Review titled Very happy with this practice
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Isabella - Posted on 27 March 2024
It’s taken me awhile to get a gp surgery that actually want to help me. I’ve had several strokes and felt I was being let down by a field that are supposed to give help and support then I move to calverton and found just that surgery. It’s hard for me to Express, my condition at times and to be understood and I know that this Surgery is going through so much with the NHS being strapped but they always seems to do their best to help me out. I’m so far away from the best medical doctors in the world the usa until I found this surgery and I was worried at first because my last surgery told me I was a complicated case due to my illnesses and past strokes but the doctors here seem to be very knowledgeable, as my daughter is a professor of medicine and I do speak to her every now and then about my conditions, but I feel that I can get just about as much help here as I can with her as an ex hospice nurse myself I do feel and understand the stress of dealing with patients. It isn’t always easy, but I now feel secure in my healthcare with these doctors at Calverton practice. I’m still waiting on pain management for over a year now but I know that there is a backlog from the pandemic still going on. I myself at times have been told to call 111 because I couldn’t get an appointment that day, but I don’t have a problem with that. I just want to say again, thank you for taking the time to understand me and take care of me.

Needed help with my husband’s medication following recent eye operation and as usual the Pharmacy Department came up trumps. They never fail to help and support us. The service deserves a “Gold Star”. Thank you once again.

Review titled Shocked how this practice works
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 13 September 2023
Today I was shocked when I rang to make an appointment to see my doctor. I was told I would have to wait four weeks just for a consultation. I asked what if I felt I had some serious issues and concerns , absolutely shocking the response I was given , call 111 or walk in to a walk in center. After we the call ended I just sat in amazement it’s like them just pushing me back out the door I came in. I honestly don’t know which way to go forward now .it upsets me having to write this review as I know how pushed the Nhs is at the moment but to me I feel this is not acceptable.

I am sorry that you were disappointed with our service. We offer a daily triage system were patients can call and speak to the GP on the day. If the GP feels that the patient needs to be seen, they will then be bought down to the Practice. Unfortunately, the GP on triage has a set amount of appointments to ensure safe care and once these appointments have been allocated, we advise patients to call 111 or visit the walk in centre if they feel their issue is urgent. We do offer pre-bookable appointments and the wait time for these will vary accordingly to whether you are happy to see any GP or if you chose to wait to see a particular GP. Please feel free to call the Practice and ask to speak to me so that we can discuss this further. Bridget Hall Practice Manager

Review titled Really caring practice
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Lynn Sheppard - Posted on 22 May 2023
On Friday 19 th of May 2023, I phoned up for an emergency appointment, due to a deteriorating back condition, the receptionist I spoke to was lovely and very empathetic , I can not thank her enough for her kindness and professionalism, as an ex nurse myself I can sympathise with what the surgery and the staff that work on it are going through. I see so much negativity from people moaning about different things. Anyway will you please pass onto the receptionist my upmost thanks. I did get to see the dr, who again was very professional and empathetic in what I was experiencing with my back. After examining me and finding reduced power and numbness in my legs, she proceeded to ring the spinal unit for advice. I ended up going to be assessed at the QMC, if it wasn’t for her quick thinking and actions I might not have been walking today. I’m now waiting for an urgent MRI and under the care of the spinal team, I am walking again and didn’t require an urgent operation. Please again will you pass on my gratitude to the dr who saw me it’s a pity I can’t mention their names. Thankyou both so much for you’re quick thinking, empathy and professionalism.

Dear Mrs Sheppard Thank you for taking the time to write this review and for thanking the staff concerned. I have passed your comments to all of our reception team but specifically to Alison who initially dealt with your call and also to Dr Wight who triaged your call and to Dr Fleming who you saw on that day. We are pleased to hear that you are walking again and hope that the Spinal Team can help to resolve your problems. B Hall Practice Manager

Only bean with this surgery for a short time the people who have access to this practice are so lucky receptionist that look at you and deal with in a way that relaxing the doctors take time and listen I know they really care I don’t know how to thank this practice maybe the should teach others being general practice doctor is harder than a specialist they have to diagnose everything so if your appointment is running a little late that’s because they take the time to give you there care the more you support the practice the better

Dear Mr Costin Please accept my apologies, I felt that I had responded to your review and clearly remember putting a copy of your comments into our staff room for everyone to see. You taking the time to write the review is a very big thank you to us as it helps us provide evidence to external bodies that we are providing a good service to our patients. We are actually a teaching practice to both doctors who wish to become GPs and also for medical students who we try and promote primary care too. Thank you again for your support - it is very much appreciated. B Hall Practice Manager

Review titled Great practice

by Lucy G - Posted on 20 January 2023
I have been a patient at this practice alongside my children for several years. I have always been offered an appointment very promptly. Staff are extremely efficient and responded immediately when I emailed with a medication query. I am not sure how the practice is managing to maintain such high standards within a struggling NHS, but it is very impressive.

Review titled Awful
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Amy - Posted on 18 December 2022
Trying to discuss an ongoing issue with a doctor is a nightmare, you can’t request a simple phone call to discuss results or next steps but are told to make an appointment which is over 4 weeks away. I thought I’d take matters into my own hands by booking a private external GP, they requested a referral letter and my medical history which I had requested for the practice to do. After weeks of chasing this I was only then told by the Calverton Practice that there is a 6 month plus waiting list for your medical records to be sent over to an external provider. I have asked for this to be sent to myself for quickness and I’m still waiting!!

Dear Amy Thank you for your comments and I am sorry you were dissatisfied with the service you received. To enable me to look into this further, please contact me via our Practice email address of nnicb-nn.calverton-practice@nhs.net. If you could provide me with dates and details of the tests that would be most helpful. Practice protocol in relation to results is that once the result is received into the Practice this is reviewed by the relevant GP. If the GP requires to see the patient again, then reception will make contact with the patient and arrange a routine, soon or urgent appointment as detailed by the GP. Unfortunately there is, at present, a backlog of requests for medical records and are currently reviewing our system in order to reduce the turn around time. Thank you for taking the time to write this review. Kind regards, B Hall Practice Manager
