  1. Review titled Wait times too long with no expectations or treatment

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 24 October 2022

Came in with complaint of painful abdomen. Triage and bloods within 30 minutes - great. No expectation set or offered when asked for how long until a diagnosis. 4 hours later still nothing. Haven’t eaten or taken meds and haven’t been told what I can and can’t do or offered anything. Sleep deprived, in pain in a growing room with no updates offered. This can’t be good enough.

Dear Patient, Thank you very much for providing feedback about the Emergency Department (A&E). We are very sorry to hear about your recent experience and Matron for A&E has shared your review with the triaging team to ensure that they provide an idea of waiting times and expectations when triaging. A&E will soon be getting screens that will provide live and up-to-date information on waiting times and what is happening within the department, which will hopefully improve the patient experience and help with expectations. Please accept our sincere apologies for your experience. Patient Experience Team, Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust

  2. Review titled Human and empathetic care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 06 October 2022

Visited A&E with my poorly 5 year old. Have nothing but good things to say about the experience from the receptionist to the doctor. We are being transferred to the JR but while we wait the nurse bought me a cup of tea and a sandwich. Small acts of human kindness go such a long way for a desperately worried Mummy in the middle of the night. The doctor was charming with my son despite him being very grumpy. NHS staff are angels who walk the earth. Thank you Royal Berks.

  3. Review titled NHS at its best.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by John - Posted on 12 October 2022

Visited The Eye Accident and emergency clinic 11 October in the afternoon. I was triaged within a few minutes to assess my eye injury. I sat for a few minutes after and was asked how painful is my injury on a scale 1-10 by a nurse, within a few more minutes I was called by a Doctor. A thorough examination of my eye was performed and drops administered, to reduce the pain. I was released with a further checkup in two weeks. What else can I say. Thank you, thank you, thank you. You are everything I hoped for. NHS Staff at every level helped me find the clinic when I could not see or find you, offering me a wheel chair etc. The receptionist was empathetic and understanding ...the Nurses were exemplary professionals, the Eye Doctor conducted my tests with empathy and the professionalism expected , even the consultant came to confirm the diagnosis and clear me to go home. You you all touched my soul. Please accept my deepest thanks.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I was very anxious when I arrived at Breast Screening. However the receptionist was very welcoming and the waiting area was calm, airy and stress free. I saw various members of the medical team who were all friendly, professional and efficient. Thank you so much.

  5. Review titled Caring and responsive

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 16 September 2022

I had two unco-ordinated hospital appointments on the same day at different hospitals. The ENT nurse and consultant were very accommodating to ensure that I could manage this. They were very efficient, extremely caring and informative and I was pleased to receive my clinical letter the same evening.

  6. Review titled Misunderstand their mission statement

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Eyesdisapointedwidulot - Posted on 23 September 2022

Arrived at 1345 for 1415 appointment, called close on 1500,told to stay in my seat, nurse then called another person for treatment, when I made a comment about waiting, the response' you came here early'. I was then told' you can walk out',which I did as instructed,as I wanted to avoid a confrontation with a staff member who lacked customer service skills&empathy with patient. This appointment was nearly two years from my last visit and twice changed by letters this really inline with the four words in your mission statement????

Dear Patient Thank you very much for your feedback. I am very sorry to hear about the poor service you had at your recent consultation. This is not the level of service we strive to deliver every day nor the experience of most of our patients. I have shared your feedback with the department team, where it will be used to improve the patient experience. Please accept my sincere apologies on behalf of the Ophthalmology Department for your experience. Rafael Fernandes, Matron Head & Neck

We had an emergency with our 3yo, who was admitted to the Dolphin Ward after being attended to in Children's A and E. The care and attention she received was exceptional. The nurses and all the care workers were fantastic. Thank you all for everything.

  8. Review titled Poor comunication

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 15 October 2022

Mum was admitted after a bad fall, it took a number of calls over 48 hours to be able to talk to someone for a report of how mum was. she is now on Burghfield ward, which is virtually impossible to get an answer from, when I do, I am told she is eating and drinking and sitting by her bed and not complaining of any pain yet the hospital social worker has tried to talk to mum on three occasions and all mum says is how much back pain she has, All I want is an honest report of mums condition when I phone the ward and speak to her designated nurse not a load of lies, mum is a frail 85 year old , I have cancer and live 200 miles away and am also a carer for a family member so cannot at the present time visit mum. This must be one of the worst hospitals in England.

Dear Relative Thank you for posting a review. We are very sorry that you are experiencing problems in contacting the ward where your mother is being cared for, and that you feel that you are not receiving accurate updates. All of our elderly care wards strive to work closely with family to keep them updated so it is disappointing that this isn’t your experience. If you would like to contact me directly to discuss this in more detail, or to arrange that the team calls you daily to give you updates, please don’t hesitate to do so.
