Review titled Poor service
Rated 1 star out of 5

Having joined the mad rush to phone the surgery at 8am for an appointment and queuing for a while I finally get to speak to a receptionist who has a very bored and irritated tone with me (but this would not be acceptable in return) I then turn up to my appointment on time to sit waiting for 35 minutes before I approach reception to ask if I’ve somehow been missed only to be told the GP is running an hour late. I don’t visit the doctors often but every time I do they keep you waiting for the at least 45 mins to an hour. I am always told this is due to an ‘emergency’. Surely anything classed as an emergency should be referred to A&E not the local GP surgery?! It is unfair to keep people waiting uninformed for so long especially if they work as many employers are not sympathetic. Very poor service.

Dear Patient Thank you for your review. The Practice is pleased you were able to have an appointment the day you requested. Unfortunately any emergency situation that presents itself to a Clinician or the Practice is a priority, and not one we would redirect to another health care provider without triaging and assessing first. I can only apologise you were not informed the clinic was running late, our reception team at both sites are very busy, however we have spoken to our reception team to request when possible they update the waiting room with any delays as soon as they can. Kind Regards Management

Review titled Great doctor poor surgery

I agree with most reviews. Holbrook surgery is becoming unfit for purpose. Don't think it's so much the surgeries fault as it's nationwide and that can only come from the government. They think they're taking some pressure off the NHS by not having appointment's like they used to. You have so many people phoning at 8am and 1pm it's just not possible to fit every one in. What tends to happen is most elderly people give up and that causes more problems for the NHS. I attended surgery today because they had problems phoning yesterday. The doctor was very efficient and great. Booking a simple blood test was told about 3 weeks at Holbrook or 1 week at shotley. The surgery only had 2 people in it and not a lot of activity. Is the problem short staffing and nearly everything has to go to shotley

Review titled Plunged into the dark ages!

Shotley and Holbrook surgery seem to have left the modern world. I feel so sorry for the staff who are trying to defend the indefensible. This is a GP surgery that I’ve been a patient of for 30years, it was modern and forward thinking, online booking was easy, appointments were available, staff always helpful, the GPs consistent and excellent. Concerns started when prescriptions kept going to the wrong location, despite always asking on the online booking for Holbrook, inevitably they went to Shotley. Then I needed to see a doctor as a recent new HRT prescription was making me feel poorly. I work full time, calling at 8am to sit in the phone for 20minutes then be told no appointments, call back at 1pm and for the same to happen… day 2 repeat, when asking why appointment couldn’t be made in the afternoon they just said no, call back at 1pm, I explained I was working and had a meeting so that wouldn’t be possible. I asked if I could just get a different HRT prescription, but told no not without talking to GP. I can’t use the online form to contact as doesn’t seem to work for this GP surgery from the NHS App. I’ve recently seen over 30 comments in a local community Facebook comment about how poor the service at Holbrook and Shotley surgery is. Covid cannot be an excuse for such poor service anymore, the approach does not live up to NHS values and certainly does not put patients first. It also is so inefficient, staff are no doubt getting lots of frustrated and angry patients to deal with which is also unnecessary, it’s a surgery that is being very poorly run and I feel this needs to be investigated urgently.
