  2. Review titled Fantastic Care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

My son went to A and E on 19th Feb after a rugby accident. The team were all professional, warm and saved his life. They foresaw issues before they occurred and remain calm at all times, even when worried about what the outcome might be. Many of the staff involved stayed beyond the end of their shifts to enable the best possible outcome for him. Outstanding and I cannot thank them enough.

  3. Review titled Outstanding

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Elizabeth Greenhalf - Posted on 11 February 2023

My son was admitted to A&E on 7th Feb 2023. The A&E department was absolutely heaving with people & children. They were understaffed & overrun. But they were working to the best of their ability to deal with every case. Their care & compassion was outstanding. They were brilliant throughout the evening, even though they were clearly under a lot of pressure. I witnessed some nurses go above & beyond for a couple of children to make them feel safe & comforted. It really was something to see. I was exhausted after a mere few hours, but the nurses powered through with a constant smile. Even overheard a nurse at one point talking to another that had sacrificed his break to get through his work load. Bless him. It didn’t stop there. When my son was eventually admitted to Lion Ward, the staff there were also fantastic. Constantly making sure we were comfortable & ok. Making sure we had everything we needed. They took care of my son & myself throughout the entire stay & were absolutely amazing. The NHS staff are truly a credit to themselves & their profession at this hospital. Showing an unwavering level of compassion & care for each individual patient & families.

  4. Review titled Consultant

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by pearl judith clarke - Posted on 22 February 2024

My consultant was attentive and caring, he listened to my concerns and understood that I was nervous and anxious to know that my condition was stable but he was honest when asked that at the moment there was no miraculous cure. I saw him in clinic but now I am discharged. He never made me feel hurried and gave his time even though he is a very busy man. He is a credit to the Royal Berks.

  6. Review titled General care

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by David Wright - Posted on 04 February 2023

The care we received was very variable and it would appear that nurses were able to counter doctors orders. I was subject to very sexiest language and attitudes from nurses (I could not be my daughters main carer as a man) and we were not given the parking waiver and I’ve spent £60 in parking when I could have had it for free.

  7. Review titled Thank you again RBH and NHS

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I attended for endometrial ablation. As always, overall I was impressed with my experience. There was one part which was not as I would expect it to be (topic of conversation during the type of procedure), however I fed back via PALS and received the best response within 1.5 hours. It’s true that it is how feedback is taken and responded to that can influence how you feel and I’m relieved no other woman will experience this in the future due to the learning. Thank you for this service which allows medical staff to focus on patients. There are some wonderful people in this hospital who commit to their roles well. Again, on calling the department to find out if it was the post impacting my biopsy result, I was immediately informed honestly of the situation. In the same call, I indicated my treatment preference and within 6 days an appointment letter arrived. This is exceptional. The appointment was to time and I liked the guidance to get my post procedure prescription whilst waiting for the pre meds to take affect. I was surprised at the free prescription- what a refreshing change! The advice from the consultant on when to take the tablets was helpful, meaning I avoided unnecessary pain. The consultant was excellent. The nurses were attentive. I appreciated the consultant observer taking time to thank me for allowing him to see a treatment he may introduce to his setting- this I found very respectful. The room was well prepared. Thank you to all concerned. Please could the hospital consider needing to wear face coverings during surgical procedures - with all precautions in place and being outside of a pandemic, I do think that a patient should be able to breathe freely. There is some pain/ discomfort and risk of nausea and deep air breathing helps.

  9. Review titled Excellent service

I brought my dad to the eye clinic to have laser treatment for diabetic retinopathy. Everyone that we saw at the department, was so kind, professional and efficient. My dad has dementia and is in a wheelchair, I was able to go in the room with him when he had the treatment done, this was something that my dad was worried about. The appointment was at 2:30, we were seen straight away, had an eye test, eye drops done and leaser treatment. We were out by 3:35 Thank you to an amazing team :)

  10. Review titled Not helpful

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Wendy Horsey - Posted on 05 January 2023

My GP referred me for a gynaecology ultrasound. I received a letter from Royal Berks via email confirming the time and date of appointment. I’m not familiar with Reading so set my sat nab for the address on the letter - London Road. It’s not until I’d been up London Road several times and couldn’t find it that I rang, told them where I was and asked how to get to the clinic only to be told that I was trapped in the one way system! Not helpful. I finally parked up in a side road, deciding to walk. I rang them again and was told the clinic is actually in Craven Road. A complete waste of time; when I finally arrived at the clinic it was too late to have the ultrasound. Please, please, please put the address of the department where the appointment is being held on the letters. Not everyone is familiar with Reading, and it would avoid confusion, stress, anger and NHS time. As a final kick in the gut, the web address at the clinic to allow me to leave feedback was also wrong.

Dear Wendy We are very sorry to read that you had trouble finding the appropriate department and that you missed your appointment because of it. London Road was the historical address for the main hospital and is still relevant for some departments based in the North Block of the site. However, as the main entrance and the multi storey car park is now based on Craven Road and most patients use that access, we need to reflect that in our correspondence, so thank you for raising this issue. Our website does feature the Craven Road address https://www.royalberkshire.nhs.uk/our-locations/royal-berkshire-hospital/ However, changing existing electronic templates for letters and leaflets may take a little longer but please be assured that this is being addressed.
