Everyone at the Colorectal Surgery ward has been so professional and caring. My surgery was successful and has had a massive positive effect on me. I am grateful for them and the NHS.

I've just had a 6 day stay. I was in a traumatic state very unwell and dehydrated when the amazing paramedics came to treat me with such care and get me to a&e. At a&e I was given brilliant care so much kindness many tests to find the problems. From here I was transferred to MAU where again I received amazing care and kindness. I was soon transferred to Robough ward.. to continued wonderful care. The consultants doctors nurses care team and Sodexo for providing gluten/dairy free choices. I cannot thank you all enough. I am now at home recovering and feel blessed for such a brilliant NHS

I have been in hospital for 13 days. The attention to care and kindness and getting me well again was amazing. From the paramedics to A&E on to MAU then Tarka ward... Every member of staff did everything to make me comfortable. The testing and observations were so supportive. The food and tea/ coffee excellent especially as I have intolerance to some foods. The staff are all so busy but still manage a smile and greeting! Thank you all so much

Review titled Amazing people

I recently underwent a laparoscopy on the petter day unit. It was my first time in hospital, and my first operation. I was so incredibly nervous. Everything was so smooth and everyone was so so kind. I got to ask all the questions I wanted and they talked me through everything I was anxious about. They took my neurodivergence in to consideration and made me feel extremely at ease. My anaesthetist especially was incredible, if I was to ever need another operation I can only hope they’re as great as he was. My only slight issue was my surgeon spoke to me about the operation when I was still coming round, I didn’t even have my eyes open. Seeing as I couldn’t remember what was said to me I had to wait until my discharge summary a few days later to find out what happened during the surgery. The nurses were great and the whole day was extremely easy. I am extremely thankful for the experience I had.

I had to attend A&E after a fall whilst on holiday in Woolacombe I was treated with the utmost kindness and respect by all concerned from the receptionist to the nurses and doctors. Yes I had to wait hours but I was seen, treated and advised. Those people are marvellous in the circumstances they face every day of their working lives

Review titled Very Poor

I was referred to the Urology department at Nddh, in June 2024, after having a recurring Uti. It was established by Mri scan etc, that I had kidney stones, which were causing my UTIs. I last had contact with the department in July and have heard nothing since. Although i had a CT scan in July, as of today, late October, I've heard nothing, no follow up, no contact, nothing. I've left messages on the departments answerphone, and have still not heard back. In the meantime, I've been on antibiotics for 7 months, another medication for, bladder wall thickening and an enlarged prostate, all a result of constant UTIs, that NDDHs urology department, obviously couldn't care less about.

I visited the hospital today for two procedures and from the minute I entered I was looked after so well. Booking me in, explaining everything to ensure my anxiety was low The procedure itself was great and again the consultant and staff were fantastic The after care was great Everyone should be proud to work in such a great environment

Review titled A credit to the NHS
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Paul Weston - Posted on 19 June 2024
I was taken by ambulance to the North Devon Hospital in the early hours of Monday morning. A viral infection had left me with an acute adrenal crisis and I was in a very poor state. The patience, kindness and professionalism of the ambulance crew and the A&E staff was exceptional and thanks to them they were able to stabilise my condition over several hours and I was eventually moved to the Medical Assessment Unit. Now we often hear opposition politicians these days say that the NHS is broken. Well I have news for them. Not at the front line it isn’t at Barnstaple. They have the most amazing staff - and I’m sorry I’m not allowed to name individuals here, or else I would. I was then moved to the Roborough Ward where once again everyone from the health care assistants, to the cleaners, to the meal servers and before I left the pharmacy team all combined to make my stay as comfortable and stress free as they could. I can’t thank them enough. They are a wonderful team of professionals who work seamlessly to underpin the true values of the NHS. It was a scary few days for me and my wife but their kind assurances shone through and helped us come out the other side. If the NHS is broken it is at the management and regional level and these front line staff deserve so much better.
