  1. Review titled Worst services

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Maria Riann - Posted on 30 August 2024

This is the second time I’m coming to emergency at City Hospital. But I will resume my review just to the last visit. Came at hospital with a severe abdominal pain afteer the GP diagnosed me wrong with UTI. Came at 10pm and there were people waiting from 7pm. By 12am a nurse call my name and took some blood and urine test. From 12am till 7 am no response from doctors or nurses. At one point, by 5am the pain just got worse and I went to receptionist which referred me to nurses. While I enter into the department 4 nurses were chatting and having a laugh. Fair enough. The problem is that in those hours of waiting, the problem is that not even one nurse came in the waiting area and check on us if we needed a glass of water. Water was not available, the food machine was empty and the receptionist was no where to be seen from 12am till 5am. I knocked on the receptionist door window with no response. Going back to when I went into department for some painkillers at 5am, I’ve looked around and almost 3 beds were empty while 20 of us were waiting for more than 7h. However, in the end a nurse came to do the register (at this point no doctor had seen me beside the nurse at 12am). After the nurse did the register she said the waiting list is 8h to 9h. I had the audacity to ask her why the waiting list is 8 to 9h when I clearly seen 3 empty beds just at their department, 4 nurses having a nice proper laugh and a doctor in his office scrolling through his computer, not seeing any patients. She said they are busy. Fair enough again. I said that maybe I’m wrong and I don’t understand how emergency services should work and who I’m to challenge their attitude. But, how is it possible that in more than 8h of waiting, not even one of them came and asked if we need a glass of water (giving the fact that was no water dispenser). How is possible to be 3 beds free in the department I’ve been and a 80 years old lady is allowed to wait in cold with basic facilities from 7pm till 4am. Blame me, but I feel they are not in “emergency” they are not short staffed (maybe on doctors, definitely not on nurses with terrible attitude). I feel they are doing in purpose so we will not be encouraged to come here anymore. End if story. At 10am, that’s after 12h a doctor consult me for approximately 5 minutes then refer me tk another hospital as she can’t say what is it. After 12h that’s all I received. She asked me to wait for to book the appointment at the other hospital. I was awake from 40h did not eat nothing, couldn’t wait anymore. She called me 2 and half hour later telling me she got an appointment. Imagine, to wait in there another 2 and half hour for another appointment. I would be dead now. Conclusion, go to your GP, go to another hospital which treats patients with respect and dignity. They don’t want to work in there and they definitely not doing this jobs because of love . I’m suprise no one is checking them. Thanks for reading.

  2. Review titled Excellent Care by Doctor that listens.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

This is for cardiology, so not impressed that its not on the list of departments. This was a follow up to an invasive angiogram 2 months ago, service there was excellent too. I attended a 09.00 am appointment, which was expert, thorough, perfectly detailed to me, perfect bedside manner too, I cannot fault nor speak too highly of the knowledgeable lady Doctor, that continued from the initial Scan to invasive minor procedure, to todays follow up. Suffice it to state, I have Private Medical, it costs >£2k per annum, but so impressed am I with this Doctor & her nurses, I would not change from NHS.

  3. Review titled The difference the Nurses and Doctors Make

Rated 5 stars out of 5

The staff on ward d27 are simply the best! Also in Amu. Thank you to all the nurses and doctors who helped me through probably the most difficult time of my life. The admission of new patients as late as 3am does make it really difficult to get proper sleep but at the end of the day they needed a bed as did I! The professionalism and care I received from the majority of the staff was 2nd to none, they were so empathetic which in my case helped me ten fold, I was a patient not a number and I was really, really cared for. I really looked forward to seeing certain nurses and doctors every single day out of the 12 I was in there for, even if it was to find a vein which is always a mega challenge because mine are so small so it’s never straight forward at all. Thank you again d27 💙

I would like to thank the staff on both amuand d17 for the exemplary care I received during my recent stay. Both the respiratory and cardiac teams were amazing. Thank you to the nursing staff for going that extra mile and with unfailing support even down to the unofficial occupational therapy. I cannot thank you enough

  6. Review titled Great care and excellent staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I became ill over the weekend and by Tuesday, I ended up calling 111. After not hearing back from my GP, I was advised by 111 in the evening to head to the A&E department. The reception staff took my details promptly, and the wait time was relatively short (around 40 minutes in my case). I was seen and assessed quickly and ended up being kept overnight before being moved into AMU 1. Several tests were conducted, and I was discharged two days later in much better health than when I arrived. The doctors, nurses, and all other staff were amazing, with only one or two exceptions. This review is my way of saying thank you for being so kind, caring, and compassionate.

  8. Review titled Speedy and thorough investigation

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I was referred to the City hospital pulmonary department when a city wide screening found a nodule in my lung. This was as terrifying as you’d expect but with speed, care and great kindness. I was given several further tests including a PET scan and a consultant appointment within 10 days and had an all clear in record time. I keep hearing that the NHS is broken but not it seems at the City Hospital where effective teams seem to work extremely hard to provide diagnosis and treatment as quickly and efficiently as they can. My son thanks to all of you.

I saw a Dermatologist on a Sunday. She took time to find out about my condition and discussed treatment options. She gave me the treatment injections needed. A very professional service. Much appreciated.
