  1. Review titled Glossop Ward

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Helen Garthwaite - Posted on 23 May 2024

I recently spent three days and nights on glossop ward and the care I received from everyone that looked after me was absolutely faultless. I was first in the A&E dept with very painful injury and I was looked after by a very lovely nurse who looked about me for 12 hours before I was admitted on to the day surgery ward. Every department I went to I was treat with the best care and it made a very difficult time a lot easier to deal with.

Fantastic experience today thanks to Peta Ward staff especially the lovely nurse who was put in charge of me. I was put at ease and looked after so well with the surgery and nursing staff being exceptionally informative and on the ball, I came away with my confidence in the NHS 100% as I have many times, thank you.

  3. Review titled Poor organisation of appointment

Rated 4 stars out of 5

    by C Hayes - Posted on 19 May 2024

I had a CT scan booked for6.30pm 18 may 24 with the mobile scanning unit for a scan of my shoulder in preparation for surgery on 28 may 24. I arrived 30 mins early and was happy to wait I was booked in and then called to the unit. I was then after a few minutes advised that they may not be able to the scan in the mobile unit as they did not have the protocol for this scan and that I may have to go to the main scan unit in the hospital or they may be able to perform the scan on the mobile unit if they could get the protocol. I was advised to wait whilst they contacted the main scan unit . I was then advised they had spoken to the hospital scan unit they were performing a scan and would call back . The staff on the mobile unit were very helpful in trying to sort this but we’re having problems getting the other unit to answer the phone or respond. Finally I was advised that the mobile unit staff had been advised that the hospital scan unit did not want to perform the scan and I would have to rebook. This is highly unprofessional and inconvenient to me we had travelled from Beaworthy and had prepared for this appointment as I have limited transport as my husband who drives me works full time and we had scheduled his work time around this I am unable to drive myself due to my severe shoulder injury. We now have to wait for another appointment to try and fit around his work hours and before my surgery on the 28 may!I have had my pre assessment and just needed this CT scan ready for my surgery. I am appalled at the poor assistance and lack of consideration by the hospital scan unit who basically refused to do the scan. I would stress that the mobile unit were very helpful in trying to get me seen but literally came up against the hospital staff not assisting them to get me seen as urgent. Shocking waste of my time fuel and stressful to now wait and see if they can scan me in time before my surgery, otherwise my surgery may be cancelled which I have been waiting many months for and am in severe discomfort. This could have been done whilst I was in site and I in no way am unhappy with the mobile unit team who tried their best to get me seen last night.I would ask for an investigation and full explanation as to why the scan unit would not see me. The hospital was extremely quiet and I feel this was a poor decision. I have to now go through all of this again hoping I can get to the next appointment whenever that may be, very upset about this lack of consideration at the time and feel there needs to be much better understanding of effort made by patients to attend to then be told to rebook

  4. Review titled Really pleased

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Following an X Ray and confirmation of mild arthritis by my GP, I attended a meeting at Holsworthy Hospital, with a representative from the physio department of North Devon Hospital on the 30th April 2024. I would like to say how pleased I was with the help and guidance I received from the gentleman. He was kind, considerate and professional in talking me through my problem and how we could resolve it. I was given specific exercises to do to assist it's resolution and we arranged a follow up meeting for the 11th June. At that meeting, we discussed my progress and the way forward. I will keep doing my specific exercises - which appear to be working and have been offered a course of machine exercises, to do light workouts, which will assist me further in having more mobility. With his skill and knowledge he has been able to change my gloomy mindset I had at first, into something totally positive. For which I thank him most sincerely.

  5. Review titled Wonderful staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Rebekah Compton - Posted on 24 April 2024

I attended A & E with my teenager (at night) & was very impressed with all the staff we encountered. They were kind, caring, friendly and thorough, taking time to explain everything & ensuring our concerns were heard. We were very impressed with the level of care received. It's a shame about the waiting times, but huge respect to NDDH A & E staff all they do.

Roborough ward and staff were absolutely amazing and such a delight, they looked after my additional needs sister over a night time and day time period. Nothing was too big or small of an ask. They were patient, understanding and respectful of my sister, they accommodated myself to stay with my sister also. Can’t not fault the staff or the ward

  8. Review titled A&E visit

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by GTR - Posted on 12 March 2024

I attended a&e today for abdominal pain. After I had been triaged and had bloods taken I was told I would be given pain relief. About an hour after I arrived I saw the doctor, who also told me they would arrange some pain relief. 2 hours after I arrived I went to find someone to ask if I could have some painkillers. I was offered paracetamol. At that point I asked if the cannula I had in could be removed, I was in pain and crying and explained if I'm just going to be sat in pain I could do that at home. If the pain I had could have been treated with paracetamol I wouldn't have come to a&e. The nurse who removed my cannula then said something along the lines of "you've seen the doctor and had bloods taken, 2 hours isn't bad". I examined I had been on pain for that whole time and waiting for painkillers. I was then told that I should have told the doctor that I needed pain relief, which I had. I was treated as if I was acting extremely unreasonably and that this was my own fault for assuming I would given the pain relief I had been told I would get twice. I was told I had to sign something to discharge myself, I've no idea why as it was made clear to me that I wasn't being admitted, I just had to wait for blood results and codeine. I understand it can take a while for results to come back through, I have worked in both microbiology and biochemistry labs. If I was to be left to sit in pain waiting for results, I could that more comfortably at home laying on my sofa with a hot water bottle and calling the doc in the morning.

  9. Review titled Highest level of care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Jenny - Posted on 03 April 2024

My 16 month old became ill whilst on holiday. 111 call resulted in a first responder arriving and then the ambulance crew. He was assessed and it was decided that he needed to go to hospital. From the initial 111 call to him being discharged from hospital, the level of care to my son and to ourselves was the highest possible. All staff were friendly, welcoming, reassuring and went above and beyond to make sure things were being explained to us rather than just being done. They made a stressful experience as pleasant as possible. We were even offered refreshments! The ambulance driver kindly stopped to ask us how we had got on when she saw us going home! A massive thank you to all staff involved. Our only wish is that our local hospital provided this same level of care.
