  1. Review titled You only have 10 minutes

Rated 1 star out of 5

I went with my daughter who had three problems: a lump in her neck, a nasty rash and some strange big and painful ulcers in her mouth. After waiting for 20 minutes in spite nobody was being seen to we were called. The doctor checked the lump (he had to google it, by the way), checked the rash and when we were going to tell her about the ulcers, she told us we needed to leave and if we had another healthy issue we had to get another appointment. One week later, we are still trying to get one and she is still in pain. Where the humanity has gone?

Dear Patient, I am sorry that you are unhappy with the service you received at your recent visit to the practice. You mention that whilst you waited for the appointment no one else was being seen. Please be aware that whilst there may not always be patients in the waiting room, our clinics now support a much higher proportion of telephone and e-consultation appointments, meaning that although there may not be as many patients physically in the waiting room, our doctors are in contact with more patients each day than they were prior to the covid-19 pandemic. As you have left no further information I am unable to contact you or look into your concerns. If you would like to make a formal complaint please contact me at the practice and I can then look into your concerns. You mention in your comment that you are trying to get an appointment at present. Please be aware that we offer an urgent on the day triage service, which patients can book into for a telephone triage appointment with a GP. You can also complete an E-consultation via the practice website, which will be seen and assessed by a clinician within two working days of receipt. The clinician will then assess whether you need to be seen for an appointment. You can find details of this service on the practice website and Facebook account.

Asked for wound dressing, which could have been done by a nurse,, Told me nurse was busy , come back next week . Wound is infected and very painful. My visit was wasted, and costly in taxi fares.

Dear Mr Hamilton. Thank you for taking the time to leave this feedback of our service. Dressings require longer appointment times and cannot be undertaken by all members of our nursing team. Due to the length of the required appointment, dressings needed to treat a wound and the need for an appropriately qualified nurse on site this is not something we are able to offer as a walk in service. I am sorry if this was not explained to you when you visited the practice. There is a wound clinic service offered by an external provider which is run from our practice building, but this is only available on certain days of the week. We would advise that if you require a wound dressing that you contact the practice over the phone or via online consultation so that you can be booked in with an appropriate member of staff at a time when we have a long enough appointment available. If you would like to speak to me about this matter or would like to make a formal complaint, please contact me at the surgery Kind Regards Mrs Freya Keith Deputy Practice Manager Ireland Wood and Horsforth Medical Practice

  4. Review titled Tremendous help

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I have had a leg ulcer and vascular leg problems since January to now. The care provided by the nursing team to deal with these has been exemplary in every way. They have persevered and my ulcer is now in the final stages of healing. Thank you to them. The administrative staff in the background have been excellent in their handling of multile appointments and always done this in with great efficiency. I cannot speak highly enough of this practice. Superb in every way.

  5. Review titled Unacceptable

Rated 1 star out of 5

Told to call regarding test results now as they don’t call you. Tried calling today and started off in position 3 , 20 minutes went by and in position 2 , 45 minutes later and it says there is no operator in the queue at this time and just cut off . It’s just completely unacceptable , I’ve not experienced a doctors surgery like this when it comes to answering phones . It must get muted and answered inbetween admin but for it to just be cut off with no regard for anyone that’s calling . Wonder if they would like it if it happened to them .

Thank you for taking the time to leave this review. I am sorry that you have experienced difficulties contacting the practice by telephone. We are extremely busy and the telephone lines are very busy particularly in the mornings. I can assure you that telephone calls are never muted and that the phone rings from the minute the lines open until they close at 6pm. Unfortunately due to staff sickness we have not had the expected number of staff available to answer the phone as we would under normal circumstances which is adding to waiting times. We have reported phone issues to our supplier who have looked into any problems for us and are working to resolve any potential technical difficulties which are completely outside of the practice's control. I would like to reassure you that our team work extremely hard and would never cut patients off on the phone. I'd also like to state that our team cares deeply about our patients, and I am sorry that you do not feel this way about our dedicated staff. As we are aware that the phone lines are under a lot of pressure, we do have other methods patients can use to get in touch including use of online services or accessing the online consultation function on our website which allows you to contact the practice without having to pick up the phone. If you would like to use this function, please visit our website and navigate to online consultations via the homepage. As you have left this review anonymously I am unable to contact you and clarify the details of this call. If you would like to contact me (via the practice website) and provide this information I would be more than happy to pass this onto the telephone provider to investigate. I do hope that in future you will find our service more satisfactory. If you remain unhappy with the service you are of course free to register with another practice in the area. Kind Regards Mrs Freya Keith Deputy Practice Manager Ireland Wood and Horsforth Medical Practice
