Review titled Brilliant practice

I was seen in the early hours of the morning after vomiting excessively at home. The care I received was first class, I could not have asked for any better. All the staff were caring, explaining things and responding to any need e.g. fluids were given. The NHS receives much criticism, but much praise is needed instead. The staff must have been working several hours already , yet one would not have realised this, as each patient was seen as an individual and treated with respect and care by all who saw them. This was the NHS at its very best and all praise and thanks to the staff.

I had gall bladder removal surgery on Postbridge Ward and had to stay overnight. From arrival right up until I left the ward it was managed by extremely competent and very caring staff. I cannot thank everyone enough for the overall treatment and care I received from everyone on recovery and Postbridge ward. Thank you so much.

Review titled How do you do it?

I was admitted to Merrivale, via A&E at the back end of Jan 2024. I witnessed the A&E Dept undergoing what could be best described as a challenging time, as was reported in the press. In that time, some 24 hours before going to a ward, I witnessed the staff showing the true colours of the NHS. Professionalism, Compassion and Dedication, and, whilst all the time with smiles on their faces. It was truly an unforgettable experience. Once admitted to Merrivale, that same work ethic was wholly visible on every member of the ward staff. From The porters and housekeepers to the HCAs and Nurses. Nothing seemed to much for them. Requests were dealt with promptly and nothing seemed too much effort for them. My time there, left me with the feeling of their genuine care and interest in my well being. I was treated as if I were an old friend they hadn't seen for many years. Everyone was polite and friendly, and in some respects I was sad to leave. In my time I have met and spoken to many people who will nod their head and be full of small talk just for the sake of it. I met none of those at Derriford, not one! I shall remember my time amongst all the wonderful people in the Hospital, not for the reason I was there in the first place, but for the amazing people that work there. It fills me with pride that there are still people like that in the country and they are in abundance at Derriford. Well done NHS and Thank You and I wish I could thank everyone personally but I just hope this will go some way towards it.

Unfortunately, is unacceptable in a post- op recovery unit to be absolutely freezing. Even with 2 blankets on, the child in recovery was shivering.

We have recently been experiencing some issues with our heating and ventilation in the Childrens Theatre unit. This has meant that sometimes the temperature has been very cold. We have working closely with the Estates team to correct this as quickly as possible day to day, and apologise for any discomfort this may have caused to our patients Thanks Katy Griffiths Matron Theatres

Review titled Wonderful service

Picking my mother up after having treatment in the pain clinic. The staff could not have been more helpful. She was given a new appointment in February for a minor op, and told we could go to the walk in clinic for preop assessment. Brought down from Rowen House in the shuttle bus, my mother is very disabled and has a lot of mobility issues. The driver helped us, and then onto the pre op assement clinic, where on arrival the lady behind the desk could not have been more helpful. She told us just to sit and she then came and sat next to my mum and helped go through what would happen and what was needed. We didn’t need to wait very long before she was seen. Everyone in the unit were so helpful and kind. It was a pleasure and we left with everything sorted out. A lift back on the shuttle bus to get back to my car, again the driver was so helpful. Can’t recommend them all enough. Thank you so much

I am hugely impressed and grateful for the stemi surgery I received as an emergency after a heart attack at home, late on 1st January, followed by a 2nd and 3rd night on the recovery ward. It was amazing to see teh surgical team waiting when my ambulance arrived. All credit to the ambulance team too, an essential part of the collaboration. Many many thanks for everyone's dedication and efficiency.

Everything went very well, attentive and sympathetic staff as part of the assessment. Consultant and anesthetist knowledgeable and compassionate. Theatre staff pre-op great putting me at ease. Recovery staff great, couldn't do enough. Made sure I fully understood what I needed to do at home and provided dressings, ointment etc. to deal with the results of my surgery. All in all what was a daunting prospect turned into a very positive experience. Thank you.
