experience

  2. Review titled Great surgery

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Had excellent surgical care for hiatus hernia repair carried out as emergency. I am surprised that there has been no post operation follow up or check either from surgical team or dietician. It's as though I never existed. However I do appreciate the stress and workload o.f everyone concerned

  3. Review titled Excellent treatment

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Hazel Janetta Davies - Posted on 18 March 2024

Staff v helpful and efficient and understanding. I was admitted unexpectedly. I waited hours (as everyone else) did. However I am 80+ and sitting on extremely hard chairs in a tight space is unpleasant. I had my first drip sitting on a chair in a corridor(unpleasant). Staff in emergency ward overnight excellent. Bathroom was a disgrace (sorry) nowhere to put anything but the floor. Nothing to hand for a shower (ie hooks on door several steps away on a concrete floor and I am unsteady on my feet) 3rd world sad to say. Discharge pharmacist was brilliant. Enabled me to see my husband who brought me emergency night clothes to the entrance to outside steps to avoid him (84) walking too far from where he had parked in the road.. Not your fault I know but nevertheless an unpleasant experience for him without the help of the phharmacist

  4. Review titled Grateful thanks

I was treated in A & E for on 5 Aug pm for a facial impact /head injury involving lacerations and the need for sutures and x-ray and eye checks. The service was impressive. Efficient, thorough, empathetic and altogether highly professional. I was referred to the Eye Clinic for a check and received a prompt call the next day for an appointment where again the treatment was all of the above. Please express my grateful thanks to the team involved.

  5. Review titled Excellent Surgeon and his Team.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Martin McLeod - Posted on 27 July 2023

I was recently Admitted to have a Tumour removed from my Oesophegus. Every step of the procedure and the activities that would take place after the surgery were exactly as described by my surgeon and his team prior to my admission. Once i was awake my Surgeon visited me several times a day to check on my condition and kept both my wife and I up to date and advised with the next steps. At all times the team were professional and made me feel I was important and not just another patient. I was extremely nervous about the procedure but the team also helped build my confidence. Without doubt the Oesophogo-Gastric Surgery Team are not only a credit to the NHS but also the Healthcare profession in General. The Communication Skills, Interpersonal Skills, Honesty, amongst other traits of this team are second to none. A big thank you to all of you from my wife and I. You have given us Hope.

I just wanted to express my immense gratitude to the wonderful team who work tirelessly in the Hascombe Ward. I wish I could mention them all by name as they are truly lovely, caring people. My daughter, Sydney, was looked after so well by them all and I feel very lucky that she was admitted under their care. I wanted to write in and highlight what an amazing, caring and hardworking team they are. Many thanks again to all involved.

  8. Review titled Great care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Marie Tonks - Posted on 17 July 2023

I was admitted as an emergency and had surgery 2 hours after my CT scan. Wonderful care by surgical team. Was then transferred to Compton Ward. Wonderful nurses and excellent care. Only negatives I did not take to the food at all so did hardly eat for 3 days and bathroom facilities very limited. However, this is obviously not as important as the medical care which was excellent

  9. Review titled Great care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Lynette Lowthian - Posted on 26 July 2023

We just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone at the hospital who helped my husband this morning. He woke with a very painful wrist after tripping over a wire and falling on his hand yesterday. I called the hospital for advice as I was unsure if A&E would even be open, or any doctors or radiologists would be available to treat him. A very cheery receptionist informed us that, yes, of course the A&E Department was open - it’s open 24 hours - and to bring him in as soon as possible to be assessed. It was lovely to hear such a kind and helpful voice on the other end of the line, instead of a robot. On arrival at the hospital, we were quickly directed to A&E where another very pleasant receptionist took our details and let us know that my husband would soon be triaged, followed by a wait of up to 40 minutes to see a doctor and possibly 2-3 hours wait should he need an x-ray and a further consultation. You did exactly as promised on the tin! It turned out that my husband had broken his wrist and he was waiting for me, with his plaster in place, considerably less than 3 hours after we had arrived. The staff were, without exception, kind and helpful, not to mention thoroughly efficient. We were surprised and delighted, after all the negative feedback regarding hospital care and the strikes involving nurses, consultants and radiologists. Please do say thanks to everyone involved from us. And feel free to use our comments in any capacity that helps, including media/social media.

  10. Review titled Excellent unit

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Lynne Brown - Posted on 03 August 2023

I attended minor injuries having burnt my thumb quite badly on steam, from a microwave packet that I was opening. The nurse I saw was friendly and reassuring whilst she dealt with and dressed the burn. Care instructions were given and I was told to return in two days which was a Saturday. Again I received the same excellent treatment. We are so lucky to have this facility in Haslemere seven days a week and I’m grateful to the staff for providing this.
