  1. Review titled Unacceptable performance

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Paul Winpenny - Posted on 24 July 2024

We attended the A&E on a Tuesday evening at ten o’clock, we finally got to see a doctor at five in the morning. The place is also filthy. With a pile of soggy rubbish left in the middle of the waiting room the entire eight hours we were there. This while staff sat behind desks at many points doing nothing. This is not a lack of funding problem, it is quite simply down to poor management at department and overall management levels.

I was in DRI with bladder cancer. The treatment and care was superb. It could not have been better. I came back to out patients where I found the surgeon and nurses extremely caring. It is a wonderful hospital. Thank you.

I nervously attended the women's hospital outpatients department today for a colposcopy. I had no need to worry as the staff were amazing from the moment I arrived at reception through to leaving the hospital. Thank you all so much.

  5. Review titled Exceptional caring midwife

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Amber - Posted on 27 July 2024

A truly amazing midwife understood my struggles and really listened and understood me like I've never experienced from anyone else during my pregnancy. She was so funny and despite how I was feeling she made my night always bringing joy to the situation. She really listened and made me feel heard and made sure to advocate my feelings and wishes forward. Such a kind genuine wholesome midwife and she deserves all the recognition in the world. So greatful to meet her and support me through the night.

  6. Review titled insoluble

by Anonymous - Posted on 03 June 2024

We had to use the emergency clinic for my daughter and myself a few times. I have never experienced such a situation in my life. Terrible service, never a solution. They make you wait for hours and send you without doing any tests or directing you to the clinic. My daughter had a Lego piece stuck in her nose. They asked me to watch a video on YouTube and try it. I was shocked. Frankly, I sense a harassment policy. I have been trying to benefit from the health conditions in this country for a year. Moreover, they charged me a very high amount of health fee for a visa before I even entered the country. The health system scares people and does not inspire confidence.

  7. Review titled Totally disjointed care from nursing staff

Rated 1 star out of 5

by John - Posted on 20 May 2024

Credit where it is due. Firstly the surgeon and anaesthetist were superb and most of the nursing staff friendly. The food served was also very acceptable. From there it goes downhill fast The overall feeling by myself and he 3 other patients in my ward was that the 4 day stay was marred totally by disjointed communication. Asking staff questions about time scales ,medication, discharge information made it very clear to all of us that staff did not have a clue about answers to questions so they avoided them or made something up and made a hasty retreat. When you are a patient you feel that all control of your life is taken away from you. The big problem is supervision. We never saw a sister in 4 days .Everyone , all ranks of staff seemed scared to make any decision. Fobbing of patients and disappearing as soon as possible seemed to be the culture in this hospital. Prescribed medicines. ,brought in by patients in my ward were listed , and then locked away, ignored and not dispensed. The answer given in ever case was " they are not listed" It was only on my discharge day that a new staff nurse appeared, checked on my drugs list and said " I don't understand, they are listed" I then told her I had been told they were waiting for the doctor to come and discharge me and have the discharge drugs issued. I was speechless when she came back with the discharge letter and drugs in her hand and and told me all this had been completed yesterday ! ! So much for shortage of beds. Competent staff who are properly supervised would go some way towards bringing this hospital into the 21st century. If these were isolated incidents I would not be too concerned. This could be just one badly supervised ward. But my son and grandson had been in patients at DRI this year and their experiences were disturbingly similar Did they do review ? No I think they were just glad to get away from Doncaster Royal Infirmary Having run my own business with 55 employees, until retirement, I would have been bankrupt if I had run it like Doncaster Royal Infirmary.

  9. Review titled Ward s12 ENT excellent staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Clare Whate - Posted on 30 May 2024

I have just come out of hospital today after a short stay on ward s12. The staff not only made me feel so welcome and looked after but they did an outstanding job with difficult patients and everyone of them were friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was so nice on there because of the staff. The doctors and pharmacist did everything they could to help and reassure me. Fantastic ward with outstanding staff. So grateful for them all.

  10. Review titled DRI is not interested in patients

Rated 1 star out of 5

by John - Posted on 08 September 2024

I left a review after a stay in Urology in May 2024. I also filled out a review requested by the hospital It was that , whilst the consultant was first class the nursing care was not fit for purpose. Drugs were locked away although they had been fully listed on the form filled out during pre operation hospital visitI also responded to a request for a review when I left hospital. As with all other reviews they never receive a response from senior management. Obviously asking for reviews is part of a "window dressing process" but they are ignored. A retired hospital consultant wrote a press article in June saying " whichever party is elected into government they will throw billions at the NHS but it will be swallowed up in more senior managers appointments." Doncaster and Bassetlaw has a huge Number of senior managers but not many effective ones.
