  1. Review titled Nurses great

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Chris - Posted on 01 June 2024

The staff on ward 11 were great and very attentive though I had very little feedback from the surgical team. The food served on the ward however was not very good. There were options for gluten free, vegan etc but no option for anyone avoiding processed food. I asked what option they had for someone who doesn't eat grains, sugar or seed oils and there were very little only a couple of low nutrient or high carb meals available. Seeing how type 2 diabetes consumes more than 10% of the NHS budget I find it incredible in this day and age you can't get a healthy low carb real food meal in a place supposedly making us better.

  2. Review titled Outstanding Paediatric Department

Rated 5 stars out of 5

We rushed our son into A&E around 9:30am on Friday morning with suspected appendicitis. The paediatric team in A&E were lovely and quick to treat our son. He was moved to the Children's Decisions Area on Ward 32 where he received pain relief and doctor diagnosis. He was then moved to Ward 30 where he could rest in a proper bed under nurse observation whilst waiting to see the surgical team. The surgeon came to see our son at around 5:30pm and told us he would be having the surgery to remove his appendix the same day, the anaesthetist then came to see him around 6:30pm and then he was taken to theatre at 8pm. The surgical team were phenomenal, not only did they make our son feel reassured that everything would be ok, they also did a great job at reassuring me too. I cannot thank the whole team enough.

  3. Review titled Lovely staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Visited A&E and was seen within an hour. As it is such a large hospital I feared a long wait, however the team were efficient. The staff were all friendly, especially the doctor who saw me. Thanks for your help!

  4. Review titled Above and beyond care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Chris - Posted on 20 April 2024

We were referred by our district cardiac nurse with concerns of reflux with our baby daughter. Upon arrival at ward 32 it soon became apparent that the root cause was complications with her heart after her recent surgery. Unable to be transferred to the cardiac ward at Leeds the nurses and doctors were absolutely world class during a 6 day stay before getting transferred to Leeds. They were dealing with a situation that required specific knowledge and attention. It brings me to tears thinking of the effort that individual nurses went to. At times it was organised for there to be one nurse in sole care of our daughter. At other times there were multiple nurses in our room helping out. The doctors were unbelievably compassionate and parent centred throughout - conferring with her consultants ongoing and relaying any information immediately. These words fall short in extending my gratitude appropriately. It was a very tense and traumatic time for me and her mother and I cannot ever repay the debt of the care we received during this experience. Our district cardiac nurse even came to spend time with us during our stay. Thank you so much. We continue to receive world class care for our daughter who only stands a chance thanks to the care of the NHS. You don’t know you need this care until you need it and when you do - it is there.

  5. Review titled Complete Incompetence

Rated 1 star out of 5

by John Hulse - Posted on 18 April 2024

I had a phone call on the morning of 04.04.24 cancelling my appointment of the afternoon of that day. My appointment was rearranged for 3.45 0n 18.04.24. On my arrival at the reception there was no record of my appointment, so consequently I was refused treatment. This is just not good enough. Unfortunately, I did not take the name of the incompetent person who can only do half a job. I will ensure that I do so in future and I recommend that anyone receiving a telephone cancellation also takes the name of the caller.

  6. Review titled Excellent care and attention

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I have a recurring eye problem which flared up on Wednesday 20th March. Phoned the Eye Clinic on morning of 21st and appointment made for later that day. I went through the various procedures, four in total and left the department, after a diagnosis and with a prescription, in under one hour. Longest wait came at the pharmacy, but they were very busy. From the first contact at reception through to finally leaving the Clinic everyone was pleasant, caring and professional. A credit to the Eye Clinic, the hospital itself and the very much under pressure NHS - when it works it is an excellent and much valued service. Thank you to all concerned.

  7. Review titled Relatives line

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Tracey McKenna - Posted on 14 March 2024

I had a pretty awful experience at the BRI with my mum who went into A&E being sick and finding out she had lung cancer which had spread to her brain. She died in hospital 2 weeks later. My view of the BRI is that it is vastly understaffed and barely keeping up. However during all the thinks which went wrong, and there were a lot. The relatives line was an absolute life line. I do not know what I would have done without them. Its not well advertised so I would just like to say to anyone who has a loved one staying at BRI look up this number. I would also like to Thank them for making a really tough time just a little bit better.

  10. Review titled Dirty

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 24 February 2024

I visited A&E today after suffering horrible chest pains in the hope that I would be given some reassurance it was nothing serious. Well after two hours I couldn't stand it any longer and had to leave. The staff were rude and unhelpful. Their was an old lady in by herself in the waiting room and she had to ask another patient to get her some tissue as her nose was bleeding everywhere. The staff just left her. The place is physically dirty. I could see the surfaces had been wiped with a dirty cloth after seeing black smears all over the place. Blood on the floors. I was taken 'through the back' via a triage room that had blood on the bed to go and get some bloods taken, the man who did the bloods didn't wear gloves and after leaving the room I was told to sit in the smallest most cramped waiting room with 50+ people sat waiting for a doctor. The room smelt dirty. There were people being sick everywhere, now I understand people are ill but come on put them in a side room. So yes after two hours I left, still with my chest pains. Came home and took an antibacterial shower as I left feeling as disgusting as the department.
