  1. Review titled Amazing staff.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

The staff at A+E at Ipswich Hospital were amazing. Seen, treated and discharged within 90 minutes, all taken very seriously and listened to. Constant reassurance throughout the treatment, lots of advice given and a smile from every staff member. This hospital is absolutely brilliant.

  2. Review titled A New Experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by John Lindley - Posted on 05 August 2024

I found my visit and treatment in both Raedwald and Lavenham wards to be first rate; everything was explained in layman's terms and any questions were answered. I found the personnel, from the Surgeons to the dinner ladies, to be caring, friendly, considerate and reassuring. It was my first overnight stay in hospital and I was treated as though I was the only one there (at one point, I was) but that aside, there was a genuine feeling that people cared about me and that I mattered; when one is in uncharted territory, as I was, that was a good feeling. My sincere appreciation goes out to all concerned with my treatment; I feel I was in the best hands and in some of the most genial company that I've experienced. Many thanks indeed for making my stay (though not always comfortable) as pleasant an experience as I could expect given the circumstances. John Lindley

The doctor I saw at1540 on 12/07/24 was exceptionally good. She was very knowledgeable, calm, unhurried and inspired great confidence. Could not have been better.

  4. Review titled Be prepared for a long wait

Rated 2 stars out of 5

Attended the Eye Clinic today with my husband for a post op check up. He was called by a nurse for an eye test fairly quickly, then waited and waited. After well over an hour he called me to come into the back area of the clinic to wait there. Long story short we arrived at 10.10 am and left at 1.30 pm. Wouldn't be so bad if someone kept you in the loop - we understand there may be emergencies to be dealt with but there were at least 4 patients waiting with us who had appointments around 10 am and were still sitting there over 2 hours later. Sadly you have no choice but to sit it out. Hopefully we won't have to return.

  5. Review titled NHS at its best

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Julie - Posted on 15 July 2024

Not too busy when I arrived at A&E After triage I was sent to UTC, assessed, x-rayed to rule out a fracture and referred to physio, then given advice and an exercise leaflet all within an hour and a half. All staff from receptionist to doctor and radiologist were very professional and had a caring and friendly manner. A big thank you! What would we do without the NHS?

  6. Review titled Fantastic service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I came to Ipswich Hospital to give birth on Sunday evening as Colchester was closed, I was very nervous as I had never been there before and didn't know any of the staff etc. I would just like to say a massive thank you to who looked after me whilst I was in the maternity ward, my labour was quick and efficient and I was in and out of the hospital within 14 hours which I think is such good time. I was treated so well and there was always someone on hand and near if I needed anything which was so reassuring. Overall such a great time which made my birth easier I believe. Thank you all again for your fantastic work!!

  7. Review titled Completely dismissive

Rated 1 star out of 5

3 trips to A&E in 5 days, two of which directed by GP for immediate examination. Presenting with an increasing list of neurological symptoms, doctors seem to only care about 1 symptom at any given time and refuse to acknowledge that they're related. Half my symptoms couldn't be explained but they refuse any request for an MRI, despite my GP sending me up there for that specific outcome. Was told they can't do MRIs in A&E and refused to give information about where I'd need to be referred to in order for that to happen. Eventually told that they don't do MRI scans at Ipswich but I know they do because I've had one years prior. No compassion shown by doctors, nurses couldn't care less. All seem quite happy to stand around and talk about their holiday plans though while wait times are in the 4-6 hour range.

  8. Review titled The second dire visit to A&E

Rated 1 star out of 5

Firstly reception staff lovely and helpful, they really tried to help us, and also a very nice nurse, however the serious nature of my husband's condition over looked, despite concerns from our GP, also Out of Hours that he may have beginnings of Sepsis. Once I had asked what the hospital policy was for spotting early sepsis suddenly the blood test that my husband was due to have which we had to wait up to four hours for, to see if doctor would order, was done. FIrst test showed no Sepsis, however we were told next test would be there in an hour, we sat for a very long time, (yes we know the NHS is over stretched), but my husband was deterioriating, I knew he had an infection which was spreading, he had the shakes even on the antibiotics he was on. Eventually as he felt so ill and still 14 people ahead of us we went home, (first asking again, the helpful reception staff if the doctor would be able to access from the surgery the second test). Having gone to GP today it all showed up in second test, we explained we had gone home and removed cannula ourselves. My husband should have been put on an IV drip, and the doctor not just the nurse should have examined his rapidly expanding facial infection, triggered by insect bite, his swollen glands and symptoms had come on in two hours, and he was already on an antibiotic, none of these red flags were noted. This remind me of my own visit to A&E three years ago, where you missed my three serious brain bleeds, and sent me home, despite the fact I had been unconcious and said how poorly I felt. Your hospital feels dangerous. Today he has been treated we hope it is not to late to get on top of this infection. Your hospital needs monitoring and supervision and more support for staff.
