Review titled Appointment
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 25 October 2023
I attended an orthopaedic clinic in May this year and was seen by the registrar rather than the consultant. On previous occasions I have seen the consultant who is really nice and understanding. The registrar on the other hand made me feel like a fraud and that I shouldn't be there. He first introduced himself, and then pointed to the computer screen where there were two x-ray results. He asked me can you see any difference between the two, I replied I couldn't but really not sure what I'm looking for. He replied no because there is no difference between the most recent one and the one done five years ago. He then asked me do you drive? I replied no. Well how did you get here today? he asked. I replied my husband brought me. Well where's your husband now? I replied in the waiting room. Well let's have him in here then. I wasn't lying when I said I couldn't drive. I tried to explain my problem is not the arthritis which was showing on the x-rays, but the fact that the joint locks and sometimes gives way resulting in falls. He explained that because this comes and goes there is nothing they can do about the problem. If these are the rules then I have to accept that, but the problem was his attitude as if I was just a time waster and a liar.

I am sorry to learn that your experience wasn’t a positive one when visiting our department on this occasion. We do all we can in regards to ensuring that our patients have a positive experience. Communication is one of the key areas we do concentrate on, by partaking in various courses and exercises within the department regarding this topic. I will ensure that this topic is brought up again in their next training/governance meetings to reiterate the importance of this. I hope this is ok for you Debbie? Please let me know if you need me to expand on anything Kind Regards Carly Goldsmith Service Manager - Trauma & Orthopaedics

Review: I have just had my gallbladder removed after months of pain and sickness. Everybody from preassement, day care ward, anesthetic team and surgeons were fantastic and amazing, so kind ,caring , empathetic. I was so nervous and scared and anxious as I am very high risk. I felt reassured and treated like a queen with dignity respect and care. Nothing was too much trouble the nurses, healthcares and domestics all had time for you on Day case ward. The theatre team amazing What a positive experience Well done Pilgrim I am now comfy at home and doing well thanks to all of your team, I am very grateful.

Review titled Excellent care in 3 departments finished up a nightmare.
by Tarny67 - Posted on 29 May 2023
I was extremely unwell with Pancreatitis, Gallstones, Cholecystitis, UTI, Sepsis, low blood pressure. I was very ill. I arrived at Pilgrim Hospital A&E in the early hrs of the morning. We had phoned ahead to let A&E know. When we arrived we were booked in, the staff were caring and compassionate they prepared me immediately I/V antibiotics (IVa) to bring up my blood pressure and all other essential treatment . From there I went to Integrated Assessment Centre (IAC) ward, on there they were also very professional, knowledgeable and caring; I was feeling so awful in pain and not knowing what was wrong and why I had so much pain. The staff made me very comfortable, but by this point things were beginning to feel really strange. Late at night I was moved to my bed on 5A, Bay 3a this was where I would be staying. My bed was sorted, it was explained to me by a Health Care Support Worker what would happen, booking in, IV antibiotics etc., Around 10 minutes later I noticed the needle dressing on my right arm had come loose and blood was running from it, I stepped out of my bay and walked just a few steps to where a staff member was, I stood quietly until they finished what they were reading, I waited a few minutes, they looked at me and asked why I was out of my room. They said I should not move from my room unless I have permission at which point they told me to get back in to bed. I asked about my dressing to which they said it didn’t warrant a new one. I rang my husband expressing my wish to go home as I felt this staff member was rude, unprofessional and in my opinion should not be caring for sick vulnerable people. In the meantime I said I was leaving the ward, I walked towards the door, they stated I must complete a discharge form and that they wanted me off the ward. My husband came, he’d spoken with Corporate who said he could stay until I had calmed down. This member of staff told him he could only have five minutes. Eventually I settled showered and bed. During the night my infusion would bleep if my arm moved, it was placed in the crook of my arm and I felt told off by this staff member for not keeping my arm still. I told them that when I’m asleep I cannot control my arm. They finally said that the only thing to do would be to stop the IV so I can get my sleep. When I woke in the morning the whole thing had been taken down. My experience on 5A was intimidating and frightening as it was for 3-4 nights. Another member of staff there was also rude and I felt mostly ignored. What had been the beginning of a perfect admission excellent care in 3 departments finished up in a nightmare situation. I feel I should report this behaviour, so this does not happen to new patients . The days this member of staff wasn't there, there was laughter on the ward , I’d like to thank all the day staff and a lot of the night staff for the fantastic care that was shown to me. Kind regards .

Review titled Rude health care worker
by Lucy548 - Posted on 11 May 2023
Rude healthcare worker at antenatal Pilgrim Hospital. Was just so rude and I felt they didn't treat me like a human. I believe this member of staff should find a job where they don’t have to interact with people, that would suit them better. In my opinion, they treat patients like dogs.

Review titled Amazing staff
Rated 5 stars out of 5

I had a 2 night stay over the bank holiday weekend… I attended the hospital morning after calling the labor ward (am currently 19 weeks pregnant). I had to wait a few a hours to be examined but they were busy and understood and this was fine I was just pleased they agreed to see me. Within 10 mins of being assessed I was admitted and seen by a senior dr who organized for an urgent scan straight away… by the Saturday I was given emergency surgery to sort the problem out. The care that I received from every single member of staff from housekeeping to the surgeon was exceptional. The theatre nurses were also lovely and reassuring and helped calmed me down at a time I felt most vulnerable. They reassured me constantly, listened to me concerns and I cannot honestly thank them enough! The ward was spotless as was my own private room. I am absolutely terrified of hospitals but these wonderful ladies that looked after me made it much less scary! A huge thank you to all the staff on ward 1b I truly cannot thank you enough

Review titled Getting thru on phone
Rated 3 stars out of 5

Trying to cancel an appt and nobody answers the phone ... have tried loads of times even went thru switchboard but all to no avail. This is not a good service as I know my appointment could have been offered to another patient . So I have had to dna on this appt. I am aware of shortages within the NHS but surely there must be a receptionist who answers the phones ...

Please accept my sincere apologies on behalf of ULHT for your poor experience in our failing to answer your call. As there are so many telephone numbers and lines coming into the Trust unfortunately I am unable to comment any further without specifics, but I would be very happy to investigate if you would be kind enough to provide me with the details of your appointment, either directly via email laura.kearney@ulh.nhs.uk or our PALS team whose contact details can be found here Patient advice and liaison service (PALS) - United Lincolnshire Hospitals (ulh.nhs.uk) Many thanks Laura

Review titled Impressed by the whole process
by CarolB2 - Posted on 18 May 2023
I had a gynaecological scan where I was immediately put at ease and treated with care and respect. I then attended a women's health clinic to discuss my scan results and found all of the staff very friendly and the nurse specialist excellent. I was impressed throughout the whole process.

Review titled Helped us to feel more positive about the situation
by Betat23 - Posted on 14 April 2023
Having recently received a diagnosis for a family member, we were feeling a bit shell shocked and afraid. We were then contacted by a Haematology cancer nurse who immediately made us feel that we were not alone on this journey and that there was a team of professionals to offer support and guidance along the way. This was really reassuring, and has helped us to feel more positive about the situation.
