Review titled Brilliant care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by John Berritt - Posted on 05 October 2024
I had to return to Queen Elizabeths at the request of my GP due to an ongoing leg issue. I was seen within 10 minutes, bloods taken etc, the nurse who dealt with me was brilliant and I didn't even feel the needle going in for the bloods which is rare as I am normally stabbed various times looking for a vein. The Doctor I saw on the 25th September recognised me and came over to see how I was, we had a chat and he said he would be back once he got my case records, I was shocked that he remembered me as these guys must see hundreds of people but it really reassured me that I had a Doctor who wanted to help me. He came back and was proper on the case he was even questioning my wife about my sleeping as he was worried about my breathing, he took more samples of my infected leg and put me on an antibiotic drip, I was also given Morphine for my pain. I cannot speak highly enough of the Doctor, Nurses and Staff in this department, they made me feel like a person and not just a number.

The staff took great care of me all the time. Taking the time to explain every procedure to me. I really felt like a person and not just a number. Every member of staff that crossed my path was extremely supportive and caring. I put my complete trust in them and never had any doubts regarding the treatment I received. Amazing dept with amazing professionalism at all times. Well done the SDEC dept and thank you.

Review titled People skills need improving

Advised to attend A&E by 111 due to chest pains. Triage nurse was rude and dismissive as soon as discussion continued and I mentioned mental health and she tried to brush off pain as panic attack. It was not! Staff need to understand better how to relate to people and not make ill-informed judgements, or dismiss people if there is any mention of mental health. I had hoped this discrimnation had changed. Clearly not. When finally got to see doctor he was great and understanding and got to root of problem without judgment.

Good Morning I am very sorry to hear about your experience, we aim to provide high standards of care to all patients regardless of their reason for attending. The Trust champions non-discriminatory behaviours and it was very disappointing to hear that you were left feeling this way after interaction with a staff member. Please accept our apologies, we will be reminding all staff of the importance of appropriate attitude and the Trust values. All feedback is extremely important to us and gives us an opportunity to improve our service, if you would like to discuss this further please contact our PALS department on pals.qeht@nhs.net Thank you for your feedback and helping us to improve the service. Tuesday night in A&E after traffic accident seen within 10 minutes then waited an hour for Doctor the care received was incredible . Wonderful staff . But disgusted by the verbal abuse they were receiving by so called people waiting to be seen. They deserve better than this as these are the people who are there to help and support us .

Got to a & e at q.e Woolwich around 12.15. Expected a long wait but was surprised how quickly I got seen to. Saw a nurse and had X-ray and was out of the hospital by 3.45. It was very busy and staff were working hard. Maybe others aren’t so fortunate to get seen quickly depending on their problem but I cannot fault it on this occasion.

on the 04/09/2024 I came to the hospital to see emergency doctor there I refused to sit for another 2 and half hours next to the middle age generation there they illness badly affected surrounded visitors, for that reason I have decided to give my personal experience for a very old lady ,to jump into the '' sport club'' rather than sitting and doing nothing for several hours and draining energy from the others.

Mum of 85 years was taken in ambulance to A&E, in absolute agony in her femur, eventually had x-ray to show total break, they acted quite quickly then, unfortunately the morphine did not touch the pain, that was Sunday, Monday operated total new hip, plate in femur and wired, she was in ward 20 for almost 2 weeks , the care in that ward was brilliant, I did not have one moan, the ward was clean and tidy and the nurses were very kind Mum now in QE Sidcup for rehab, they to have been brilliant Thank you again

Review titled Terrible

After sitting in A&E for 6 hours I walked out. I went to A&E for a suspected detached/tear in my retina. This condition is a medical emergency and yet 6 hours later after being triaged twice and a set of bloods taken I was still sat there. I was told the wait could be another hour or two. I appreciate that it’s a busy department but your triage is ridiculous. Why bloods tests when I have an eye problem? It’s a waste of resources. I have been to another A&E dept since and they dealt with the matter in the way it should have been. I now have a specialist looking at my eye. I will never return here again. Really poor facilities too.

With the complaint being anonymous and a date unknown it is difficult to be specific however I would like to offer an explanation for clarity. Firstly I am sorry that this patient feels his experience in our department was so awful. All patients presenting to the emergency department are first streamed by an urgent Care streamer in order to avoid inappropriate attendances to the ED. I am presuming that rather than being triaged twice this patient was initially seen by UCC and streamed back for an ED review, this process does not delay the patients journey as they are still seen by ED according to the time that they walked through the front door. Secondly, in an emergency department it is essential that patients are seen in order of clinical priority and not in order of attendance. Patients presenting to an emergency department are assessed and prioritised according to the Manchester Triage System. This is a clinical risk and management tool that helps ensure patient safety and enables emergency clinicians to safely manage patient flow when clinical need far exceeds capacity. Patients triaged as a category 1 or 2 are those requiring immediate treatment such as cardiac arrests or patients requiring resuscitation. This patient would have been assessed by a triage nurse and prioritised according to this tool. Without knowing patient specifics I am unable to explain why this patient needed blood tests however I would agree based on the initial presentation complaint this does seem unusual however he attended with a ? suspected retinal detachment and this had not been confirmed as a diagnosis, without the history I am unable to discern if there were alternative diagnosis's. Lastly, I would sincerely like to offer my apologies in regards to this complaint and the long wait times experienced. As a department we do everything in our power to reduce waiting times but unfortunately the demands on the service are sometimes higher than expected. We will ensure that this users experience will be shared with staff in order to improve services in the future and possibly prevent unrequired testing. Kind Regards Clair Casserly Staff Nurse

Review titled Caring and kind staff

We had to go to children’s A&E and were admitted to Safari ward. All the staff we met whilst we were there were wonderful. The play team were brilliant and kept our son entertained and happy, one of the ladies even came to see us when we were on the ward and was so helpful. We did not have one negative experience with any staff we met. Every nurse and doctor explained everything to us clearly and fully and were very supportive and understanding. Overall, given the circumstances, we had a really positive experience and we are so grateful that both the Safari Ward and children’s A&E were so supportive. Thank you all.

We are so pleased to hear of your positive experience when having to attend the children’s emergency department. The play team are new to ED so it is greatly reassuring to hear what a positive difference they can make to our patients experience. We hope your child is feeling much better.
