  1. Review titled Very unprofessional after care

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 16 February 2024

Several emails left to see surgeon face to face who operated on me, have requested direct email for the individual also, most emails ignored bar one advising surgeon does not "meet" patients post op. Sister has left voice messages also, again being ingnored. No one is helping me or giving me answers as to what caused my operation being unsuccessful. I would strongly not recommend this hospital to anyone who is thinking about being a patient with them especially if you are from out of town & deaf.

  2. Review titled Mental Health Crisis Challenging for all

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Sheryl King - Posted on 04 October 2023

I write about this experience not as a complaint but as a learning opportunity for the department. We attended with our 22 year old son who was experiencing an acute deterioration in his mental health. He was having a psychotic episode with religious delusions, auditory and visual hallucinations. Nursing staff did their best and on arrival we were initially placed in a children’s side room which was well meant but inappropriate for a young adult in a confused state. Formal detainment was recommended and we had 26 hour wait before a Mental Health bed was found. During this time our son was escalating due to his confusion and my husband and I had to contain him as he wandered around in distress and unfortunately as he refused oral medication to calm him had to be restrained and given an intra muscular injection ( this was incredibly distressing). Overall an extremely challenging experience for all but our son especially and one that raises the need for staff training and suitable therapeutic space for patients attending A & E with mental ill health.

I have been on ward 306 a few times now and although I don't think anyone enjoys being in hospital the staff here try to make you feel as at home and comfortable as they can, if you ever have to stay on this ward rest assured you are in good hands and will be looked after.

  6. Review titled Appauling service and support

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Stuart Lawrie - Posted on 19 July 2023

Having been here for 3 weeks with major trauma including Broken Femur, Broken Collarbone, Broken Wrist, 12 broken ribs and a punctured lung, I have hardly seen physio when I do the first time they give me some exercises to work with since then they have avoided coming to see me. At the moment I cannot weight bear on my right leg so Occupational Therapy gave me a special wheel chair and a banana board to allow me to get in and out from my bed, today 4 different physio staff have been and "Borrowed" the board for other patients through the day with the promise it will be returned, except the 4th time was several hours ago and when chasing up to get it back as it is my only means of getting out of bed for things like the toilet I am told the physio has now gone

  7. Review titled very poor treatment Ward 410

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Stuart Lawrie - Posted on 19 July 2023

Well I was moved to this ward yesterday in a snatch squad exercise, by this I mean no warning it was happening and still no explanation as to why. Well the most appauling thing today is due to the nature of my injuries I can get extreme pain and when this occurs my consultant has said I can have Oramorph which I have done as needed over several days. Today at around 2pm as I was getting extreme pain in my knee I asked for some Oramorph only to be told they had none and were waiting for it to come up from Pharmacy as the intensity of the pain increased I kept asking and no was not available. Just after 6pm they came around with my other meds which again I asked for the oramorph as the Paracetamol would not work but was told there was none, so I refused the other meds, miraculously within 5 minutes the nurse was back with the Oramorph. Given it has not been available all day seems hard to believe that it suddenly arrived in this 5 minute window, would seem they were choosing not to follow the consultants orders to conserve their stocks for some strange reasoning

  8. Review titled Our NHS at its Best!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Andy Gordon - Posted on 13 June 2023

I was admitted to the Stroke Ward 514 at QE hospital. The care I received there was second to none. I have never come across a more professional, hard working, friendly and caring staff - from the consultant to the cleaner it was clear that they all had a vested interest in the patients and the hospital. It was honestly brilliant. I met 2 of the stroke nurses at the CT scanner room shortly after my arrival in the A&E department. It was they that made sure I had the correct scans and was admitted to hospital. (just to make sure I was kept safe and well). They put me at my ease and explained everything I needed to know about procedures and outcomes. They went and sorted out a bed on the stroke ward. I was put into a single bed room with an outlook that you don't get in some high priced hotels. It was spotless and so well cared for. All the nurses and other staff who attended me were terrific. (Does the NHS have staffing shortages? You'd never know it from this ward. It is obviously so well managed.) I was admitted at about 5am and had seen a consultant just 5 hours later with the results of all the tests that had been carried out and future care planned for - that’s apart from 2 doctors and countless nurses. I had breakfast and Sunday dinner there and both were very good. The A&E ward I was taken to on arrival worked so smoothly and was operated by paramedic ambulance staff. (there was no waiting in an ambulance or in a corridor) They were fantastic. Very caring, helpful and friendly. Superb care. All in all I think a world-class beating service is offered at the QE. I only wished my wife had been admitted there when she had her stroke 2 years ago. Things might well have been very different today. Thank you to all the QE. Your efforts pay tribute to a great NHS.

  10. Review titled Wonderful bedside manner and care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Abigail Reeley - Posted on 03 June 2023

I came in for a procedure and the nurse who looked after me on ward 513 (she is usually on 504) was so brilliant - friendly, efficient, excellent sense of humour and reassuring. It was a fun and enjoyable experience being on the ward rather than being a bit of a worrying time. I can’t praise her highly enough.
