Had a fall in Lancaster and walked into AE and was treated very quickly in the minor injuries unit. Staff were very kind and efficient. Thank you.

  2. Review titled Extremely grateful

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Glynis Wendy Hilling - Posted on 08 August 2024

I visited the dermatology department a lancaster royal infirmary yesterday. From the moment I arrived, the lady in reception, the doctor and the nursing staff all made me feel extremely welcome. I had two visiting specialist nurses with me and they were very impressed how friendly and knowledgable everybody was. I have been really nervous to attend hospital for biopsies, but the friendliness of the staff at lancaster always puts me at ease when I arrive. Please thank everybody who helped me yesterday. It’s lovely to know that with a rare condition, I have help locally rather than travel miles for my day to day care. I also know that any treatment I receive is necessary treatment. It said on here I cannot mention names so I will have to rely on the people concerned knowing this is for them The only criticism I have is that it is so difficult to find somewhere on the websites just say something positive about the hospital visits. It’s taken me ages to find this page. It seems it’s very easy to complain but not easy to put something nice. When I clicked on find a local hospital service near me, it took me to preston and my postcode is lancaster. I just wonder how many people give up before they can find this page. Also, it does not allow capital letters and it’s nearly impossible to use speech to type without it putting in capital letters. Please make this more disabled user friendly. Some of us cannot use our hands to type

  3. Review titled Excellent Service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Margaret - Posted on 07 August 2024

I attended A and E today and was referred to the minor medical unit. All staff were very helpful and I only waited a few minutes to be triaged. I waited about 10 minutes to see a Doctor which is very good. The Doctor I saw was professional, exceptionally thorough in obtaining all the details about my eye problem and courteous. A brilliant service.

  5. Review titled Exceptional team

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Paula D - Posted on 04 June 2024

Excellent communication. Seamless in their teamwork which gave me confidence when I was scared. Very reassuring about the procedure and what to expect. Informative at the appropriate level of detail. Respected my privacy and dignity at all times. Superbly included the students in what they were all doing - looked like a great learning environment. At the end of the procedure the Dr even drew a simple diagrammed to aid understanding which was much appreciated. Everyone explained next steps really clearly. Although I could see how busy the department was, it was friendly and kind. The nurses were informative and made the ending of the appointment make sense rather than feeling rushed. Thank you to all.

  6. Review titled Main switchboard

Rated 3 stars out of 5

    by D Robinson - Posted on 19 June 2024

I have telephoned the main switchboard this morning on 9 occasions over 30 minutes and on 9 occasions it has rung out and cut off. When I finally got a response I was told they were busy. As the main general hospital serving a huge population I find this banal answer quite frustrating and unacceptable. This does not inspire confidence. Vey disappointed with the main switchboard service.

Thank you A & E for taking care of me after my trip to my local pharmacy for advice was referred to my doctors surgery who then referred me to A & E. you were all so busy but still thorough, kind, explained things so I didn’t feel panicked, kept me informed, and treated me with respect.

  9. Review titled Poor

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 08 April 2024

I was given an appointment which I need urgently because of rheumatoid related shoulder pain that appears and disappears because the joint itself is permanently damaged. I can not sleep because of it. I received a text reminder from Royal Lancaster Infirmary the night before. On the day of the appointment it was however cancelled by Royal Lancaster Infirmary. A single unanswered call was made to my phone at 8.30 am. When I tried to call the unrecognised number back an automated machine disconnected me from further enquiry. So still none the wiser, I rang Rheumatology bookings waiting an hour or more in a queue being encouraged by automated messages to ring off and discontinue, to be told eventually that my appointment was fine. Minutes later I received a call from bookings apologizing for their error, but that on deeper digging in fact my appointment was cancelled. I asked for the next available appointment but bookings could not do that as it requires access to dates beyond a week or so. Bookings would need to telephone on, to another source, wait for them to call bookings back, then bookings call me back, but if I missed that call I'd be blocked from confirming by the original automated machine. Eventually after chasing bookings I established I am now having to wait in inflammatory pain that is sign of further damage underway to my shoulder, for a further 6 weeks. This has taken therefore several months of NHS telephony ping ponging between themselves in total, with nothing to show. The communication channels are a systematic one way street and the patient is left at the mercy of secondary care monopoly supposedly with the necessary expertise to recognise urgency when there is severe pain. I can not get help from the GP instead. I can not go to A&E instead. The steroid injection I need takes literally 5 minutes of someone's time, neglecting to combat the pain is false economy. It's a dreadful triage system causing unnecessary loss of amenity and pain.

  10. Review titled Suboptimal telephone appointment

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Susan - Posted on 19 March 2024

I received the telephone appointment on time. Unfortunately it was a complete waste of time both for me and the Doctor. The line was repeatedly cut off, and I was unable to understand what was being said. I gave up trying to understand what was being prescribed or what I should do. If the hospital set up telephone only appointments they need to back it up with I.t. systems that work effectively. It was a totally useless appointment which has left me very unwilling to accept the treatment prescribed because I was unable to have any meaningful communication.
