  1. Review titled Very good practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Lynn W - Posted on 09 August 2024

The Grange Surgery are very good most of the time. Seeing the NHS is overstretched I never expect perfection. However the GP's, nurses and other staff work hard and I have no complaints. There is sometimes a wait after the appointment time, but I expect that, especially if the previous patient needs longer with the GP. Sometimes the waiting room is full, other times it's empty. This tells me when it's full that a GP may need a bit longer with a patient with moe pressing health issues. An empty waiting room shows that the GP's are running on time. Overall, no complaints from me.

  2. Review titled Treat you like a nuisance

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 21 August 2024

This surgery is so poorly run. The receptionists are not sufficiently trained and answer the phone on the defence from the start - as if needing an appointment is such a massive inconvenience. I called with a fairly urgent issue following surgery and was offered an appointment with my Doctor in 6 weeks. I said I really needed to speak to someone before then and a phone call was fine. The receptionist told me I would be put on a call list for today. I never once used the word 'emergency' or 'urgent'. When the Doctor called me she was extremely rude, abrupt & dismissive from the off and before I could even begin to explain the issue I am having, she scolded me for taking up an 'emergency' appointment and told me off. I told her it wasn't my fault the reception staff weren't trained properly to which she told me they were and that this wasn't an emergency (I had not yet even began to tell her the reason for my call). It is so sad that I have to go any pay for private treatment because my own GP can't even have a reasonable conversation. My husband and I will be moving to Swan Surgery which has a higher CQC inspection rating. There is no excuse for refusing care before patients even begin to explain what the problem is and the recepetion team need to be trained better.

  3. Review titled Very helpful staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Erika - Posted on 15 August 2024

I’ve needed to arrange a few appointments and prescriptions recently which haven’t been straightforward. The reception staff have been so helpful and supportive. They made me feel like it was no problem and really helped with problem solving. The medical staff are extremely caring and understanding. The Sister has suppported me with compassion for a long time - she is excellent.

  6. Review titled Unexceptable

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 15 July 2024

After being unwell for three weeks and unable to work I needed to see a doctor. I phoned at 8.00am and was told a doctor would call back. Five hours later I had still not had a call. I drove to the surgery and a nurse spoke to me. She was most patronising to me. Eventually at 2.30 I had a call from a doctor. I will not return here. The surgery is a ghost town. No patients in the waiting room and no doctors. I will just go to the hospital instead. What is frightening is what if I had had earache or worse, sepsis. Waiting for five hours for a call back is unexceptible.

Thank you for your feedback however I understand the duty doctor did speak with you that day and gave you some reassuring advice. I am sorry you felt the nurse was patronising, I will investigate this further. I am confused as to how we have let you down in any way. There was a clinical meeting taking place with all doctors, nurses and management team when you came in to the surgery over a lunchtime. We always have a clinician available for emergencies. If you wish to discuss your treatment further please do not hesitate to contact me.

  8. Review titled Long waiting time

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 13 March 2024

Appointment management is very poor. They are available only 3-4 weeks in advance. When I arrive on time I inevitably have to wait at least 30 more minutes before I’m seen.

Thank you for your feedback. For continuity of care our doctors like to see their registered patients which can lead to a delay in appointments. However please be assured that if you had an urgent problem we would see you immediately.

  9. Review titled Unsatisfactory

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 07 February 2024

Dear The Grange, Almost every time I come into the practice there is a drama. Unable to find results, mismanaged and wasted appointments. Today in particular I had two appointments, both unsatisfactory. Firstly I came in for a pelvic exam. I was questioned why I felt it relevant to come in and after explaining myself was told I shouldn’t be having one, all of which did feel rather confrontational. I have no issue if the doctor feels this isn’t necessary for me, however I should’ve been told this prior to making my way to the surgery. I was unimpressed to be told I should instead have a preliminary at home self sexual health test. While I understand this is an important test and am happy to do it, it isn’t particularly applicable to me and have not come in with regards to any infections, of which I believe I would know if they were a possibility. My appointment was wasted, as if this is indeed necessary beforehand, I should’ve been informed to do so anytime in the near 3 months after booking my appointment to now. Regarding my recent health issue I saw a private GP, of which both doctors I have seen have mentioned to me. The one only asked as wanted to know, why which is very fair and I understand this, however the other didn’t try to hide that they were rather unimpressed in their tone ‘oh it was a private doctor’. I fully support the NHS and did not make the appointment in spite but simply as the wait times are too long, so didn’t appreciate the judgment. Unfortunately, due to the wait times of the surgery, I went elsewhere to be referred for my tests. I knew from other patients experience at the surgery that wouldn’t be seen for a long while for my less serious condition, if had the chance at all. After my referral I also had a nightmare actually landing an appointment, having to constantly chase and one of which was miss booked as a meeting rather than actual blood test. Regarding my second appointment today, I was informed that I have to take my bloods to the hospital myself. I was told ‘I was informed’, in fact I was not and it would’ve been very helpful to know this prior. I was made to feel this was my mistake when the surgery in fact had not communicated this to me. Overall I am slighlty disappointed with the surgery in all the years I have been, I feel every time I go it is 50/50 whether it will be a successful experience. All this is to say I am nevertheless grateful to the surgery for the help it has indeed provided me, and I am also very grateful to the members of team who have been very supportive and lovely, you all provide a very valuable service. However I feel there needs to be more organisation and consideration, many things are needlessly dragged out and I feel the surgery does create problems for itself, which in a very difficult time for the NHS, makes life unnecessarily harder for all. I am sorry to leave a negative review, please note I do appreciate the service the surgery provides. Thank you.

  10. Review titled Very reassuring.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Kieran Thomas - Posted on 15 June 2023

I have always found The Grange to be extremely helpful (text reminders of appointments) and welcoming. There is always a very reassuring calm and warmth about the place and the staff, medical and support, are unfailingly friendly. It all goes a long way to removing inevitable anxiety around one's health. I would very happily recommend it to anybody and am so grateful for all they have done for me.
