  1. Review titled Superb treatment and care.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Michael Mills - Posted on 31 August 2023

I was admitted to A and E, teatime of Sunday 23 July/2023, to cut things short, the service I received from everyone, may have saved my life! On arrival I had a temperature of 40.6, in severe pain,i had many tests and scans and ultra, had one cancelled op day,no fault of the hospital I hasten to add,2nd op day had badly damaged and leaking Gall bladder removed, which was seriously affecting my other organs and full of stones, plus removal of an umbilical hernia at the same time. Fortunately as I write this, I am well on my way to full fitness. I wish to give a massive thanks to all associated with a and e and to those on ward 5, from cleaning and tea trolley staff and everyone else upwards, you are all fabulous. Thank you.

  2. Review titled Immense pressure

Rated 2 stars out of 5

It is so clear to see first hand sat in the waiting room how critically overworked and underpaid NHS staff are. You can see it in their performance and contact with patients. I sat waiting for 4+ hrs in A&E due to moderate kidney pain. When I arrived I was advised a 2hr waiting time. I am not complaining about the wait times, as I know patients are seen to in order of clinical need. However, the seating available in the A&E waiting area are absolutely unbearable. They would be most uncomfortable to sit in for any period of time, let alone a 4+hr plus period. I am also obese, weighing 21st, so the chair was even more uncomfortable. I ended up discharging myself as I was in pain but had been offered no pain relief whilst I waited, and I started to get pain in my hips, legs and bottom from sitting on the uncomfortable chair for so long. I had some basic blood and urine tests done, but other than that received no other care before I left. I am now at home, my pain is worsening, and no doubt this will probably get worse and I will have to re-turn to A&E at another time.

  3. Review titled Fantastic service provided by fantastic people.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Lesley Campbell - Posted on 07 June 2023

I needed to attend this a&e for the first time at this hospital. Given the poor experiences I had at the London hospital near where we used to live, I was resigned to having a long wait and be seen by disinterested and rude staff. But not at all at James Paget. From the moment I hobbled in till I left, diagnosed and treated, 2 hours later, I was met with nothing but kindness, patience, helpfulness and efficiency by all the staff members I came into contact with - receptionists, triage nurse, porters, X-ray staff, treating nurse and security. The Triage Nurse , the treating nurse and the security man all went out of their way to assist me getting around instead of just waiting for a free porter. I also witnessed the reception staff doing the same for others too and in such a kind manner. Always looking at what the patient needed as opposed to what their job was. Fabulous. Thank you so much all!

  4. Review titled Such a dedicated staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Ernest Rollings - Posted on 09 May 2023

I went in to hospital as an emergency admission with a strangulated hernia. I am 87 so was quite worried about having a general anaesthetic but a team of 9 doctors looked after me and saw me through the surgery and I was back on my feet the next day and home with a very neat scar. Such a caring group of professionals and they have given me my life back in the garden after 2 years with the hernia through lockdown. Thanks again for your dedication and care. Ernie

  5. Review titled A smooth ordeal!

by Andrew Parker - Posted on 16 May 2023

After suffering some symptoms similar to a stroke I called 111, they advised upon assessment I would need an Ambulance sending to be sure I was ok. The crew arrived, and its these guys I'm most grateful for. Wish I could name them! Calm, super friendly & very professional, all three of them, including one student Paramedic, very impressed by all! Once I'd been assessed at the A & E said student stayed with me, till we were all sure where I was going next & then took me where I needed to go. Had a bit of a wait after that but I didn't mind at all. The Doctor's & all staff were professional & friendly. We're lucky to have you all guys!

  6. Review titled Excellent maternity care.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Diane Walker - Posted on 03 June 2023

My daughter was admitted for an induction of labour in her 1st pregnancy last Thursday 25th May 2023. Although the initial ward she was on did appear short staffed and extremely busy, I cannot fault the care she received especially on the labour ward where she stayed from Sunday 28th in the afternoon to Monday 30th when she gave birth at 4.06am - all the midwives involved in her care were kind, extremely knowledgeable and kept all of us informed of every step during her labour and delivery. I can’t praise them highly enough and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them, especially in the light of recent adverse media coverage.

  7. Review titled disappointing - go to the n and n if you can

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 22 May 2023

I found the staff to be rude and unsympathetic. This was in stark contrast to my experience at the n and n a few day previously. Though the Paget is significantly closer to me the N and N were so much more reassuring, sympathetic and polite. I would much rather take the hour long journey there than have to deal with the obnoxious staff at the James Paget. Fortunately I am able to do this and I can only feel sorry for the people who do not have that option.

  8. Review titled Labour and delivery

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Abbie - Posted on 22 May 2023

I come into hospital last week to have my little boy, nothing but pure love and dedication from the midwives that took great care to look after me aswell as my little boy, I had to be rushed for a emergency c section as I was progressing and the midwife that done 1-1 care with me and she delivered and took care of my baby boy was a absolute angel, my anxiety hit in hard and she was the most supportive lady I have ever met, once I had my son I spent 24 hours on ward 11 and those midwives on there was also brilliant, they helped me to get my boy to latch on, they helped me in regards to my mental health, they stayed and actually spent time with me if I needed to talk to them, I generally couldn't fault my labour and delivery, I'm now 1 week postpartum and my boy is thriving and I'm healing so well and being so mobile.
