Review titled Needs an update
by septemberpg96 - Posted on 16 September 2022
I am a wheelchair user, unable to walk and staying at the center. When i mentioned the issues around accessibility I was asked to call and told that I could give feedback through Care Opinion. So, the majority of the equipment is old and not suitable: Mirrors - positioned too high cannot see through them. Sinks - again positioned in a way that makes them very very difficult to use, sort of have to use them at a slant. Soap dispensers - too high, difficult to use. Paper towels - again too high, cannot reach them Grab rails - wrong position to grab, cannot hold them to adjust shower head height, cannot adjust temperature. Water - either too hot or too cold Lights - cannot access the light switch to turn on/off lights Doors - too heavy to open/close Garden - again door too heavy to use - need to ask staff or family to help I feel that the whole center needs an upgrade, modernisation and a rethink about accessibility. The care is all fine and the staff are all nice. We have a weekly meeting and these will be discussed but I've been told that the more feedback we give the more chance there is of change, so I am giving my feedback.

Dear patient I am sorry for the delay in responding to your feedback. Thank you for taking the time to give important feedback on the physical environment at the NRC that you feel needs updating. I will give this feedback to the estates and facilities team who we work with at Edgware Hospital and will look at all the suggestions you have made to see what can be changed. Unfortunately some things such as the doors cannot be changed as they are needed as part of fire safety regulations but there may be some things that we can change or improve over time. I have discussed the doors to the garden and will follow this up again as the estates team were going to look at this. I was pleased to read that the care provided has been good and the staff have been nice to you
