I’ve always had amazing help here. Last week, one particular doctor, helped me so much. Their gut instinct was spot on, and they helped me beyond measure. They went above and beyond for me. I can’t thank them enough

I would like to thank today's receptionist and the Triage Doctor that rung me.. I had terrible mobile connection problem today. Your staff were very patient and in the end phoned my sister with a worrying issue re y elderly mum. Thank you for not giving up. I understand how busy GP practices are! Your all doing a grand job.

  4. Review titled Excellent treatment and review

Rated 5 stars out of 5

My son was seen by a lovely paramedic the same day as we sent a e consult. She was fab and really put my son at ease who can be a bit nervous regarding being checked over and having things done to him. She also gained further review from a doctor and he was very thorough and made necessary referrals immediately. My son has since received the two tests required from the referrals within 48hours and two days on from initial consultation we received a text message from another doctor at the surgery informing us these tests were normal but reassuringly that they would still like to review my son further after his final outstanding test is completed even if this test comes back normal. We have felt really reassured and that our son is getting properly looked after and that all 3 practitioners we have had contact with have ensured we are constantly aware of what is happening and we are really impressed that we were contacted very quickly with the results and reassured accordingly without having to chase the surgery ourselves.Very thankful to the surgery for all their care.

  5. Review titled Awful

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Joyce Waters - Posted on 24 June 2024

Hippocratic Oath:- To care for patients Gone are the days when this did mean something to doctors. Days gone by when a doctor was worth his weight in gold no appointments just go the surgery and wait your turn, when the doctor saw everyone there and made a house call when you weren't well enough to attend the surgery. These doctors were usually a one man band and didn't have receptionist! Before I moved to this area I attended a surgery where you did have to make an appointment and the wait for that was never excessive and you could always see the doctor you were appointed to when signing up to that practice. At Westcourt it has now gone from a straightforward booking to see a doctor to being triaged by someone presumably to say whether it would be in order to have an appointment with a doctor! I went into the surgery a few weeks ago to see if I could book an appointment, the receptionist explained I would need a triage appointment first, but that they were fully booked for that day and I couldn't make an appointment for one as it had to be done on a daily basis. On two occasions I have rung at 8 am on the dot only to be told the surgery was now closed, and after putting the phone down have re-dialled and in a matter of seconds I was on one occasion 22 in the queque and the other 30 how did that happen so quickly? On both occasions I decided not to stay on the line as I guessed all triage appointments would have been swallowed up by then. I rang Friday 21st June being I was 11th in the queue I waited, when the receptionist answered she asked me questions something a non medical person shouldn't be doing as these things are personal! Any way she booked me in and I was phoned that morning on my mobile (having in the past asked reception to make sure I was contacted on the house phone as mobile reception wasn't good) the phone rang precisely twice not giving me time to actually answer so I was left a voicemail more or less saying I wouldn't get a call back. I immediately rang the surgery and when I got to speak to receptionist and explained she told me no I wouldn't get a call back as the list was full for that day I pointed out I was on that list but hadn't actually been spoken to so she said if I was concerned I should go to A and E which I firmly told her was going to happen hospital's must be being pushed to the limit! I questioned why has this triage business happened, her reply was that it cuts time in waiting for an appointment from 1-2 months down to 2-3 weeks. Which if you work it out and you can't get a triage appointment for weeks on end it probably works out the same. I received a text last year to book an appointment for the nurse this was in August and the appointment was made 6th October, reminder text on the 5th cancelled on the 6th, rebooked 22nd December arrived at surgery to be informed I had been sent a text cancelling but on looking at my phone cancelled 20 mins before my appointment so hadn't seen the text.

Dear Ms Waters, We are sorry to hear of your experience contacting the surgery and would like to look into this further. Could we please ask that you contact Clair Hook, Patient Services Team Lead, who will be only to happy to look into this for you and give a more personal response. As there is so much demand for general practice services, we have to limit the demand we can deal with safely for our patients and clinicians. Therefore, once we have reached capacity, we revert to signposting patients to other external services that can offer assistance. Much like your concern with hospital's being pushed to the limit, the same has happened with general practice and utilising a triage system which is run by doctors, allows for more patients to be consulted, and often resulting in patients not having to attend the surgery allowing for our doctors to consult with patients that do need to be seen face to face. As I am sure you can appreciate, we only have so many doctors and them doctors can only see a safe amount of patients per day as they would not practice unsafely. As mentioned above please do contact us directly and we can address your concerns. We look forward to hearing from you. Regards Westcourt Medical Centre

  6. Review titled Very disappointed

Rated 1 star out of 5

    by N Carpenter - Posted on 06 June 2024

I’m very disappointed to be leaving Westcourt Medical Centre as many of the staff and the doctors are great. However, despite various conversations with receptionists, one with a Doctor who promised to do something and after leaving messages for the patient services team leader to call me back, it has proved impossible to make an arrangement for my profoundly deaf partner to contact the practice independently. All he needs is an email address that can be used or a number to which he can send a text requesting an appointment or other assistance. The e-consult services isn’t suitable for him. Regrettably, it seems that deaf people’s needs can’t be met by the practice. It is also notable that despite having been with a practice for three years, no arrangements have ever been made for a BSL interpreter for my partner. Fortunately, having spoken with an alternative practice who can make “reasonable adjustment”, we have been able to register elsewhere

  7. Review titled Never ever let me down

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Mrs Read - Posted on 28 May 2024

The surgery has continuously supported myself and my family. I recently was seen the following morning at 9.00am after an econsult the day before and was referred the same day They have consistently helped me and always treated me quickly and professionally at every opportunity after having several health issues over the last couple of years often picking up the pieces where the hospital fails. They are under huge pressure but still give 100%

  8. Review titled Excellent surgery

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Julie Hockley - Posted on 23 August 2024

I would just like to say what a great surgery, I have felt very supported by all staff they are professional whilst still being friendly, respectful and empathetic. The ring back and econsults work very well and are answered in a timely manner. I can’t thank the surgery enough in particular the GP that has been treating, she has made me feel that I matter and has helped me with every step and concern that I’ve had this year. The reception team go over and above every time I have spoken with them, I would definitely recommend Westcourt as an excellent surgery. Thank you so very much.

  9. Review titled Do the Dr’s exist at Westcourt?

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 13 March 2024

This surgery simply does not care anymore. Asked to speak to someone as had abnormal bleeding, told to go to chemist as there might be a cream for that, when pressed told the list said it was not something they would deal with until I tried the chemist ? . Received a letter to book an appointment with nurse then told no sorry we only go a month ahead we will add you to the waiting list, received a text they will no longer prescribe certain medication basically buy your own to ave NHS resources. I could go on, I have been with this practice since it opened and I am so disheartened with the decline in service. You can not see a GP even a routine appointment is 3 months wait. There is no care anymore from this surgery they don’t care if you’re ill, just go to the chemist, ring 111 or A and E. That’s all you hear or even better put in an e-consult then we don’t even have to talk to you! Not every old person has access to e-consult. Sorry for the long review but I can not express enough how disengaged this surgery is with patients anymore, they don’t want to see you, they don’t want to talk to you and don’t hold your breath getting an appointment. I will be changing surgeries after 2 months of hell and surprise I still not spoke to a Dr …..

Dear Anonymous, I am sorry to hear this is how you are feeling about the surgery and that you feel the surgery does not care anymore. This is not true and our staff work very hard to assist all our patients so am saddened to read this. I am sure you are aware, demand is exceeding the capacity for all general practice surgeries. To ensure we continue to practice safely, we listened to our patient concerns, reviewed many systems across the south coast, consulted with our clinicians and Patient Participation Group and changed how to access our appointment system in January 2024. We have had many positive responses and are managing to ensure we are practicing safely for both our patients and staff. Our clinicians and staff are working to their full capacity and work very hard. Your claim to waiting 3 months for a GP routine appointment is historic and one of the reasons we reviewed our appointment system and implemented a new one. Our e-consult service is another positive service for patients to access the service and also signposts to the most appropriate services for the symptoms given. It also gives a lot of detail to the clinician reviewing the document from the information given by the patient. Whilst, in contact with you via this review, our new appointment process is for all patient contact requiring clinical advice, to be assessed by a signposting toolkit which is maintained by one of our GP Partners. This may direct patients to other services who are more appropriate to help with the symptoms given such as a pharmacy, remote GP telephone services, physio, mental health advisors, NHS111 or A&E. When our clinicians are at capacity, patients are directed to other services to assist them. As you mention that the surgery is disengaged with its patients, maybe you would like to join our Patient Participation Group to help with giving ideas on how the practice can best operate from a patient’s perspective. This information can be obtained from reception if you are unable to access our website. As you have not given your name, I am unable to look into this for you and respond on a personal basis to the content of your review. I would be happy to do this if you could contact the surgery and speak with our Patient Services Team Lead, Clair Hook, who will start the process on your behalf, so that we can address them and make improvements where necessary. We understand that it can be frustrating when trying to access medical care, but please know that we are doing our best to provide excellent care to all our patients. Your health and well-being are our top priorities, and we want to make sure that you receive the care and attention you deserve whether that is via our service or that of other services available to assist us. Thank you for your understanding. Kind regards Ann Flint Practice Manager

  10. Review titled Excellant practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 20 March 2024

I phoned the surgery ,when the phone lines opened and 8am.i was 11th in the queue, requested the ring back service, had a call back half and hour later, explained why I was phoning ,I was triaged and advised that I would receive a call back sometime through the day . At 10 45 I received a call from one of their doctors, who listened intently to my issues and asked very appropriate questions to try and discover how they could help me. The doctor then decided it would be advisable to visit the surgery, so I went down within the hour . Again the doctor was very caring, very attentive and very thorough. I just want to say how wonderful all the staff concerned, from the initial phone call, the receptionist, triage, and of course the doctor . I came away feeling that they had completely cared for me ,and did all they could do on the day . I joined this practice only last week completely dissatisfied with my previous place and I am so very pleased I did . Please westcourt keep up the excellant caring work ,thank you all .
