Review titled Surgery not fit for purpose - No service
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Val - Posted on 23 August 2024
It is almost impossible to get through to this surgery by phone. Everyday the recording is that there are no appointments and it’s reached its limits or doctors are sick. I then visited the surgery to get help but was told that I had to ring at 8am in the morning. Of course that didn’t work because the lines are saturated. I asked for an appointment for my husband to do a PSA test and was told to do it online . The only services provided online are GP referred blood tests and diabetes related. The systems in place are not working for patients and it is frustrating to have to deal with this surgery. This surgery is not fit for purpose !!

Good Afternoon, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I apologise for the dissatisfaction caused. Since Christmas the workload and patient requirements have increased dramatically. This is due to the hospital wait times still being back logged and the amount of reviews falling back on the GP's is huge. Because of this we have had to have a safe level of working limit to ensure each patient contact remains safe and efficient. Over the last few weeks due to sickness and higher demand the safe level has been reached very early in the day. We do advise that you contact us as early in the day as possible either via phone or our online form. We also offer a call back option meaning you do not need to stay on the line at 8am, we automatically contact you back when you get to number 1 in the queue. After the safe level has been hit we then have to signpost to alternative services unless we have already dealt with your issue before in Practice. I understand your frustrations but we do have to have this limit in place along with all other local Practices as a safety measure. If you would like to discuss further, please do not hesitate to get in contact and ask to speak to a Practice Coordinator. Kind Regards Patient and Clinical Services Manager Worthing Medical Group

Review titled Continuing poor service / standards
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 02 September 2024
Continuing poor service - losing confidence in management of my care. Long telephone wait calls seems now an accepted norm so.. In the past I have been given another patients medicince - feels slapdash. Recent experience of speaking with receptionist to book bloodtest was a horrid experience - rude and very defensive. Last straw was calling for test results this afternoon to be told by receptionist a GP looked at my results - cholesterol 6.9 - and to continue taking medication - no further action. worryingly I am not on cholesterol medication so. I was told by receptionist to call tomorrow for appointment to discuss with GP. If I hadnt chased this then my high cholesterol would go unchecked? I feel this just adds weight to my concern practice is in a chaotic and slapdash. I assume this is down to lack of staff etc but for a GP not to check my records, or mix me up with someone else? I would like your comments please.

Review titled Poor experience overall
Rated 2 stars out of 5

My experiences over the past 2 years haven't been good. I have called, spoken to a receptionist and been told a Dr will call back that day. I had no call back so called the next day and apparently there was no evidence of my call (this is not the first time this has happened) and had to repeat everything again. I was told I would get a call back but this didn't happen and I was sent a message to speak to a pharmacist. I did so and she was surprised when I discussed my symptons as she thought I needed to speak to a Dr. She recommended something I'd already tried and had made no difference. I waited months before I even spoke to the Dr as had been trying various 'remedies' as I know how stretched Dr's are, and knew it would have been difficult to see a Dr at this surgery. The surgery just give out regular medication without checking to see if you still need to take it and impossible to speak to anyone about this, and it should not be me checking in with them about this medication. The Nurse is supposed to check up yearly on something else I'm taking and never does! I know other surgeries are better as speak to friends and their experiences are far better with their practices. I know practices are very stretched but some are far worse than others, and sadly this practice is not one I'd recommend.

Dear patient, Firstly, I would like to apologise that you felt you had to share your dissatisfaction via NHS CHOICES. Reading through your experience, I would like to discuss this further with you. The GP's do signpost to the Pharmacist if they feel it is something they can assist with, however, if they had known you had tried several remedies previously via the Pharmacy already, then they should have absolutely been the ones to give you a call. Our Practice do yearly medication reviews not always done via the GP but sometimes via the in house Clinical Pharmacist who are qualified to do this. Dependent on what medication you are on, this is not always needing to be a patient contact but done behind the scenes. Our Practice takes feedback very seriously and we aim to work on constructive feedback to use as a learning points and perfect our processes, so if you would be happy to discuss further, please do give the Practice a call and ask for myself. Kind Regards Patient and Clinical Services Manager Worthing Medical Group

Review titled Great service...again
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Paul Williams - Posted on 03 June 2024
Not for the first time, I've had a great service. I had two issues - a mole that looked cancerous, and a debilitating hand condition. I sent photos of both to the surgery, was called back promptly by the doctor, and immediately referred to the relevant specialists.

Review titled Worst practice I’ve ever experienced
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Sarah chitty - Posted on 15 April 2024
Can’t get appointment either face to face or via phone they triage you without speaking to you and are willing to leave you breathless for a week. So their option are to sent you to A&E so now I have to wait there for a couple of hours just to speak with a doctor

Review titled Terrible Practice
by Anonymous - Posted on 29 April 2024
My experience with Worthing medical group over the last few weeks has been truly awful. To start with they are incapable of acknowledging they have an issue with their phone lines. Their calls fail to come through to mobile number, only leaving a text message say they have tried to reach you. When given alternative number to reach you on they are unable to carry out this simple task. I have had to update my alternate contact number both in person and over the phone. Both times I’ve done so they have not logged it properly as they still and old, inactive number they are trying to reach me on. This has lead to my issue being unresolved for week due to the clinics inability to contact me. When confronted about this I was met with an unapologetic and abrasive attitude. This has cause me much stress, in turn worsening my condition through repeated severe physical panic attacks.

Dear Patient, I am extremely sorry for the dissatisfaction caused over the past week. You are absolutely correct in saying this is a simple task that should have resulted in a quick change of number causing no delays. I would like to look into this further by listening to the calls and feeding back to the relevant staff, as this may be a training issue. If you would kindly email in your details or give the practice a call and ask for myself, I will happily discuss this further with you. I once again apologise for the delays caused in you receiving treatment and I hope you have now managed to speak to a clinician. Kind Regards Patient and Clinical Services Manager Worthing Medical Group

Review titled Better experience today
Rated 3 stars out of 5

I thought I would update my review. I phoned in again yesterday morning, had a call back and got an appointment to see a nurse practitioner. She was really lovely. I received all the advice and medication required and will hopefully be feeling better soon.

Good Morning, Thank you for sending in both sets of comments. I apologise that you were unable to obtain an appointment on your first attempt on Monday. We sadly had 3 Dr's off sick, which is very rare, but unfortunately meant that we were only able to deal with ongoing complex urgent matters on that day, as much as we dislike doing this. We ensure that the phone message also states this to avoid patients waiting unnecessarily on the phone, leading to disappointment if we are unable to help, and also to offer alternatives ways to seek help, such as 111, the pharmacy or the urgent treatment centre via A+E for something more urgent. We only advise A+E to patients if they feel it is an emergency and they are unable to wait until our next working day. I am glad that the following day our capacity was back to normal and you were able to get the appointment that you required. I really do appreciate you updating your review as constructive and positive feedback is extremely important to us. Kind Regards Patient and Clinical Services Manager Worthing Medical Group

Review titled Unable to get past the receptionist
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Debra Stevens - Posted on 25 March 2024
I phoned at 8 this morning and was 26 in the queue. I wanted to see or talk to a GP or Nurse Practitioner. After 30 minutes I was told too many doctors off sick to deal with any patients today and to go to A and E or 111. Without the ability to book a call back until 8 on the day this just seems like making the A and E situation worse. Not good enough for the largest surgery in Worthing.
