I'm totally over the moon with the treatment and care I have received from Barnsley hospital, my condition was dealt with swiftly and the care and treatment I have received has been a credit to the hospital, I cannot praise everyone who was involved, and I mean everyone enough, God bless you all and many thanks for all that you do, a special mention to those on ward 36 for their first class care looking after me whilst I was there

  5. Review titled Dad felt abandoned and no communication

Rated 2 stars out of 5

    by S Needham - Posted on 23 September 2022

My dad had a Turbt. I telephoned at 7.30pm and spoke to someone in recovery who told me he had just left and gone to Ward 33 and that he should be going home very soon as there were no problems. At 9.30 as I hadn't heard anything I tried to phone the ward but kept being diverted back to the switchboard as no one answered and just kept going round in circles. I was just about to drive to the hospital as I was getting very worried when just after 10pm after having not been able to speak to anyone fortunately my dad was able to phone me and I went to collect him. He hadn't been able to before as he couldn't reach the iPad and no one had been in to see him for an hour. A nurse had come in around 9pm and said she would be back soon. He said he just felt abandoned. He's not the sort who likes to bother people either. When I arrived to collect him he was just getting dressed and the nurse who was there said everything was okay and he could go. There was no information as to what to expect after the procedure so that we knew if all was well or not. He had surgical stockings and nothing was said about how long to wear them etc. So he has come home and we don't really know what to look out for. The main thing I am annoyed about is the lack of communication. When you take your dad into hospital at 11.30am and then no one rings you at all and it's nearly 12 hours later you start to worry. It's not asking for much to have a quick phone call just to say he's on the ward and what to expect in the next few hours.
