  2. Review titled Amazing birth unit, really bad maternity wards

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 09 September 2024

During pregnancy we had the most supportive and experienced staff. It was a difficult and early birth, with many health related complications. We were treated well and with respect, and the knowledge was amazing. The NICU unit were phenomenal and helped us a lot. However, once we were on the maternity ward, things changed. Staff were barely responsive, pain meds were upto 40 minutes late, despite asking with the buzzer (for meds every 2 hours apparently). Constantly telling us they didn't know what someone else had said or done. They barely talking to each other , aside from the nurses all huddled around the nurses station talking random stuff unrelated to work. The kitchen staff were blunt, ignorant and very rude. Food was cold, half the time it never arrived or was half done with no drinks, or without partners breakfast. They were impossible to get hold of after the fact. The nurses kept asking questions that we wouldn't know the answers to, that they should know themselves, but no one documented anything. NICU were checking on the baby and had to know things, but would often tell us the nurses didn't communicate with them and would need to chase down answers. Then NICU themselves would relay that to us. The difference in care between NICU and maternity is astounding. As a new parent who had been through so much, I wanted nothing more than to be rid of this place, solely based on the staff on maternity. I am thankful for the birthing team and NICU team, and they have helped more than I can explain. But maternity needs a shake up. We were warned prior that this place is like this, but didn't believe it due to how nice the other departments were during the birthing process.

My 8yr daughter had an ultra sound scan on her neck this morning. lady Dr , was outstanding in her practice. She explained, showed us whilst scanning . Went above and beyond putting my mind at rest after a long drawn out wait for a ultra scan ! A massive thank you . Such a credit to KMH (as she previously worked at Sheffield) and also the support nurse who was very friendly and helpful .

  4. Review titled Amazing care from start to finish

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by TERRY CLIFFORD ALVEY - Posted on 18 August 2024

I suffer from vertigo and had a really bad attack in the early hours of August 14th. However I also had bouts of vomiting which was new. Rang 111 and soon had paramedics who checked me out and I finished up at Newark Urgent Care. The team there were outstanding. They scanned me and it appeared I might have had a stroke. An ambulance transferred me to Kings Mill shortly afterwards and I was soon on the Stroke Ward 54. I was monitored throughout the night and saw the Consultant the following day I had an MRI which showed I did not have a stroke and I was discharged The speed I was dealt with to get me to the ward was amazing so my grateful thanks to the paramedics and Newark Hospital. As for Kings Mill everyone I came into contact with were cheerful and friendly . The ward was clean and the tea and meals greatly appreciated so thanks to the catering staff and cleaner. The doctors and nurses were wonderful I cannot believe I could have had better treatment anywhere else We are very fortunate to have Kings Mill and Newark Thank you

  5. Review titled Unacceptable wait time

Rated 1 star out of 5

I had a routine out patient appointment for 10:30. I was waning until 12:45 to be called. The 2 hour 15 minute wait time is unacceptable.

  6. Review titled Lovely lady

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Zoe - Posted on 17 July 2024

After having trouble getting a sick note after surgery the lady on reception at ward 14 today was very sympathetic and helped me get to where I needed to be. She was also as shocked as I was at the way I had been previously treated which was not anything to do with kingsmill hospital. All my treatment from start to finish has been fantastic and I can't thank the staff enough. On gynecology ward and day case.

  7. Review titled Sleep Clinic - Autism Friendly - Exemplary Care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Andy - Posted on 08 July 2024

I received exemplary assistance and support from the sleep clinic at King's Mill and communication and information provision was first class all the way through my journey with them. From emails which were responded to promptly and with appropriate advice / assistance to the sleep consultant who I saw who considered my needs as an autistic patient and who clearly had some prior knowledge of how to engage with and support an autistic patient, however mild those autistic traits may be. The staff on reception and nurses in the clinic were always willing to offer me options if I was struggling with light / noise / other people etc which was fantastic. I can't recommend the sleep clinic here enough. Compassionate, knowledgeable, responsive and diligent. Thankyou.

Arrived on the evening of 13/7/24 with a nasty head wound. The considerate Egyptian doctor who did my stitches made an excellent job of it. the wound is now barely visible. Thanks for skillful treatment!

  9. Review titled Great care given

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Trudy Trafford - Posted on 03 July 2024

My Mum was on ward 12 and received great care from the nurses, kitchen ladies, cleaners and doctors, who are clearly working under a lot of pressure. The care Mum received after having a fall and breaking her hip, considering how stretched the NHS is, has been great, from everyone from the paramedics to the receptionists. Medication made her hallucinate and she called me at midnight terrified and in a real state. I rang the hospital and the receptionist was amazing and kept trying the ward until she got through to make sure I could let them know how upset Mum was. They allowed my Dad to go and calm her down and looked after him as well. It’s obvious that the NHS is broken but the people who work within the NHS deserve a medal, they are doing their best against all the odds and your efforts are very much appreciated. Thank you.
