I had an outpatient appointment here for the first time. My experience with both the General Reception and Radiography Reception staff left a lot to be desired. Surly, curt, unhelpful would be the words that spring to mind. Ignored me when I stood at the desk, wouldn’t make eye contact, told me to move away as ‘I have confidential information on my desk here’. Finally gave vague directions to where I needed to be. Totally could not be bothered and talked to me as if I was an inconvenience. Really, these staff need some serious training in how to engage with customers. Please don’t blame understaffing/underfunding. I work in 999 services, we don’t treat people like that despite being under the same pressures. Serious failure of management going on here.

I wasn’t looking forward to going back to Calderdale Royal, but I was so deaf and feeling totally miserable. I saw a lovely doctor In ENT and he was wonderful, even working through his lunch to get me sorted, so I could have a good Christmas. I was sent because I am deaf but it had got a lot worse, my doctors refused to do anything as I had a baha … this resulted in me turning up with fully blocked ears that had to be cleaned before I could have a hearing test! The Doctor also pulled this out of the bag going above and beyond! The nurse who saw me (at the minute squeezing me in) was also amazing she cleared so much wax from my ears I could have made candles with it! I would like to thank the doctor, the nurse who saw me with no appointment as well as the student nurse who had the horrid task of looking down my wax encrusted canals! ( good luck with the graduation in May) I have lived in Halifax for most of my life but moved away and recently moved back up north… I had fallen off the Halifax list and was in tears needing help…the GP refused to do anything saying see the Pharmacist! At Calderdale Royal ENT … these guys pulled out all the stops! I was scared, uncomfortable and really not looking forward to this appointment as back when I was a child going to appointments like this weren’t nice and I had sore ears for weeks after. But everyone who dealt with me today was super gentle, caring and explained everything throughly making sure of my understanding all the way through the appointment. Absolutely fabulous thank you so much, you have no idea what this has meant to me and how much things have changed already… I am looking forward to the future and a hearing device upgrade! Thanks again … have an absolutely fabulous Christmas.

My husband Danny was admitted on 31st December until 23rd February (nearly 8 weeks) He had sepsis, pneumonia & multiple organ failure!! The care & attention from the doctors & nurses has been outstanding!! They really do perform miracles. The wilson family will never forget.

I was given an appointment on a Sunday for the ultrasound dept. This was really helpful as I did not need to take time off work. The staff were lovely and professional. To be able to come on a Sunday and get an appointment so quickly was really good service.

12hr wait with no outcome. No communication between tests to next step. Waited 6hrs for CT scan then another 6hrs to be told nothing can be done due to no doctors available; to go to stroke clinic 2 days later due to weekend. Mum sat in A & E from 12:15pm to just past 12 midnight with no food or drink. Vending machines of order. Water dispenser out of order. If communicated was better we could have arranged for provisions to be brought to her. There is no care for anyone waiting in that room. Why couldn't we have been advised soon after the CT scan of the situation?

I attended Calderdale A&E department late this afternoon after falling down the stairs at work and hurting my ankle, I would like to that everyone who helped me from the receptionist, the triage nurse, to the porter who wheeled my back from x-ray, the people who carried out the x-ray and especially the gentleman who talked through my x-ray and helped me out of the department when finished. Everyone was extremely professional, funny and caring!! I just wish I had names to mention!! Thank you for such a positive experience in your A&E department. As much as I hope I don’t need to return any time soon, I wouldn’t be worried if I had to!! Thank you!!

Attended A&E yesterday accompanying my partner. Staff were all highly professional and absolutely open about the reasons for waiting times and accommodations that they have to make to manage the large number of patients. Heard a number of patients and relatives playing down the hospital and the NHS in general during our time there however staff manage these extra challenges with compassion and patience. Well done Calderdale A&E team.

On 28 September was referred by my GP to Calderdale hospital as my heart rate was dangerously low. I was seen within 15 minutes and taken to Cardiology where I had an X-ray and various tests. An hour or so later was seen by the consultant who decided I needed a pacemaker fitting. The following morning I had the operation and, so far, everything is going well. It wasn't not only the speed of the action taken which impressed me but also the patience, professionalism and the care they showed throughout my stay. I cannot fault anything at all what a great bunch of staff. Thank you for everything.

I made to be very welcome and very looked after the staff couldn't do enough for me to make my stay the most comfortable it could be! All very friendly, kind and caring! Thank you for looking after on ward 5b!!
