  3. Review titled Sparse Wine List

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Was admitted via a&e after collapsing at home, was disgusted by the number of dossers and bagheads who probably didn't need to be there, resulting in the genuine needy having to wait to be seen on stretchers including the elderly. Regardless, everyone worked as a team doctors and nurses were carrying out portering work, yes extremely short staffed which gave the impression that there was no one about, but nothing could be further from the truth. My stay was comfortable. Everyone who I witnessed was a credit to a broken health service and certainly worth more than they are paid.

When my son was rushed into resus with a significant head wound the team were absolutely fantastic. They put us all at ease from the start. The max fax lady that put the staples in his head was truly amazing and the after care has been 10/10. We could not have asked for a better service.

  6. Review titled Smoking!

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 14 August 2024

My visit to Cardio & Respiratory last week was as expected and the staff are very caring, understanding and supportive. My issue was on leaving the hospital. I was waiting outside for my relative to pick me up (even though they couldn’t even get in a space in the pick up area) and a guy came next to me and lit up a cigarette. I turned to look at him and walked away to another space which I shouldn’t have to do as there is a designated smoking shelter not 20yds away for smokers. The guy then shouted across to me asking what my problem was! I explained he could have found an open space to which he said it was. Obviously not if he was stood at the side of me. I have asthma and other more serious respiratory/heart issues at the moment and should not have to be challenged or confronted about him smoking somewhere he shouldn’t be. Then another guy at the side of him who was nothing to do with him had a go at me saying he doesn’t smoke but he doesn’t have a problem with it. Really?! It was nothing to do with him and shouldn’t have got involved. People outside were looking at me which was embarrassing and very upsetting. All the time I was being confronted there were numerous tannoy announcements saying not to smoke and people are having cancer treatment right now etc. whilst there were quite a few smokers around me. They just didn’t seem to care and ignored all the warnings. Why am I being confronted in that way? Why is nobody doing anything about the smoking problems? Why are security just turning a blind eye?! As a visitor with health issues I was told by the second guy to ‘get a life’ which is totally unacceptable given we were at a hospital. No-one should assume they aren’t affecting others and project their addictions onto non smokers, and should have more consideration. I was left mentally processing my actual appointment procedure, along with taking abuse from someone I don't even know when they were the ones in the wrong which left me a bit shaken. Come on Pinderfields….sort this issue out!! Security should have stepped in to protect me being harassed by the two guys. Smokers should be moved on by Security to the designated areas or fined. It’s just not acceptable.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments regarding your recent visit to Pinderfields Hospital. First of all I am pleased to read that your appointment with our Cardio & Respiratory team went well and you found staff to be caring. Thank you for your kind words which I will pass onto the team. However, I am disappointed and extremely sorry to read of your experience whilst waiting outside of the hospital. What you have described is certainly not what we would want for anyone visiting our hospitals. I fully acknowledge what an awful experience this will have been for you. I completely understand your frustration with people smoking outside of the front entrance. We are doing everything we can possible to deter people from smoking in the area but it is a constant struggle. Our Head of Security is looking at alternative approaches to improve the situation and our security staff do everything they can to either move people on or to politely request they refrain from smoking. I have shared your email with the Head of Security and I am hoping we can find a solution to the issue as soon as possible. Once, again I would like to thank you for bringing this to our attention. Kind regards Clare Blackburn (Head of Patient Experience)

  7. Review titled Sorely Lacking

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 12 September 2024

I am not usually one to write reviews but after having let the events settle I felt the need to let someone know about the experience which I received visiting the Accident & Emergency department. I was just over five weeks pregnant when I had a minor bleed the night before. It was only a small bleed. But naturally as a pregnant woman I was concerned. I contacted 111 who then directed me to my local A&E department. I didn't have any pain, just discomfort and the bleeding had ceased by this point. My wait time was very quick and the doctor I saw was very polite but other than feeling my stomach externally and asking for me to urinate into a cup to check a pregnancy test she didn't really do much. She said she was unable to refer me to the Early pregnancy unit as I just wasn't far enough along. The advice was if you feel pain, come back. If not pee on a stick in a weeks time. Two days later I returned to Accident & Emergency. The discomfort in my stomach had grown. I could feel something there, my stomach was also pulsing externally as though my heart had relocated itself. And was by this point getting oddly round for someone at 5.5 weeks pregnant. I sat in a untidy and kind of unclean A@E for over 6.5 hours before eventually discharging myself because by this point it was past 3am. And someone needed to be at home to look after my toddler as the wait time was looking like it was going to be past 8am. Despite going home I kept feeling worse, and worse and worse. I waited until I was 6 weeks and called the early pregnant unit who asked me to come in for an emergency scan. Only I couldn't bring my toddler and I didn't have anyone for her. So I had to ask what the last appointment I could get was and ask my husband to travel up north from working away to watch my little one so I could go for a scan. I understand the policy exists for a reason but you can't always get childcare on short notice when you have a little person. I was told that the last scan was at 4pm and I could not be late. I actually arrived early. However, my scan wasn't until 4:30pm... I was diagnosed with a caesarean ectopic and was told that my uterus was just full of blood, hence the pulsing. Sadly, all I can think is... if I had actually listened to the first doctors advice... and I left A&E the second time knowing I was just going to be fobbed off too. It's a good think I am not afraid to advocate for myself. A skill I learned from my first pregnancy sadly. Apparently if you sit in the Accident & Emergency department and are loud and rude this will bump you up the queue. Makes sense, I'd love to say I had the balls to adopt this method for future trips but I really do not want to return. It saddens me that I feel the whole quality of care is lacking already.

  9. Review titled Unacceptable parking issues

by Anonymous - Posted on 07 June 2024

I have had the displeasure of having to visit pinderfields multiple times throughout my pregnancy, everytime I have been I have not been able to park in an actual car parking space, I have been forced to park on double yellows, grass verges and access paths to be able to get to my appointments on time. Why does the car park allow people to still enter when there are no spaces left? Why are all the staff car parks so big and always have tons of spaces left but the customer and visitor one is always so full? Surely it makes sense to expand the customer and visitor car park and lose one of the staff ones at least? My appointment today was for a blood pressure check as I am 9 months pregnant and suffering with high blood pressure. I had to sit and wait for a hour to have it checked multiple times. After returning to my car I find that I have been given a parking fine because I was forced to park on double yellows or miss my appointment, purely because there were no spaces left. I drove around the car park back and forth for half an hour trying to find a space before I resorted to parking on double yellows within the car park. The parking situation is an absolute joke. When I found the parking ticket I broke down in tears and had to sit and calm myself before driving home, people don’t need the stress of parking to be this bad when they are already having to visit a hospital for whatever reason. Needs addressing, and quickly!

However, I cannot even begin to imagine what a distressing situation it will have been for you trying to find a car parking space but thank you for sharing your feedback with us.
