Review titled Great experience
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Steve McPhie - Posted on 03 March 2023
I had my regular eye check with the diabetic clinic outpatient dept this morning (08:40) and the nurse who dealt with me was excellent. This is first time since coming to the clinic that anyone has explained the process in full. The lady this morning explained the process comprehensively and clearly, she took time to tell me exactly what to expect and the reasoning behind the photos etc. A great experience overall and she is a credit to the department and hospital. Please pass on my thanks to her and the wider team. Kind regards and thanks

Review titled Appalling communication
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Julie BROTHERTON - Posted on 18 February 2023
My mother-in-law is on ward 19 after having covid, she has dementia so my husband is her advocate. He was told by the hospital social worker that she would be discharged home as she is now medically fit. We took the day off work, everything was in place for the carers to visit and the OT's on her arrival home. We got everything prepared then the call came that she would be later than said. We couldn't wait past a certain time so the social worker said he would make sure that she would be home for the original time of 2pm. She never arrived so I called ward 19 to be told that she wasn't coming home til the following day. Neither the social worker or the ward had the decency to inform my husband. When my husband tried to contact the social worker there was no reply so he called the manager she was as much help as the rest. We now have to take more time off work because of the sheer and utter incompetency of the social work team and discharge team. The social work team are there to over see what's best for the patient however it's clear that they just want to cover their own backs. We see all the time about bed blocking on the news well perhaps if the people dealing with a patient could be more transparent and work towards what's best for the patient then perhaps thing would run more smoothly and there would be less wastage of the public purse. It appears to us that the system has little or no regard to the patient their family and what stress it brings to us. Perhaps the social workers should look at the cost to the economy when we have to take more time off work for the incompetent way they handle the situation. We will collect my mother-in-law ourselves because it's obvious that the discharge team and social workers haven't got a clue. On the positive side we have no complaints of her care by the nursing staff.

Review titled Thoroughly looked after
by Jennings15 - Posted on 21 February 2023
My dad had a replacement knee replaced as it was infected. He ended up staying on for 6 days after the procedure. I cannot praise the staff on this ward enough. My dad was thoroughly looked after and every need he had was seen to. Lovely staff and an excellent ward. Cannot thank them enough.

Review titled Great service amongst an nhs crisis
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Liesel - Posted on 05 January 2023
My son had a allergic reaction to something and I had to take him to Children's a&e. I really cannot fault the service received. Everyone from the receptionist, to the nurses, cleaners and doctors were extremely helpful and always friendly. They made sure my little one had toys to play with in our cubicle, they made sure he got a snack after a long waiting period, offered me something to drink and were very helpful and friendly whenever I saw someone or had questions. I was so grateful to the staff from yesterday.

High praise for the medical and admin staff of the Department for Older People and Stroke Medicine, for the professionalism, courtesy and assistance given to me on my recent visit. To me it was incredible how far the staff were prepared to pursue a problem to gain a satisfactory conclusion by showing patience and understanding.

Review titled Ward 33
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Sheila Lynch - Posted on 11 January 2023
What an amazing team on Ward 33. From going through A&E (who were also amazing) to being admitted, Barnsley DGH were outstanding. Nothing too much trouble, I was kept updated constantly with my treatment. Staff were incredible despite being short staffed they carried on and did a sterling job. Keep fighting for that pay rise/working conditions. You deserve everything and more. True angels on earth - Thank You!!!

Review titled Very positive experience
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Nicola Wall - Posted on 24 January 2023
My son went to children's A&E yesterday with a suspected broken thumb. All the staff we came into contact with were courteous and professional. All clinical areas looked clean and modern. We had an initial examination, x ray and cast fitted all within 90 minutes. Thank you to all the staff that made this such a positive experience for us.

Review titled Treatment in ED
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Lynn Jones - Posted on 06 January 2023
I had a very positive experience when being treated for a broken bone in my foot. I went from triage to nurse practitioner to x Ray to plastering to doctor and OT/Physio very quickly and efficiently. Everyone was friendly professional and explained my treatment at every stage. There was virtually no waiting time after the triage. I was extremely impressed especially after what I had watched on TV. It was the NHS at its best
