Review titled Disappointed
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Chris - Posted on 07 August 2024
I called into the surgery on Monday late morning to see if I could get an urgent appointment for later that day for an ear infection. This followed my call to Emergency Oncology at LRI that morning listing my symptoms and was told by them to arrange a GP appointment for that day or Tuesday morning latest. The Uppingham receptionist could only offer an appointment on Wednesday and advised to try Ashdale Pharmacy next door to see if they could prescribe antibiotics. I am a stage 4 cancer patient undergoing chemotherapy and susceptible to infections which, if not dealt with swiftly can lead to sepsis. I am categorised as a Gold Standard framework patient which doesn’t appear to prioritise any appointments I may need. Ashdale Pharmacy couldn’t help so I ended up going to Corby Walk-in centre where I was seen fairly quickly and prescribed the antibiotics I needed.

Thank you for taking the time to feedback to us regarding your recent experience with the practice. The Operations Manager has since spoken with you and we are grateful for your time in explaining in more detail the issues you experienced. Our 'trigger' for identifying patients who have additional health needs failed and this has given us the opportunity to review our system and process. We have raised this as an internal learning event so that we may formalise this and implement the necessary changes required. We are very sorry that you have been disappointed with our services and we will endeavour to learn from your feedback.

Review titled How to get a smear?
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 14 August 2024
I have been trying to book my smear test for the last 2 months. Every time I call I’m told they only do them on Saturday mornings and are fully booked. Call back in 2 weeks when new clinics will be added. When I call back same thing unless I want to travel to somerby. Why are practice nurses not doing smears. All other surgery’s offer appointments at various times with a PN. Not just a Saturday morning which is now back logged. Let’s hope I don’t have any medical problems when I do finally get my smear or it’ll probably be too late.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback following your recent contact with the practice. We are very sorry to read that you have had trouble with booking an appointment for your cervical screening test. We offer rotating clinics on Saturdays across all practice sites in Rutland and a number of appointments in the week for patients who are unable to travel to these other sites. We are very sorry that you were not offered an alternative appointment in the week at the practice. This has been discussed anonymously at our management team meetings and have reviewed how our team book these appointments to ensure that patients are offered as many options as possible. We hope that you have been able to book a suitable and convenient appointment since your feedback.

Review titled Exceptional practice
Rated 5 stars out of 5

Response to my online request via the surgery website was the same day ( I expected 48 hours ), with a telephone appointment a few days later. The clinician I consulted was thorough, kind and caring, and arranged blood tests. The nurse was also delightful, and kind, putting me at ease. Results were communicated to me swiftly with a follow up plan and very helpful advice. A really positive experience from an efficient, caring practice. We are so fortunate to be registered at Uppingham Surgery; my good experience is the same as others in my family.

While visiting for my annual review my unwellness was quietly, kindly & professionally identified & I was referred to an appropriate practitioner whose attitude & practice was empathic, caring, inclusive & giving detailed explanion of treatment. Totality of experience is worthy of high grade recognition & general recommendation.

Review titled Poor service
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 05 March 2024
New born granddaughter 6 days old needed a gp appointment but as she had not been registered was not able to be seen - despite her registration had been sent the week before - following week same response - she is not registered - when questioned as to why receptionist said there was a queue for registering and it was not her ‘job’ to do this - so unhelpful- particularly as the mum was so distraught - really bad service not satisfactory at all - when asked to speak to the practice manager was told they were in ‘meetings’ all day and to email the complaint - this is really unacceptable.

Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding a recent experience at the practice. There is always more than one manager on duty and we apologise that you were not given the opportunity to speak with our Operations Manager or Patient Services Team Leader who are here to help our patients. Despite not being registered we would have offered an appointment if one had been available as we could have prioritised the registration based on the urgency. As the grandparent it is unclear if you have parental responsibility or the mother of the child does. Should the mother wish to complain and allow us to conduct a thorough investigation, this can be raised via our practice website. We apologise for the distress this has caused.

Review titled Pregnant and not being taken seriously
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Hollie - Posted on 12 March 2024
I suffer with recurring UTI's and sent a sample in in December 2023, in which everything came back as normal no further action was taken by the doctors. 6th February I found out I was pregnant and still had these symptoms, so I went back to the doctors on 14th February and gave another water sample. The doctor I saw promised me he would get back in touch the next day with results, and to discuss next steps if everything came back normal again. Monday 19th February my result came back, normal. No further action. However, I was still experiencing these symptoms, I called the doctors to follow up the call back I should've received off the doctor I saw on 14th as he promised, only to be told, he will call back, never to receive a call. Water infections in pregnancy is proven to cause low birth weight babies, premature births, even miscarriage and still birth. It is a serious matter which should be taken as such. I spoke to another doctor on 6th March and expressed my anxiety around continuing symptoms and being pregnant, she advised my symptoms clearly indicated infection and results from sample tests aren't always specific, I should be on antibiotics, she also confirmed the previous doctor had a task outstanding with me for 3 weeks. 3 weeks. I also spoke to my midwife who confirmed it was a medical issue and to keep following up with doctors. I received a phone call on 11th March advising my water sample came back clear and no further action and this should be reassuring? How is that reassuring when I am still experiencing the same symptoms? The next morning, 12th March, I received a text at 8:34 explaining I did in fact have a water infection, I replied 3 minutes later. On the NHS app I can see that on the notes there is information about the antibiotics I have to take. I called another 3 times on 12th March as I didn't hear back from my message I sent at 08:37, only to be told time and time again the doctor will get back in touch. Its now nearing 4pm and I explained how I'd like to start the treatment today to alleviate any further risk to my pregnancy, I am waiting to hear back 7 hours later. I appreciate there are other patients to be seen but I have not been taken seriously for weeks, forgotten about and pushed under the rug and I feel disappointed that I have been made to wait all day when I am already suffering huge anxiety, first trimester symptoms and on top of all of that UTI symptoms too. Its disgraceful and quite frankly disgusting practice from the NHS.

Review titled Efficient and effective
Rated 5 stars out of 5

I applied for a GP phone call and received a text giving the time frame for the call. The GP phoned within that exact time frame and gave me a same day appointment. The appointment was efficient and thorough and an x-ray was authorised. I phoned the x-ray department the next day and was offered an appointment for that very same day - impressive, and thank you.

I had an ECG today. The nurse who completed it was delightful. She was friendly and pleasant. She also noticed that I was due a blood test so she did this as well, so that I didn’t need to make another appointment. Thank you

Review titled Unable to book online appointment
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 01 September 2023
Practice texted me to arrange a blood test. I could find no way to do this. This is the second time I have had the same problem. The previous response from the practice told me all the links were working - they're not on my tablet. This should be the simplest task, so please either send a link in the txt or detailed instructions

Thank you for your feedback. We send a high number of appointment links to our patients to book an appointment for some services at a time convenient time with them with a significantly high success rate. NHS England is wanting Primary Care to use digital platforms to enable easier access for patients and allow staff to deal with the patients on the telephone that need priority care. Regrettably we are unable to help with user operability or equipment a patient uses. We recommend patients use the NHS App which has an easy user friendly interface for ordering repeat prescriptions and checking their medical records. It is disappointing to read you have a left a one star review based on very small part of the whole service we deliver to our patients.
