I arrived at the ent department Royal hallamshire hospital for my appointment I was called in on time by a very friendly and welcoming clinician . He explained everything very thoroughly and was extremely professional albeit had a sense of humour he made me feel very relaxed and I felt it was a great consultation. These days people criticise the NHS but in my experience there was nothing to complain about whatsoever

Review titled An almost perfect outpatient experience
Rated 5 stars out of 5

I visited Gynaecology Outpatients at Jessop Wing yesterday for a colposcopy. Being autistic, medical appointments cause me a huge amount of anxiety. However, the experience I had yesterday was overall positive and smooth. I was seen promptly by two kind and attentive nurses. The manner of the lead nurse in particular was exemplary. She listened carefully and explained the procedure clearly before examining me thoroughly. Thank you very much for the level of care and patience I received. My only gripe is with the receptionist. She was initially friendly, but when I was unable to produce a urine sample, she questioned me and made me feel uneasy. I've every hope this was a one-off and with a little less judgement, other patients will find their experience here is perfect.

Review titled Excellent care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Claire Walker - Posted on 08 November 2023
My 86 year old dad had a procedure to remove a myeloma on his back. All the staff who were involved in his care were absolutely first class. We felt so cared for and reassured. A theatre practitioner even helped me to take my dad in a wheelchair to the main lift. He was so helpful even though it was the end of his long shift and had every right to get out of the workplace as fast as he could. Nobody could have done more for us. We are do appreciative of their total professionalism.

Review titled Accessibility to car park at 8.30 am unavailable
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 01 December 2023
I was late for my 8.30 am appointment with ENT on 30/11/2023 by 30 minutes due to traffic congestion caused by your car park being closed except for blue badge holders. I was told I might have to wait for up to 4 hours to be seen although I did not have to wait that long. I am 82 years of age and had to find alternative parking at much greater cost resulting in the delay.Upon leaving the hospital at 10am I found that the car park was now open to all. The chaotic traffic congestion caused by the hospitals decision to close the car park without notice was the result in my delay. I find it difficult to believe the small number of blue badge holders with appointments at that time in the morning would nessesitate the closure of the car park. I purpously choose early morning appointments as I believe the car park is less likely to be full. If this is to be a regular occurrence I would appreciate notification prior to my future appointments.

Thank you for taking the time to share feedback about your recent experience of accessing our services. We are really sorry to read about the difficulties you experienced with finding alternative car parking to be able to attend your appointment and the delay to being seen you experienced due to the unexpected congestion on the road that morning. The the Multi-storey car park had to be closed at short notice on 30/11/23 due to inclement weather, and the STH Estates team were working to resolve this as quickly as possible. The car park was closed as a one-off due to it not being safe for it to be open until the Estates team had addressed the impacts of the inclement weather. As these were unforeseen circumstances outside of our control, prior warning was not able to be provided to patients about this. However, the closure of the car park will not be a regular occurrence. We hope that this information is helpful and wishing you all the best with any ongoing care and treatment.

Today I went to have an MRI scan on my head and spine , I was extremely nervous and had to stop a couple of times due to feeling of panic while having the scan , the staff were absolutely amazing and put me at ease and I felt very cared for , so I managed to continue with the scan . Thank you very much for the level of care and understanding I received.

Review titled Amazing patient care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Caroline C - Posted on 17 October 2023
I’d like to say a massive thank you to the ward i1 - outstanding care this weekend when I was referred from Barnsley. The doctor I was first class, made me feel completely at ease, relaxed and was really friendly. I was treated quickly attentively and felt really at ease. Exemplary service. No negative comments for this ward. Massive downside for this hospital and I would class it as a patient failure is the pharmacy situation, the Sunday I was in, the pharmacy was closed - I had to wait 4 hours to be provided with 2 out of 3 of my items from the oncall pharmacist unfortunately the doctors have no control over this. The last item was posted to me….a failing for patients. I hope this is resolved

Thank you ever so much for taking the time to share your recent experience of care. We are really pleased to read that you felt well cared-for by all staff on ward I1. It is good to read that you felt put at ease by the doctor, and that staff were attentive. We are sorry to read about your discharge experience and that this was quite a lengthy process. Our Organisational Development team are currently piloting an initiative which aims to reduce delays to discharge due to waiting for medication to take home. The aim of this project is to seek additional information from patients about their existing medication within 24hrs of admission so that only new or amended medications are prescribed to take home (rather than all medications), which will hopefully lessen the burden on junior doctors when writing prescriptions and reduce the number of items needing to be dispensed, leading to time savings. This is being piloted in a targeted area at present but the aim following the pilot would be to roll this process out to more wards. I hope that this gives you some assurance that we are seeking to improve the discharge process and reduce delays to receipt of discharge medication. However, if you wish to follow this up, please contact our PALS team on 0114 271 2400 or by emailing sth.pals@nhs.net. The PALS team will ask you to share some personal details in order for us to investigate this matter for you.

Review titled Over A year and Still waiting for appointment
Rated 1 star out of 5

GP raised a referral with neurology October 2022 due to expected stroke, and as yet Sheffield neurology have done nothing more then send me a letter to say I am on the list, and today over a year later 53 weeks tell me they are too busy to help me and should look for help somewhere else. This is a direct neglect of duty of care!
